The whole experience at The Hostel was great! the employees at the Hostel went out of their way to help you with any kind of problems and queries. You felt like you where more around friends than just an ordinary guest. The breakfast was useful and for 2 pounds very sufficient. The hostels atmosphere and areas where very spacious and made it easy to mingle and meet other traveler or just find a quiet corner to read a nice book. The showers and kitchen where among the better once I have seen in.

The hostel wants to become the best hostel in Edinburgh and are open to critique which gave me the sense that I was a honored guest and I felt very welcome. A pretty good hostel.The hostel was spotlessly clean, as were the linens. Although it was very busy - the 10:30 PM closing of the lounge meant that the hostel was very quiet after that and perfect for sleeping. The staff were very helpful in booking additional tours and offering information. All in all a wonderful experience! . The staff were really friendly and this permeated to the travellers. I asked for a few things and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. I wore ear plugs, though my fellow travellers were extremely considerate so I probably didn't need them. I would happily stay there again. The staff is really nice and help you with everything you need. The Hostel is in an excellent location, really close to the city centre (about a 10 min walk). Also the kitchen is very well equipped so you can easily cook a meal in the Hostel itself. Very good location, right opposite the trainstation and not far from the city centre, just a short walk in fact. Quite comfortable facilities and friendly staff. Kitchen was of a good help and a nice inner yard to relax in the evening. The staffs were glad to assist and check-in is slightly earlier than the rest. It's great that there was the option to cook your meals within the hostel. Generally everything was good for the price paid! Would visit there again. I planned to sleep at the airport after I got back my luggage. However, the male staff lemme stayed one night saying "you can sleep a few hours here"! For free! I was really surprised and the staff are all so nice :). This was my first experience at a hostel and I enjoyed meeting the young travelers who shared my room. It was also a great bargain. A two-minute walk took me to the airport express bus on the same street. I really liked this place. The building is modern-looking, spacious, clean and nice. The beds were very comfortable. Kitchen was well- equipped. Free wi-fi worked well. Clean,comfortable,good kitchen faciltities. right next to train station. Although building works outside this is temporary the hostel internally was very quiet. For this price and location, in Edinburgh centre, the rest becomes much less important. Its an organised place. The price was a little high compared to some other nice hostels closer to the center of the city which were cheaper. Soooo....One small point was that there was no individual bedside lighting. . the only thing I could fault is not enough hooks to hang clothes etc in the showers, apart from that 9/10. The showers aren't amazing, but you'll still get clean ;). It looked like the blanket covers are never changed, which I prefered not to think of, cause ht ethought of someone I don't know covering their bodies with the same piece of cloth that was touching my own skin was not very pleasant to say the least. The heaters in bathroom are not working, too cold for shower x x. Kitchen was formally closed between 22pm-08am. Hopefully, that didn't was that strict indeed, and there were ways to get there any time you wanted. Mixed gender shower area. It was a little smelly. I'd recommend travellers bring a sheet of their own and flip flops for the shower. small amount of toilet and shower facilities for a lot of people only downfall. I had a cold shower. There is no socket in the shared bed room which is inconvenient. In a week i havent seen any hand soap in bathrooms (i survived though). The floors just outside of the showers get pretty wet from everyone dripping, but I suppose that can't really be helped. Showers always had hair in them/not cleaned enough. Also showers went from freezing to boiling to freezing and back again constantly without touching anything. Breakfast could be better. The mattress, too worn out. the toilet is not so clean... no plugs in the room... Tiny shower cabin. The toilet is shared by one floor, it will be much better if there is toilet seats cleaner in each toilet. The hostel is about 30 minutes walking from the castle. Lack of sockets in room (have seen that others have already posted this). 'Funny' shower (either too hot or too cold) WiFi was too slow sometimes. Bathroom could be cleaner. 30 minutes walking from the castle. Poor showers, impossible to regulate the water temperature. 2nd Floor Toilets could do with an upgrade. No access to lockers when you got back after 2000. lack of security in rooms( London had lockable baskets under beds. the bath water temperature was not high enough, the sink and the shower room was too small. too little power plug. Bed is too soft. Shower water being not hot enough. my room's heater was broken. its a hostel, with all the disadvantages there of. the shower does not work properly. The smells. -showers are not so reliable. - The disk (but they are still the other guests' fault). - The beds sounds really much when you move around so you can not be a Light Sleeper. not all guests are respectful of others. coming into the bedrooms drunk and waking others in the early hours of the morning, or putting bare feet up on the table...yuck. signs up in the hostel dont seem to be enforced.

Important information to guests

A surcharge of GBP 5 per booking applies for arrivals outside check-in hours. All requests after 23:00 must ring the night bell for attention. Please note: The TV lounge, kitchen and lockers are available between 08:00 and 23:00 daily. The minimum age for booking a dorm bed is 18. The Hostel accepts long term lets up to a maximum of 2 weeks. It is at the managements discretion to allow stays for longer than 14 nights. Guests are required to show a form of photo identification such as a passport, driving license, residency cards or European ID cards upon check-in. Group Bookings: Please note that if you are a group of 8 or more people you will be asked to pay the remaining balance as a group (not individually). A security deposit of GBP 20 is required per person on arrival. This deposit is fully refundable upon check-out and subject to a damage inspection of the accommodation. Please note that you should allow time for your room to be checked on departure as this can take up to 15 minutes, if you fail to leave time for your room/s to be inspected the deposits will not be returned. Disturbing other residents will also result in a penalty charge, the amount will be determined on a case by case basis. Upon arrival your group will be asked to read through an introduction letter which lists damages and penalty charges, the hostel reserves the right to change these at any time without warning. Cancelling group bookings: If you are a party of 8 or more people our standard group cancellation policy applies. Cancellations must be made no later than 2 weeks prior to arrival or a cancellation charge applies. Guests are required to show a photo identification and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply. Please inform The Hostel in advance of your expected arrival time.
