Guards Hotel is a small hotel opposite Haymarket Railway Station in the West End and close to the EICC. Princes Street is a 10-minute walk away. The hotel is warm, welcoming and has a military theme. Each room has free Wi-Fi and is well decorated with home comforts. The staff can help with travel arrangements and local information, and Edinburgh Tattoo tickets can also be arranged. There are excellent bus links into the city centre and to Edinburgh Airport.

The location is fantastic, just 100 meters from Haymarket station and also easily accesible from the airport. Besides, the main attractions are also located within walking distance. No sweat! The room and its facilites were good enough: great enough, featuring coffee machine and free wifi as well. Needless to say, the room was clean. Breakfast was also great. Definitely I would come back to this hotel, while travelling to Edinburgh again. Thumbs up!.
all reviews » The attention of the staff to make sure you were settled in. The staff had put on the heating in the room in advance so it was lovely and warm. I was leaving before breakfast started and they had laid out cereal and toast making facilities to use. They have spent a lot of money on new carpets and upgrading bathrooms to make them clean and very fresh. Very strong and secure wi-fi Puts a lot of the big brands to shame. The staff at the Guards Hotel could not do enough to assist & were so friendly & helpful. They could not do enough to try & assist ( writing down bus instructions & allowing us to leave luggage to pick up later). The room are incredibly clean with very comfortable beds. The location is brilliant & very central. Location, close to Haymarket Railway Station and a short walk to restaurants and pubs. Clean, comfortable bed. Hearty breakfast. Pleasant, helpful staff. Ideal for a one night stopover. Charming staircase. Unexpected garden view to the backyard from our Tower Room. Breakfast quite okay. The room was fresh, and the bathroom functioned well. Two minute walk from train station but to be honest I wouldnt go back, I booked a luxury double bedroom and the room I got was a family room with pre war furniture and duct tape holding the lights on.the front doorway hadnt been dusted in ages I wasnt impressed at all with the hotel. Nothing. Nothing - it is a clean welcoming hotel that you can have a good nights sleep. This is a personal thing & certainly would not put me off staying a the hotel again. I am quite health conscious ( the reason for being in Edinburgh was to run the Edinburgh Marathon ) & would have liked the option of a more healthy style breakfast ( the traditional cooked breakfast was great for the day after the marathon but not the day before or on the day ). The room could do with a little TLC - rehang the curtains, tighten the tap on the wash basin, remove the remnants of the old lock from the door. Otherwise not a lot to dislike!. Decor needs updating a bit, cooked breakfast left a bit to be desired but there was toast and cereal available too so not really a problem. the mattress was a bit flat/oldish?. It's close to the street, may be a bit noisy.But it's fine at night. The room needed decorating and the curtains re-hung. Temperature in shower was uncontrollable. (Scalding or freezing with nothing in-between) Hours front desk would be manned not posted. No chairs in the room. Curtain badly hung. 2nd floor and no lift. Can't fault it!. Just when arrived the lad who there seemed a bit busy to want to help. Everything about the hotel was great. The roadworks outside were ugly but nothing the hotel could do about that. No parking and not en suite. No parking,. didnt like to make own toast and collect jams etc like to be served in the morning milk in the rooms was off. I dont think you could spend a lot of time in the room, as it was a little small. The stud walls dividing the bedrooms are very thin, so I could hear someone snoring in the next room. Construction of rail for airport tram on street in front. The hotel was not as 'refurbished' as it appeared in the advert. Room was very basic and musty smell in Hall and room. Had to give it agood spray with my LadyMillions! Daughter could feel springs in her mattress. I kept hearing 'Ping' every time she turned. Price wise tho was good for Edinburgh. It is a very old building with all that goes along with it. No parking. Only use this location if you arrive by train. Poor non-cooked breakfast selection and watery coffee Pervasive smell of cooking. Hotel very "tired" on suite very poor.No bulb in bedside light.Multi-plug extension to accomodate lack of points. The bed was so soft and sagged, and the room had no temperature control (I was freezing if I didn't have the blanket on me). The bathroom wasn't in the room (which I missed on the website) but at least it was clean. The room was tiny and I could hear everything outside the room. It's fine for a 20-something backpacker but not for an adult. I should have done a little more research and not booked so hastily. There just is not enough space to say how bad this --"hotel" ? is--by far the worst place i have ever been to ! an absaloute disgrace to edinburgh---the only thing is to look somewhere else 0 out of 10.
