The Affinia has an excellent location, madison square gardens accross road, macys less than a 5 min walk..we stayed in a one bed apt,,large bedroom, 2 bathrooms, double sofa bed in living area, tv in both bedroom and living room and small kitchen.. the staff in the affinia were the most helpfull and friendly crew we have ever come accross in any hotel..i would def recommend this hotel. When we checked out, our train wasn't leaving until 5:00 in the afternoon and the Affinia offered to keep our luggage until that time at no charge.

Before our stay we spoke with reservations staff who changed our room to a higher level, and when we told that we were sharing with overseas guests (first time in NY) gave us a room that was really exceptional both in layout and view! All the staff were so very helpful, nothing too much trouble. Maureen the concierge is amazing - always polite, and knowledgeable. Central location. Staff were exceptionally helpful and courteous. The noise. Our hotel room was next to the service elevator which remained loud all morning long. Rooms are a little outdated. bathroom very small. Bottom of roll out sofa mattress was broken and not really fixedwith duct tape. Our room was behind the elevators kinda nosies. The noise from the street and the lack of air conditioning/heating due to the building rather than the hotel itself. staff at information centre were not explicit on some directions and info. as visitors we were not pleased that a quick explanation was given on certain aspects which impacted when we tried to book things around town. Air con did not work correctly and stuck on high temp which was uncomfortable . The entrance carpet.The pull out couch was very uncomfortable. Cheap and very used mattressleaves little to be desired. Rooms were dated and need refurbishment.The bathroom. The shower was not so hot and the water flow was weak. Rooms and general areas a little tired. Rooms have dated decor nd need updating. The general state of the hotel is 'tired' at best. It has not been decorated for at least 15 years! The bathroom has been lighly modified with a new floor but the rest of the room was much below my expectation. The kitchette was about 20 years old as was the wallpaper and carpet. The bed was quite small by todays standards and the air con units installed in the windows are very noisy.
