Friendly staff. The hot water in the shower was fine this year so that problem has been remedied and the shower enclosure was new, as well. Our room, it was raelly good!. The staff were very attentive, for example we returned one day absolutely drenched and they offered to dry our coats with out any prompting. Very unexpected but really appreciated. Cool hotel, clean rooms, low price and very good location. This makes up for the fact that the hotel was not soundproof.

Great location, just blocks away from Times Square. It is definitely not a luxury hotel, but for the price in this location, it is a good deal. Clean and adequate.This is a great older hotel. I have stayed here before and always like it. Nothing fancy but cool art and very funky. The rooms are clean, when minus 10 outside the temperture inside is extremely cosy, the showers are hot despite other reviews and the beds are very comfortble. Also the staff are very helpful and the location is excellent, 3 blocks from the Empire State building ad another 2 blocks from Macys. Staff to fix the TV when I explained that the remote didn't work and the picture was too dark. Someone came and traded the TV and remote and it worked great for a day, then the remote didn't work anymore. Artwork around the hotel was pretty cool. Staff were pleasant and approachable.We felt like we were staying in a very hip dorm room. Liked the funky unique design. We had read on your site about the water being unpredictable. We had no problems. We liked it very much. Location is exellent, it really could not be better. Although rooms were not new it was clean and room cleaner personnell was very friedly.full of character, felt like I was in NY and not just a boring, standard hotel room that could have been anywhere in the world. There was some sort of mistake about when I was scheduled to leave and that caused a problem when I didn't leave the day they erroneously thought I would. Never heard an explanation for that; the reservation form clearly stated the proper check-in and check-out dates. The hotel is not soundproof. If you have a room towards the street you will hear the trafic and construction work. The radiotors in the rooms were making sounds as well.i think it is time to update their bedding, as it's standard motel fare now, and should be upgraded. Front desk staff could have been a little friendlier. The beds are too soft. Also, we knew that there would be no food and drink facilities in the hotel. So, it was a nice surprise to see a bar there with a little espresso machine. But, it would be better though if they can get a proper professional espresso/cappuccino machine with staf available. Very basic accomodations, but great price for the location.a little noisy....double glazing might be good. Never figured out how to get hot water from the shower. Took more than one cold shower during my stay, which diminished my enjoyment of the hotel.Lack of gym; pipes in bathroom made a lot of noise . First impressions of the rooms are not what you think they will be after 12 hours on the road, but if like us,you are out 17 hours of the day it serves its purpose.Shower was clogged. Otherewise, all was ok. Water temperature in the shower flexuated a lot. Most of the staff was friendly. One of the employees had a meltdown in front of clients.Only a minor issue was that some mornings we had to wait about 5 min to get hot water from the shower. more hot water please, shower mid day only gave me warm water.It was a bit cold in the bathroom. tv did not work well, shower was variable in water temp, heating was noisy. The temperature of shower (very-very repsodic, inside one "setup" :-) ), the position of toilette (it closely unusable). Would be good if the hotel had a bar.the water in the shower keep going form hot to cold. The address is confuse:7east 27th st , but is 27th st between 5th ave and Madison ave. Reception staff was just ok, not offering help, directions,etc.Elevators were not enough , you have to wait for a while in the mornings, pay internet service very poor , just two desks. No many nice places around the area to have dinner.I found that it was very expensive and there was significant loud noise coming from the heating radiator all night long which made sleeping and staying asleep very difficult. room not so quite due to water noise, internet access for free. Should not charge for laguge storing before/after check in/out. The only problem was the shower water would not stat at a steady temperature, I was way to hot at times.superior queen room still lack comforts of a modern hotel room eg fridge/mini bar. air conditioning was old, loud and weak. We had a very creaky bed!. heat and hot water were a little variable. cold showere 3 out of the 5 days we stayed there. not ok. and when we booked out we got a minimum discount ($40). It seemed like a normal thing to do as well so clearly we were not the only ones who froze our buns off to get clean in the mornings! I stayed at the Gershwin about 7 year ago.The website, I believe misled me and though the lobby was fixed up the room was not. it was the same.Some of the art. it was a little bit tatty, picture above bed (large feature in the room) was popping out of its frame, shower door was broken. hot water took along time to arrive - 10 to 15mins of running cold before hot arrived. poor showers and hard beds. It would have been nice with roomservice and breakfast. rooms left a lot to be desired...many problems encountered. Tiny rooms, slooooooow elevator, weird room door. the room was cold (rainy days). The rooms were very disappointing. The look (design) in general is not that bad, but it is not being taken care of (excuse my English) at all. On the first night, I had to change room, because it was right besides the elevator which was very noisy. Sometimens staff was quite unfriendly. There was no hot water in the late afternoon/evenings. This was everynight of our 5 night stay. We had been moved to another room because thefirst one was noisy and we still had no hot water. Some of the staffwere not very friendly. We liked th eoveral ambiance, quirky, original.Rooms not very comfortable, poor lighting, a bit hot, beds and pillows not comforable. As all hotels in New York it was grossly overpriced. Had to move from the first room as there was a large rusty patch in the bath and tiles were missing.
