The hotel is a beautiful listed building, converted with a modern twist, and retaining almost all the original features; in a really good location for a visit to Edinburgh. My sister and I stayed in a superior twin room which was large, fabulous,and really well appointed. We ate at the hotel, and cannot fault the generous breakfast, and the small, well put together restaurant menu. The day before our stay ended there was a small plumbing problem; Sandy, who is house manager, had us moved to ano.

The staff were lovely and really helpful there had been a problem with our first room we were told we could have a first floor room because of my ms when we arrived we had in fact been given a 2nd floor room but this was soon resolved and the room we were given was lovely. we ate a couple of times from the bar menu and the food was excellent.And as i said the staff were really helpful. It was in the heart of the city, was able to walk to everything we wanted in 15-30minutes. This is also the best way to see Edinburgh- walking- and also economical. It is truly a beautiful city and the hotel is in the middle of old town. The hotel was older but clean and walking distance from the train station with luggage which is what we did when we arrived from london. Exceptional service provided by all staff; we were very impressed with their friendliness and willingness to chat, give advice, help with any issues etc. The hotel is spotlessly clean and despite the inevitable restrictions associated with any conversion work in an old building they have designed it to make the most of the space. Staff we're very friendly and helpful. They gave grape at advice on what to do during our stay and recommended excellent restaurants to dine in, if I was to manage a hotel I would employ these people. Hotel was very clean, comfortable, and we'll decorated It is situated in a great location for eating, drinking and touring. Although the single bedroom was small, it had everything that I expected a 4* hotel to be. The breakfast was first rate. I also had dinner the night I arrived - absolutely excellent. I was asked if I wished to stay in the lounge (watching Wimbeldon) and they kindly served me there. The staff were all super and attentive. The staff were very friendly and eager to help. There are no lifts in the hotel being heritage listed (so it has some character but is modern due to their refurb), however, don't let this put you off as they are so helpful in carrying luggage and its not that big a hotel so therefore not too far to walk up stairs anyway!. The hotel is in a good location for the city centre without being right in the city centre. It is on a much quieter road but only takes a minute or two to get to the main shopping area. My daughter and I stayed at The Place on our trip from the US to St Andrews University. We were very close to the many shops and restaurants which enabled us to achieve all our needs for living first year at university. The staff at The Place were very nice and extremely helpful! It was a great stay!. Hotel bar and restaurant was gorgeous. We enjoying our pre theatre meal in front of the fire on a cosy sofa and it was just perfect. Food was beautiful and staff were very friendly. We were seeing the lion king which was in a theatre at the end of the road so it was a perfect location. The hotel is quite a surprise. The rooms are spacious, clean with all the facilities working just great. Breakfast was splendid. ONE THING: THE HOTEL SHOULD TELL ITS CLIENTS THAT IT HAS THE BUS CENTRAL QUITE CLOSE AS WELL AS THE SHOPPING MALL. It's great to recommed such place. We liked everything about the Place Hotel, close to the bus station, The Playhouse Theatre,close to the shops and close to eating places in George Street. The staff were all very friendly and really helpful,really enjoyed our stay and we will definately be back. I thought the staff were amazing. They went out of their way to do what we asked for. We had a lamp not working and they brought one right away, we came very early from far away and were able to get us in our room so we could nap. Super friendly and helpful. Central location ideal Would certainly consider staying there again. This was a nice fairly small modern hotel in a very nice location. It is near the New Town and also close to the train station (in the middle of Edinburgh) and the main shopping area. Lots of cafes and bars around the corner. The staff were excellent and most helpful. The food was also vey good and not too expensive. we also liked the location except that the road outside is being dug up to put in tram tracks but that is not the fault of the hotel. Staff were very helpful with baggage, coming down the street to pick up from car and also carrying to taxi, also down the street when departing for early flight at 4.30 am. Nothing really to do with the hotel but the tram work is being carried out in York Place which is a shame because the road looks a complete mess,having said that you cannot hear the noise in the hotel. We were told that someone would show us where parking was since there was road construction. This was no so and after we spent about an hour trying to find the hotel's parking we were finally shown. This being said the hotel attendent did go out of his was to make up the slight towards us. Personally