I read reviews online before booking and liked what I saw - when we arrived it was everything I expected. Our rooms weren't ready but we were offered a complimentary hot drink and were able to leave our luggage whilst we went out to the town centre. Our rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. We only stayed one night so having checked out next day were still able to leave out luggage whilst we went back into town. Overall I would recommend as a good value base for exploring York. Only a 10 .
all reviews » All staff fantastic,could not be more helpful especially having a cheeky 18 month old stopping over ,we enjoyed all meals good breakfast with plenty of choice,room 28 very spacious good for little ones to move around ,The evening meal is excellent and good value ,town is within walking distance 10 mins walk tops with push chair,good bar area for relax and chill out,what more can i say excellent,and yeah we will be stopping again,. We travelled on the day after the big storm & they kept our booking open even though we were very late & hadn't been able to contact them. It was also my second visit there & was up to the standard I had received before. It is walking distance from York railway station for the semi-fit, otherwise a 5 minute taxi ride. As we arrived after the evening meal time, we were recommended a good inexpensive place to eat well. I searched booking website for a long time in order to find a good place to stay in York. I only stayed in Wheatlands Lodge Hotel for one night, but I like that place so much. The beautiful design, the pretty flowers, the warm-hearted working staff, and the comfortable room made me so satisfied. I would like to go York again, and choose Wheatlands Lodge Hotel again. Thank you so much for all the offer it gave to me. The hotel is clean, rooms were adequate and warm. Breakfast was good quality products. The staff are friendly and welcoming. This was our first stay at this hotel and we will be back again next year. I recommend this hotel, especially when we have paid ridiculous amounts of money for more lack lustre and grotty hotels. The atmosphere in the bar is fabulous it made our stay very enyojable. Ground floor room available for those unable to climb too many stairs due to absence of lift. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast good. Location - nearby interesting shops in Micklegate en route to city centre (15min stroll). Cinema just around corner. Railway Station 10 min walk. Good size Dining Room and many smaller tables for one or two people without having to share with others. We arrived very early as we wanted to enjoy add much time as possible in York, expecting to get into our room later. However the room was ready so we unpacked and were offered complimentary refreshments (which we turned down). The room was everything we needed with a great breakfast cooked to order in the morning. Only complaint, we wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel is set in a quiet back street just up the road from a park. Within easy reach of transport if required. Initial greeting was excellent offering a drink in the lounge. Clean, uptodate rooms. Staff friendly and helpful. Meals were excellent with the evening meal being of excellent value particularly when compared to alternative restaurants in the centre. Lovely friendly staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. We have stayed here several times and have always been well looked after. This time was my son's graduation and the owners did everything they could to help make it very special and a few yesrd ago the owner helped dig our car out of the snow! A big thank you to all the staff. Loved this hotel,had a lovely stay,staff were fab and breakfast was lovely! We wanted to stay anoter night! Very close to city centre on a beautiful street.5 min walk to bars n restaurants,city walls also 5 min walk away! It isnt a luxary hotel but a well run lovely family run guest house and well worth 80 pounds!. the food was very good and you were not out faced by portions served as is often the case quality over quantity.the bar prices were also good value which some times is an issue when staying in hotels.all in all a good experience and i would revisit which im not prone to do usually. Wheatlands Lodge Hotel is wonderfully close to York. I walked past Mickelgate Bar every day on my way into York which was about 10 minutes away. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and there was lots for breakfast and dinner. Stay at this place because it's gorgeous. We thought the Hotel was great and good value for money, we had complimentary hot drink on arrival and free car parking also, we checked out on Sunday and asked if we could leave our car at Hotel and nothing was a problem. We booked again for next year. The place is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble, The hotel is very clean, you can alter your heating, windows that open and décor very pleasant. Nice bar area and drinks very good price. We have stayed here a few times and would book again. Close to shops and train station. Staff very pleasant and friendly warm welcome on arrival. Nothing really we didn't dislike. Car park manoeuvres can be tricky. Room 67, located on stairway between ground and 1sr floor, had a faulty window which didn't close well Although there were non smoking signs everywhere, I did smell cigarrette smoke in my room in the evening 2 consecutive nights I could hear people shouting by the stairway outside my room from early morning at 7 and even until late at night. Shower system not very intuitive and not good, didn't have a constant flow of warm water. Nothing to report. There was nothing we did not like about the hotel. There is no elevator for the second floor. Breakfast was ok but not really all that special. Would have liked more catering for non-dairy guests. Also very busy Sunday morning so that we were forgotten about and then finally got our eggs which were completely hard-boiled, not soft as ordered. Would have liked a wider choice of teas and fruit. In room 23, the window had been left open by the maid, so that it became very cold in the night. A blanket would have been useful. The location is on a busy street and the traffic was sometimes noisy, but not terrible. Nothing. Nothing everything was good. Nothing. The coffee!. There is limited parking to the rear available and cars can get blocked in. Breakfast times at weekends and bank holidays could benefit from a short extension to 10am, selection is limited. Check out times are early at 10:30am. There wasn't anything that I didn't like. It is a well run and friendly hotel. Parking, although advertised, very limited. Although the staff were excellent re moving cars if you were blocked in. The only small criticism was that breakfast was only until 9.00 we would have liked a slightly later option. There was nothing to complain about. The member of staff who checked us in seemed very distracted and not all that happy to be there. This same person serviced us breakfast in the morning and didn't even offer a smile! Toiletries in the bathroom would have been nice, usually shower gel is provided or something but there was nothing. offered!. personally nothing, my friends were on the ground floor at the back, and were awoken each morning by the bins being emptied at 5am! but apart from that we all enjoyed our stay!. Nothing to dislike. Despite thinking that some 'negative' comments on some reviews were being a bit picky- we then found these comments to be perfectly true! The bed was awful-constantly creaking, and the shower was fixed to the wall and I had to stoop to get a proper wash. Not so much that I didn't like but there is no lift [as far as we could ascertain] so if you are elderly [or infirm in any way] ensure you ask for a ground floor room. We were OK but it was a bit of a trek up to the top floor.
