It is an excellent hotel, definitely good value for money (but book in advance if going over a holiday period to get a fair price). The service is one of the best I've seen, friendly helpgul and always with a smile. Very good Balkan style breakfast - you have to enjoy the local stuff (excellent quality and plentiful) and forget about French style croissant/fruit youghurt/petit cafe (Turkish tea works wonders replacing regular coffee, otherwise they do have instant coffee to offer). My wife mentioned the nephew was having his 21st birthday the day here arrived (we were already there). When he got there 30 minutes later, they had gone out and gotten a cake, brought it out to us in the lobby as he was checking in, and sang happy birthday to him...all on their own, because they wanted to help celebrate! No asking for it to be done, no charging f. The staff were fantastic, as good as family. They heard my nephew was having his 21st birthday, and on their own went out and got a cake and had a party for him! Gratis! They were honestly kind, concerned, helpful...I don't think I have enough "good" words in my vocabulary to describe them! The location is wonderful for exploring all the main things you'd want to see. Great restaurants a stone's throw away, yet still a quiet place. And the Turkish people in general are so very kind and ho. The hotel is located in one of the best places to visit Istanbul. When we arrived the staff took time to tell us some things about the city and they showed us the hotel room. The rooms are small, but what else can you expect of such a great central location and a old Ottoman building? Beds we're fine, TV small and only one channel. We we're on the sixt floor and had a 'view' on the Bosporus. Bathroom was OK. It is one of the best hotels I've ever been. Small but cozy, great hospitality from the personnel, view on the street, clean rooms with perfect air-conditioning and comfortable beds, and an excellent breakfast for all tastes. It is centrally located, near all the important sight-seeing. No need of car use. Beautiful old building, which gives you the sense of another era. Absolutely recommended to everyone. Sherif, especially made our stay very easy from the minute we stepped into the hotel to the time we had to leave. Just the one: walls are not sound-proofed, but then I guess it's to be expected, the hotel is a refurbished old "palais" in center Istanbul, which adds to its overall charm. But be prepared with earplugs to get a good night's sleep, or ask for a 6th floor attic room with the added benefit of the view over the city (knowing that the elevator goes only up to 4th floor, for obvious logistical reasons). We stayed away from that part of town and saw absolutely no disruption at all...it's all confined to that one area in Istanbul, though I do understand there have been other demonstrations in different parts of the country. Stick to tourist areas and don't be silly, you'll be fine. Some places could be cleaned better (for example the bathroom). Dust everywhere. Old town is pretty crowded with small streets and it can take you hours until you find the hotel. Use GPS or locate the hotel prior your arrival to be more easy. We didn't have that luck and it took us 3 hours to find the hotel and in a rush-hour. Nothing really, but just wanted to say that I can understand comments on the small rooms. What you have to consider is that these hotels are in very very old beautiful buildings where it would be difficult to create space in the rooms. I found them more than adequate as we only really slept and got ready in them. Room size a bit smallish. Not everything in the room is in perfect condition. Difficult to work tv- too complicated. Very small room, shower room and wardrobe. Only space for one bedside cabinet. Nowhere to sit, but on the bed. It was manageable for our two nights, but would have struggled with more baggage over a longer period. A number of shower room fittings broken. The fact that every one of the 6 nights we spent at this hotel was disturbed- we were unable to have a complete night's sleep the whole time! The rooms are so small and the walls are paper-thin,so every sound carries throughout the building. Also, on 3 nights-members of staff were talking directly outside our bedroom door! When I complained to the Reception staff-no remedial action was taken.To say I was disgusted is putting it mildly.
