I needed a late night stopover so chose the cheapest hotel I could find, not really expecting much, just a place to crash for one night. It was a delight to find such a genuine, friendly, helpful place. I was coming back the following week and immediately, cancelled by previous choice (3 times the price ) and was lucky enough to be able to stay here again. It had a lift, the room was quite large, big glass doors open onto the balcony, Wi fi, small but perfectly adequate shower, It's right next .
all reviews » First of all, I would like to comment on all negative comments of some friends earlier about this hotel, I had not read those comments while booking this hotel but on my way to hotel I read them all and was very skeptical whether how would it be?? But honestly I found every thing Excellent. The staff was very friendly and professional, the rooms & entire hotel was very neat and clean, the location of the hotel is very good, 100 meters to Acropoli Metro Station, 10 mins walking distance to A. Its location is simply the best I've ever tried because it's placed in a quiet street but close to the new museum of Acropolis and is at the foot of Acropolis hill itself. After this hotel Plaka, the best area in Athens, starts. My room was big, comfortable and clean. Also the bathroom. The view of acropolis from my balcony was breathtaking, best view ever!!! The last but not least, the staff were really kind to me even though there was a misunderstanding about my booking. The Byron hotel is a great place to stay when in Athens. It is right in the hub of the Plaka and only 5 minutes walk from the metro and convenient to go to or from the airport. I have stayed at the Byron several times now the staff are always friendly, welcoming and very helpful. The rooms are a good size , clean comfortable and quiet. The view of the Acropolis from the balcony is so fantastic. I will definitely stay at the Byron again when next in Athens. I loved my view of the Acropolis, the proximity to the ancient theatres ( where I saw a performance of Traditional greek Music & dance), proximity to the new Museum of ancient sculpture, the life in the old streets of Plaka, good outside restaurants. Courteousness and helpfulness of the hotel staff. I would definitely reccommend Hotel Byron for its wonderful location. It was only few steps away from the Acropoli metro station and only a few minutes from the central Syntagma Square by walking. The environment was safe all through the day and night. Besides the staff was so warm and helpful. Very accessible directly from the excellent metro, at Akropoli station. The metro itself is a perfect way to get around Athens whilst the hotel, located right inside the old city at Plaka, allows guests to come and go for rests in between sightseeing. It was exactly what I needed. Excellent location, friendly staff, quiet room for central spot. Very close to many restuarants, we walked up to the left as you came out the door, found some smaller, good priced places. The location is excellent, right opposite the Acropolis, with easy Metro access. The rooms at the front of the building have ex excellent view and are more spacious. They assigned me to a rooftop room on my second stay and I could enjoy a close and superb view of the Acropolis. Besides, the staff were very helpful. Get a room with a balcony. I liked every thing about this hotel. Nothing. The Hotel Byron met my expectations. It is a modest hotel but well situated for an art or acheological interested tourist. It os family run and has been in existence with same managers since circa 1980, when I stayed there previously. The bathroom was quite small, especially in the shower it was even difficult to move. Thought the bathroom could have been slightly cleaner, but it wasn't too bad. There are at least three mosquito in our room and the air conditioner seems have not cleaned for a long time. My husband sneezed a lot after air condition opened. Small bathroom, can't take early breakfast even if it was paid. Nothing. nothing to complain about. None. Walls are paper thin, 5 euros for continental breakfast which was coffee/tea, watered down orange juice, and bread with preserves, poorest breakfast out there !!. Shower would only be comfortable for a petite person of about 95lbs. The towel bar was broken and not a lot of space for putting things in the bathroom but not bad for the price. The beds were not very good and we got bit a lot by bugs. Pics and description didn't quite match with the actual place on the booking site. We were quite disappointed. I guess as a young couple we got the crappiest and smallest rooms available... and we did change the room because first one had two separate beds though i had requested a double. Location though is amazing, I can't deny that. A bit run down bathrooms could do with some upgrading and cleaning is not good of bathrooms. No breakfast or coffee facilities notwithstanding having a dining room. Elevator broke down for the third year and we had to carry all the bags down a precarious set of steps. Athens has a cockroach problem. We found one on our first night. They changed rooms for us and it was okay after. very small. the shower was ultra small. Very noisy bed. very hard old bed that was impossibly noisy every time you had to turn – archaic shower room without anywhere to even place the soap. noisy extractor fan, noisy fridge, thin walls with noisy neighbours –– i.e. we had very little sleep. Unwelcoming staff, expensive. Bugs in the hotelroom. bathroom very small. Tiny rooms, very dark everywhere. Stairs dangerous as time lights switch on each floor, you would have to exit stair and find light in corridor of next floor to see - dangerous for elderly, light switch is not on stairs. Dumb I dont think any member of staff smiled once. Minimal effort. Depressing and small. Double room does not live up to pictures. No proper shower!! Only some handheld with nowhere to hang. No shower curtains. I.e. wet bathroom Toilet is basically UNDER the basin.(Room 43) Uncomfortable bed and cushions. Lift breaks down regularly. NOT TO BE RECOMMENDED AT ALL! Not even for 63 Euros a day. We had a broken toilet in our room that did not get fixed until the next day. They did not let us move into another room. They said they were "sold out' which I am not sure was true. They did adjust the price of the room the next day but it was a fight to get a discount. We were without a toilet all evening to the next day. That was not good.
