What people say
The location is great - around 10 mins to the city wall and a further 10 to the centre. It was lovely inside too - we stayed in the rose suite which was perfect - very cosy and romantic! Breakfast in the morning was fab too! We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, providing some excellent advice on restaurants. bars etc to visit in York, and were made to feel very welcome throughout. all reviews »

Clean and comfortable. Helpful staff. Very friendly and informative staff. Prsonal atention to detail. Room decor, breakfast. Nearly everything. The hotel was in close proximity to York City centre. We had a suite which was very comfortable for a weekend stay. There was a varied choice for breakfast an ample portions. The staff were very helpful when required, but left you to your own devices rather than appear to be checking on your every move as in some hotels.Beautiful room! The breakfast was great, the conservatory was lovely and the honesty bar a nice idea - no closing time! The staff were very friendly and helpful, able to advise us on nice places to go. The welocme on arrival, the room, the breakfast and generally the whole experience of our stay at the Bishops.Very friendly staff. Clean room with everything needed. Good location of the hotel. friendly atmosphere and fantastic room . also a 10 minute walk into town centre'. The friendly staff were very helpful and made suggestions about the area. clean/tidy/helpful/well situated/free parking. Quiet clean good service excellent breakfast. lovely personal service from friendly staff. The only thing that could be commented on was the narrow window for breakfast - between 8 and 9. Although this is a very minor point, and didn't affect our stay in any way. Also, we had expected bath robes in the room as advertised, but weren't there on arrival. No It was great. Everything was fine. Not a thing. HAving to have breakfast between 8 and 9 A.m was a little restricting aswe were having a midweek break. Nothing really. Clutching at straws, the bedroom floor was very creaky, which I feared, being an early riser, might disturb other guests. The room did not have double glazing and was on the front facing a very busy road. Found it hard to sleep with the traffic noise. Would benefit from double or secondary glazing. Slightly on the pricey side but was worth it for the level of service received. We would, without a doubt, stay there again. The road outside gets busy during rush hour. The 8-9 breakfast slot was a little early and should be between 8.30 and 10am. They no longer provide bath robes and this should be removed from advertised. Unfortunately no food was served in the evening and no take away food was allowed, so with a very young child it was awkward for us to eat out which we did but were rushed due to our boy needing feeding and apparently breastfeeding is frowned upon in public in the UK and there are very few facilties for this, so there you have it! But other than that everything was fine!. Outside looks quite drab and institutional. The stairway but we are well into in our 60's. Check out is a little earlier than most hotels I've stayed in, but the room was so beautifully presented you can see why they'd need the extra time. Room situated under kitchen, which made it noicy in the mornings.no. somewhere to have a smoke would of been nice.
