We travelled by train as it was much cheaper than staying in the centre of Edinburgh. With trains every 30 minutes until late at night the 10 minutes on the train was well worth it with the Hotel just accross the main road from Newcraighall station. Having stayed at several Premier Inns it was veyr much as we have come to expect with a good size room and a very comfortable bed. The Cuddie Brea next door had a wide choice menu.
all reviews » Great location - easy to access from the city bypass. Good price. Easy to travel to city center by train or bus. The first impression was good because it has a quaint relaxing look about it on the outside, that shouted "You're on holiday in Scotland". Parking was easy. The staff was fantastic, helping cheerfully with whatever I asked about. Excellent welcome when we arrived Friday evening. Receptionist could not have been more helpful. Lovely spacious room which was nice and cosy. Very comfortable bed. Excellent value for money and perfect location for our visit - Queen Margarets University. Dining next door also delightful. All in all, excellent value for money!. The location for the city centre was great.After getting directions and a train timetable from the very helpful staff we travelled into edinburgh by train .Very quick and easy.Breakfast was great too!Would stay here again Thanks to all. Excellent proximity to train and bus to take you into city of Edinburgh. Easy to hop in car, or bus to visit East Lothian and surrounding areas as well. The hotel was ideally situated next to the a1, the p+r and the pub next door. Convenient for rail network and Cuddy Brae first class for food and drinks. Close to bus stop for travel into city. We chose to stay outside the centre, and so the hotel is next to various out of town retail outlets which we didn;t have a problem with, but others may. There was nothing special about the room to say I was in Scotland. It was generic. The shampoo/soap provided was not sufficient as I don't like to wash my hair with body wash. There were no face cloths and there was not enough coffee in the room to have more than a cup per person per day. So the room provisions seemed skimpy to me. Absolutely nothing to fault!. No phone in the room. Can walk to Carphone warehouse and pay 4 pounds for cheap phone and top off 20 pounds for a few weeks of local calls though. Nothing. Nothing. The hotel was subcontracted to the pub next door for eating side of things. The options were not the same as the other Premier Hotels, eg no skimmed milk available. More importantly the staff in the morning on our first day and our last were unfriendly, short, unapproachable and it all seemed too much trouble to do their job. We did give feedback to the hotel. Refurbishment works going on so noisy. The waiter that served us for breakfast was rude, inattentive, and rushed in comparison to how he treated locals. Paying twice as much as the advertised 29 gdp for the room per night. Computer system a bit patchy - had to book in manually. Hard mattress on bed. The square towels and the absence of flannels. Heating didn't work in room. It feels very 20th century to have to sit in the lobby to get free wifi (or to pay for it in the room)? Where is their marketing?!. Nothing. Both my husband and i did not sleep very well and had sore backs in the mornings. we did not complain as this has never happened before and you might just think we are trying to get our money back. Room was a little sparce, no drawers, minimum hangers, no phone. No View. Being woken up at 0230 by loud gits next door in room 19. Turns out one was in fact the night staff member Dean, who was tending to bed linen...yeah right, for nearly one and a half hours...Fortunate that Mikey was on when we left, he sorted out a refund for the stay, look forward to getting that? hope Dean gets a slating, bang out of order. The only downside other than Dean was the railway line directly behind. Needs to be advertised on the web. A bit expensive for a basic hotel. It was basic. Situated slightly further from Central Edinburgh than we had anticipated. the rude behaviour of the employee at the reception desk (they made us leave earlier). You'll find much better hotels if you search a bit longer.
