proximity to town - brill breakfast - value for money. Clean, easy, central and predictable (in a positive way!).I expected the usual IBIS service and facilities and that is what I received. Very Good. The staff were helpful. Booking in and out was effortless.The room itself was very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was excellent, it looked as if recently refurbed.Free wi-fi including in room.

The hotel location was good, just a short walk into the centre of York. WiFi coverage in room 225 was not available (kids sat in the corridor to get connected!). The reception guy, who I think was a new employee, could have been more welcoming because he made me feel that there may be a problem with my booking as he trawled through the computer without telling me what he was doing. Once past reception the whole place was very tired, carpets badly in need of clean and needed repainting although my room itself was nice and clean.. There was a lot of noise which took some time to sort out, however we did not complain ourselves, simply let the staff know when we left.Coffee machine in the dining room too slow for the breakfast rush!!. hotel staff not very customer friendly. The cooked part of the breakfast was ok not that hot. We were put on the first floor which was a smoking floor when I had specifically requested no smoking. The bath towels are small. smoking rooms when i requested all non smoking. n/a. Noise at night, I guess the fire door slammed frecuently at night.being charged a extra £20 per night for events as we were there on anniversary and not interested in horse racing which was not even on. Skirting board dirty under the dressing table and carpet soiled with coffee or tea stains and door stuck to enter the bedroomParking spaces difficult to find. The privacy, noise level of the rooms, when other guests were using the hall way it felt like they were in the same room as us!. more out of the town than i thought ,No real car parking it was half price rate when i booked 5 mouth in advance but still the same price when we arrived was wasn't happy!. quilt on the bed smelt of sick???????????. Poor choice of TV channels. Uninspired decor. Poor selection of food in restaurant.only the fact that you had to pay extra for breakfast. Very cold room. curtains tiny, would not close, had to clip together with a coat hanger but you could still see into the room from outside. Not enough milk, tea, coffee etc.Took a long time to check in. Only one towel in room for two people. Only two tea bags supplied. The amount of noise generated by cleaning staff in the morning.Shouting in the corridors. hotel said we ne never had a reservation with them when we checked in !. the noise from creaky floorboards from floor above and noise from corridors of doors slamming and noisy guests due to what seems a complete lack of sound proofing. Very basic for the price we paid, it was cold and not as cosy as other hotel rooms Ive stayed in which were actually cheaper. We had to ask for another heater as the room temperature was freezing although we turned it up to full. After paying £10 to park over night at the NCP car park in the city centre we were told there was a customer car park at the hotel, it says there's no parking on website. The room was extremely basic for the money we paid and the beds were not the most comfortable. Also there was an unusual smell in our bedroom which we could smell each time we entered the room.had booked a twin, but was allocated a double, and no other rooms available. I had to ask for a hair dryer as they are not provided as standard. The first room we were offered smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and looked grubby, I had to point out that we had requested a non smoking room on booking and we were then offered an alternative room which was much nicer. The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable, and more towels in the room would have been welcome.
