This was the best hotel I have stayed in for many years. I will highly recommend it to others and will stay there again if I am in Galway. staff were always really helpful and friendly, it was also a 2min walk from eyre square, the shops and the bus station and was really cheap. The staff were very friendly, the location was excellent, very central to Galway City and the traditional music that evening was great.

My Room. It was so close to eyre square and there was free parking. The staff allowed us to leave the car in the carpark for the next day even though we were only staying the one night. I could hear people having a big argument as we were walking to our room. Was also woken up at 5am to people shouting in the next room. The evening meal wasn't very good, although lunch and breakfast was excellent. The carpark was a bit small. The room allocated had been a smoking room and we would have preferred a choice as we are non smokers.had to change room because of noise from generator but it was done with ease. My only negative point would be that perhaps if we were given some more information about entertainment in the bar it would have been helpful. I had to ask the Receptionist if there was music in the bar on the Friday night and she wasnt sure if there was. She said 'I think there is'....The pillows weren't great and could hear the tv and talking from the room next door. Room was on the first floor above bar. Quite noisy till about 2am on Saturday night.Parking area is very small if you move your car during your stay you may not have a space when you return. While the parking is secure it's not guranteed. Internet did´t work. rooms were noisy. Due to (drunk) people shouting and making lots of noice in the evening and almost the entire night, we couldn't sleep very much, that was the only minor detail. Not too sure if possible, but it would be something worthwhile for the hotel to improve...It was a bit run down though they were doing renovations at the time. The corridors were narrow and it was a bit of maze to get to the room. We didnt arrive til near 6pm and by then the carpark which was quite small was more than full. I was told at reception that the car would be parked elsewhere so I assumed this meant in another carpark. However when I checked out, my car was parked on the road outside the carpark. I'd prefer if it had been in carpark, you never know what can happen when u leave it on the street.

The Western Bar is a warm and welcoming place, traditional, friendly and renowned for the largest open traditional Irish music sessions in Galway.

There are Traditional Irish music sessions on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 21:30, Ceili Irish Set dancing on Wednesdays from 21:00, a local band playing all your favourite Irish songs on Friday from 21:30, a live band on Saturdays from 21:30 and our house DJ playing all your old favourites on Sunday from 21:30.

Our bar is unique in that it is very much a local bar, popular with Galwegians, so mingling with the local people is very easy.

A selection of delicious dishes are available from our carvery and snack menu from 12:00 to 17:00 and from our A La Carte evening menu between 17:00 and 20:00 (Sundays 12:00 and 17:00 only). Our meals are prepared from fresh local produce by our award winning chef.

Important information to guests

Group Policy The Western Hotel prefers not to accommodate groups of 8 or more people. Should the group be excepted, a security deposit in the form of cash or credit card pre-authorisation for EUR 150 per room is required on check-in. Furthermore it is required a signed statement that all damages exceeding this amount will be covered by the primary booker. This deposit is refunded on departure if no damage has occurred. Please note that for bookings of 4 rooms or more, the payment options and cancellation policies are different. The required deposit is 50% at the time of booking and a further 50% deposit is required at least 2 weeks prior to arrival. The property will contact guests shortly after booking to confirm the procedure, along with details regarding the security deposit required upon arrival.

By Bus or Train: Galway’s train and bus stations are located in the city centre, just a three minute walk from The Western Hotel. On exiting the station, turn left to head towards Eyre Square. Stay on the right of the square, passing the NTL offices on the right. Turn right at Richardson’s pub on the corner and proceed up Prospect Hill. We are located on the top of this hill on your left. Driving directions from Dublin: - Take the N6 Galway/ Athlone - At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on Bothar na dTreabh/ N6 - At Morris roundabout- take the 2nd exit and stay on Bothar na dTreabh/ N6 heading to Salthill/ N59/ Clifden - At Bodkin roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Headford Road - Turn left at St. Brendans Avenue - Continue onto Bothar na mban - Turn left at Prospect Hill - Pass the hotel on the left, take the first left after the hotel and then left down the Cul de Sac. The underground car-park is located here.It is valet parking, so if all spaces are taken, please leave your car keys at reception and a designated driver will move your car if required.