I was very happy with rooms and service. My friends were in a basement room which was a bit dark but this is stated on the website so not entirely unexpected. There is nothing I didn't like, if I wanted to be picky I would say there isn't any elevator, but don't let that put you off this hotel. I didn't mind burning off the dessert on one flight of stairs. Nothing. It was very noisy at night outside but having stayed at another hotel in Edinburgh previously and had the same issue I think it's just the city!. I was away on a short break with my nan, our hotel room was down a large flight of stairs which was fine however I had to take my suitcase too and from the hotel room by myself, I was offered no help. Breakfast was rather expensive at £9.95 per person. Climbing the stairs was difficult cause we were at the top but I knew that at time of booking. The room was also really hot during the night and it was hard to sleep, the night porter was really good though and carried me a drink to my room during the night. It does suck a little to have to walk through the restaurant to make our way to the room. It's a bit of a maze in there. But that is probably because we chose the smallest room and they are most likely the farthest away. Huge room , but only 2 working lights, the main light and one bedside light. Plenty of switches but they didn't seem to do anything. Fixtures for a mirror over basin in the bathroom, but no mirror. Suggests routine maintenance is not a priority and gives a bit of a run down impression. As it is an old building there is no lift and this might be a problem if you had young children or were elderly. Air conditioning would have been nice. We lived the view from the top floor but going up and down became tiresome if you had to do a few trips a day. Fortunately the staff helped get our luggage up and down, otherwise we might have had to ask for a ground floor room. Being picky, the bed was on the lumpy side!. No lift, but staff carried bags up stairs. Road works along York place, but staff carried bags to and from transport. No fridge in room. The only problem was the motion sensor light in bathroom it's nothing serious its just when your I'n the shower the light turns off, that's easily changed tho! Brilliant place!. Nothing. Nothing that I can think of. - no complaints at all about my stay at My Place. The restaurant could have had a significantly bigger range of food. Only downside is parking which we had to walk to.I believe this is common to the most Hotels in the aera.The other downside was the lack of a lift.The staff did carry our bags up to our room. Our room was just outside a fire door and we could hear everything that went on in the corridor. Luckily the two nights we stayed there were quiet enough, but it was a bit distracting. Also, the room was downstairs, with a velux window and it would have been nice to have had warning of its location in advance. Rooms a bit small however very clean and functional. The artwork in the room was of a certain taste and a tad scary. A little paint touch up would be nice.Bottles of water in the room would have been nice considering the warn weather. This is just a suggestion rather than a criticism. Would recommend more detailed info in room eg. food and drink menu. Absolutely loved the place and I realise i'm being dreadfully picky but we were both ill during our visit due to the bad weather and too cosy to move once we got back in the evening. We would've been a lot more likely to eat and spend money in the hotel or have drinks there if we had the menu in our room to look over when we came in, in the evening. I think breakfast could have been included in the price we paid. Also there was no lift so if you were staying in the higher floors it would be quite a climb. Noisy street at night. The information does warn you, but it was a long climb up to our room in the very top of th building. Shame only eggs cooked fresh. Breakfast a bit disappointing. Room needed a few extra items - little fridge maybe. at the moment the tram work is just outside the hotel but when this is complete there will be no problems. No lift may make getting up the stairs difficult for older individuals; lots of construction on the road outside but not noisy at all!. Disappointed breakfast wasn't included in my deal on letsbookhotel.com I didn't want to pay any extra as I thought price should have included this anyway. Windows not double glazed so quite noisy through the night. Not enough on site car parking and no drop off point outside the. Hotel . Stayed in room 3424 lovely views from the window but found the 69 stairs to climb 3 or 4 times a day very tiring . Room was small and not value for money . Room was lovely but very small. Breakfasts could have been improved slightly. Road works affected access and was noisy in morning. Noise. Friday night we were kept awake until after 3am by a group of men staying in the hotel shouting, singing and running up and down stairs. Saturday night we were kept awake until after 4am by a drunk outside the hotel shouting and singing. I don't know why the hotel reception didn't do anything about it I was ready to phone the police. The next day reception obviously didn't know anything about it. This is why I would not come again and would urge anyone I know not to stay there.
