Elmbank Hotel And Lodge
The Mount (York) YO24 1GE
Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.
The Elmbank Hotel and Lodge’s rooms each have a TV, telephone, tea/coffee-making facilities and a work area. A private bathroom in every bedroom has complimentary toiletries. The rooms are located in either the main building, lodge or courtyard to the rear of the hotel.
The elegant restaurant and separate bar reflect the hotel’s Victorian character. Many meals and beverages are made from locally sourced ingredients. There is an extensive wine list and tea and coffee can be taken in the comfortable lounge.
York’s ancient city walls can be reached in just 10 minutes’ walk, with a further 5 to 10 minutes’ walk taking guests to the historic attractions, including the spectacular York Minster. Alternatively there is a bus stop outside the hotel, and from there a bus in to town takes 3 minutes.
York Railway Station is just a 10-minute walk or few minutes by car, and the Elmbank has limited, free parking. There is also a bus stop near the hotel, with sightseeing tours going in to town. York Racecourse is a few minutes' away.

What a great place, really close to town, lovely quirky old place, extremely comfortable bed, good shower, fantastic price - we loved it!. Lovely hotel, would definitely recommend. Excellent value for money for a York hotel - will be staying here again.Well the location of the hotel was a big bonus, but the hotel itself was lovely and quaint..... Nice old-style atmosphere, good breakfast, easy to get to from station, friendly staff. All 6 guests staying in 1 room which was vwry large and comfatable. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.very comfortable and friendly staff. Unique Building, lovely attmosphere. Visting the city... Excellent!. Excellent service. Very nice hotel. Peace and quite. The room was beautiful and very good value for money being on bus route into town and walking distance. I would recommend the hotel to anyone and I'd definitely stay again at the hotel. The decoration was warm and homely. the hotel was in a convenient location with plenty of parking. a 10 minute walk into the city centre, the hotel receptionist and the room cleaning staff where all cheery and happy and very helpful a credit to the hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, the staff are friendly and the rooms are really comfortable and spacious. Polite, friendly, helpful staff; it really was within walking distance of the railway station. Very Clean and Comfortable with easy access to the city. walk about york. Very nice hotel. I enjoyed the whole experience - we had a beautiful room, very spacious and amazing value for money. I loved the stately home feel of the main hall, where we had coffee on comfortable sofas in the morning. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on food but staying the night was great and we will definitely use it again.Beautiful English Arts and craft/Art Nouveau interior.Wonderful stained glass, wrought ironwork, and unusual barrel vaulted ceiling,Very atmospheric and would happily stay there again. Staff were really friendly, welcoming and helpful, lovely ambience to the hotel, very relaxed, easy to find, and excellent value for money.Location is just 15 mins away from the railway station, 10 mins from city center. Hotel is excellent for the price we paid. nice and very clean room; staffs there are very kind to support us with our additional needs.Intimate feeling about hotel, staff helpful, excellent position for touring. Excellent food.. really nice hotel, lovely and clean. I couldn;t fault it for the price we paid. The room and decoration of the hotel. Close to the center of York. I loved the hotel. Just to our taste.the grand staircase and late bar. I liked the old world charm. Size and comfort of room. tidiness of the room. relaxed atmosphere. Interior decor was very interesting, overall the hotel had a very comfy relaxed feel. A major plus were the parking facilities.Staff very helpful and the room was excellent value for money - verycomfortable and close to York city centre. Very large room. Heating very good. Did not expect to find four poster bed in room. it was reasonably close to all the sights of york. nice quiet room.the atmosphere. A really interesting Period hotel. The amazing decor and sense of history more than made up for the slight delapidation of the plumbing and the chintsy bedroom. (blankets not duvets) Quiet night from traffic, but thin walls when neighbouring guests returned late! Staff friendly, esp. reception desk. The hotel itself is beautiful. The staff friendly, the rooms clean and good size. Close to the centre. Rooms comfortable and quiet. it was clean the staff were friendly and the room price was excellent at 38 pounds what more could you ask for. The Hotel building and 'oldy worldly' style. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very comfortable bed. The price was very cheap. Not far from the rail station.Room was comfortable and staff helpful when approached. Staff very professional and room was clean and tidy. A very small point was the shower (we were after all on the third floor) which was adequate only but it would not prevent us staying there again. anyway. Personally would like to see a disabled parking space made available as parking for the hotel is limited. Nothing. They should advertise that thye have WiFi if you bring your own computer. Room a little on the basic side - but still fantastic value. The only thing that we could suggest was the placing of the television. We found that it was two feet too high on the wall for comfortable viewing. But, this is such a small point in view of our pleasant stay. The price of breakfast was a little off putting, which we did not have.there was absolutley nothing wrong with our stay and i would recommend this hotel to anyone. Some areas looking a little tired and in need of a fresh coat of paint but nothing too distracting. No sound proof doors. Hotel should've at least put a 'no noise' sign at the lodge to caution customers for their noise levels. takes time to walk to city centre. not very good for elder people. i think it's ok for me. but my aunties felt a little bit far from city centre. The wallpaper. No, though my wife and I are fairly easy to please.Television reception was particulary poor in both rooms. only the bathroom had no window and the extractor fan was not working. a lot of building work going on during the day. cleaner could knock before trying to enter a room. the surprised price of a breakfast and lack of visible information. The hotel has clearly done a lot better than the poor blogs indicated!. continental breakfast option rather limited. Hotel history notes were free, but stopped frustratingly at 1903. I needed to know more!. Don't drink the house wine it's disgusting. The hotel was a bit shabby in places and in need of some refurbishment but it was very clean and this didn't spoil the enjoyment of the stay.Had to have the heat turned on and shower did not work properly.
