It is located on an elevation outside the town, which can be reached by a quarter-hour walk down an attractive hillside path or a few minutes drive. A pleasant, if hilly, walk down through fields to the beach and two restaurants. It was a little way out of town so a car would be required for further restaurants and shops.

It was spacious, clean, plenty of hot water, kitchen facilities were adequate for our needs and the towels and linen were clean and fresh.   The office stayed open just to check us in - we were arriving quite late. The young lady on duty tried to ring us a couple of times to check how we were going on what was a pretty terrible night weather-wise. The room easily catered for six of us - with the kids each getting a separate bed. - We loved the space of our unit and how it was tucked ... what people say » away of the main street.   The owners were very friendly and supportive, giving us good advise on what to do and see in Kaikoura. It's super clean and looks/feels brand new. The location is not too far away from the center-nice walk. Excellent standard and the host couldn't do enough for us. We would definitely stay in a Bella Vista again if this is the normal standard. - The owners were awesome , super friendly and helpful. Nest time I go to Kaikoura I will definitely be staying there. - The manageress was extremely helpful when we decided to move on earlier than expected after the cancellation of our planned whale-watching trip and went out of her way to help us find accommodation at our next port-of-call.

  Our stay at The Kaikoura Gateway Motor Lodge began with an easy check in at which time the owner upgraded us to a one bedroom free of charge. Nice!! The suite was spacious and well laid out with a well appointed kitchen and there was a walk out to a balcony with chairs and a table. It far exceeded the usual tourist motel accommodation in NZ. There was also a playground opposite in alarge park for the kids to expend energy. Excellent accommodation, don't even consider anywhere else.

  The motel was very conveneient for us as an overnight stay on our way to Dunedin. We appreciated their appeciation when we realised we hadn't been charged for breakfast and we then arranged for payment to be made. All too often there is no thanks when someone goes out of their way to correct an incomplete payment ( in our case) or something else. ... what people say » The room was warm and the bed comfortable parking very easy so what else could we ask for? - Outstanding hospitality. We stayed two nights on different dates and enjoyed it each time. We would go there again any time in the future. The Motel is located next to the most stunning views and walks in New Zealand. The owners are absolutely friendly and eager to help. The rooms, floors, bathroons are squirky clean. The kitchenette is well equipped. Two restaurants are just a few steps away.

The bed was a good size and comfortable, you could see the mountains from the car park and the suite was tastefully decorated, very clean and well-equipped. - A bit off the main drag which was nice but not far from anything.
