This is a real hotel, not a B&B. They have 24 hour desk coverage, secure luggage storage, a few vending machines, and their own cafeteria which we did not take advantage of. There is a bar with a pretty good calamari on a bun sandwich and a great bakery with a special 2for1 croissants for one Euro next door. WiFi in room. Due to an illness, we were allowed late check out, and even were offered an additional half price fee to remain in the room until early evening before departing. The balc.
all reviews » The location of the building right in front of Atocha train station, very helpful if you are traveling by train to other cities or to take the airport bus. Also an excellent location to visit the 3 most important museum in Madrid; the Reina Sofia Museum is right next door, the Thyssen and El Prado museum are about 2-3 blocks from the hotel. The inside of the hotel is beautiful and very clean. The staff is very friendly; I want to thank especially Alex, he was very nice to me. I was given room 2. Impeccable! Very clean room and updated bathroom. Water pressure amazing. The room we got was quite big. We stayed there the night before we flew back to the US, so it was perfectly located near the train station to go to the airport. it is also very close to the city center and the calle de las Huertas, the bar and restaurant street. We got a quite good night sleep before the flight. Many reviewers here seemed to complain about noise and small rooms. Our room was on the 6th floor and was very . I lived in a very nice room small but very cozy and clean. It had a view looking directly to the Atocha station, with an opening in a wide scenery starting with the park in the left, the ministerial building, the railway station and large boulevards to the right. The hotel staff is very friendly. There is a dining room on the first floor, overlooking the main street too, and a very nice and spacious lounge for serving morning coffee with friends. We loved our stay at the Mediodia. Our very comfortable room looked over the plaza and Reina Sofia entrance and the bathroom exceeded our expectations. We did not eat at the hotel because there were so many wonderful bars and cafes in the area. The staff were excellent and we shall certainly stay there next time we visit Madrid. Great connections to Renfe, Cercanias, and Metro lines. Right across the street. You can get anywhere very quickly. Very close to El Prado and Parque del Retiro. (one block and two blocks respectively.) Free WiFi so it was easy to stay in touch with family back home. My friend and I loved the location and would enjoy staying there again. The young staff were very helpful and spoke English well; the older staff members were not as proficient in English nor as helpful in general. Overall it was a very positive experience. Some reviewers here seem to complain about breakfast, so just don't get it and go to Museo de Jamon around the corner for 1.5 Euro sandwiches and drink. Our room did not have the noises from the street but the hotel itself is noisy from people walking in the hallways and stairs. May be the rooms are not well insulated. As this hotel is in a main area and so close to station there was a fair amount of noise during the night. Not very soundproof so some noise from corridors and next door room - but not a major problem, would not put me off staying. Some inconsiderate guests banging doors, and running on floors above. Breakfast could have been improved (maybe pay a bit extra) as only cereal, roll and crossiant with jam and cream cheese provided. Last time we were given a room with the window into the interior yard and it was so gloomy there. But this time the room was great. The breakfast is limited in relation to the price, but dont make the hotel a bad place to stay. Its better eat the breakfast in restaurants near of the hotel. Perhaps tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms or a snack bar /café on the premises. None. Nothing. Front desk staff could have been friendlier and more helpful, some were but most of them let the team down. Wifi needs to be improved, it's so important to travellers these days. Rock hard pillows !!!!. Not exactly soundproof! There was noise from the street and also from hotel guests. Just blanket and shhet on the bed instead of real duvet, not so higienical, but typical for Spain , France etc... Limited breakfast.Not so good coffee. Nothing. For the price you pay it is fair. Breakfast was not good. Upon arrival, a man in the reception recommmended a tapas bar which was unfortunately very poor, untypical and very expensive. Upon leaving, the baggage man in the lobby offered to weigh a piece of our luggage, and managed to confuse kilos with pounds, resulting in much panic, opening of suitcases and transferring of contents from one to the other, in the middle of the lobby -- until we realized what had happened!!. Messy shower. Below average mattress. Breakfast very continental. Should put a warning on the site to inform guests that there is a hostel with the same name around the corner ... a harrowing experience to say the least ... bit noisy. More sound proof doors to corridors would have helped greatly; more detailed instructions on how to operate wi-fi plus more secure Wi-F and more instructions on operation of Air Conditioning. Being and older hotel, beds and sheets are old as well, not very comfy but do the job I guess. Very poor breakfast, wifi only partially reliable. Room size, to small. A little bit outdated. Nothing.
