This was our second stay at the Grand Hotel Melbourne and we were warmly greeted upon arrival. The staff are always very friendly and eager to help were possible. All the rooms are very spacious and clean with the most amazingly comfortable beds. We were also touched that the staff had given us a complimentary bottle of champagne upon arrival!. The rooms are spacious, we had a balcony, rooms and hotel clean, food great. Ideal for city entertainment. Near tram, trains. Ideal location.staff very pleasant. Value for money. We return every year and it has a swimming pool..near the docklands and local shops (7 eleven), Crown complex, Aquarium, immigration house.

We loved the old building with its wide, long corridors and high ceilings, and the grand staircase, once we located it. The bed was very comfortable; and nice to have bath robes available. Despite double glazing there was still the rumble of trains and trams, but not enough to keep us awake. The walls up to the bedrooms of the apartment would benefit from a lick of paint. Breakfast was in room, two salt containers was delivered. ( pepper missing). The lifts were having maintenance done and had to use service lifts which were a little slow, not a HUGE deal just a slight inconvenience. Fridge wasn't turned on when I arrived, room smelt musty. There are private residences on some floors and our room was next to one where the resident smoked, it was disgusting. Room (studio with balcony) furniture was very shabby, though they are currently refurbishing and renovating the rooms. This'd would explain the excellent rate we paid! Staff are not overly friendly or as attentive as you would expect from a 4.5 star rated hotel. Shower. nothing. open walls in the bedroom no en suite in the main bedroom. nothing really, very good value for money. Not as clean I expected for a five star hotel. I saw stains on the pillow and blanket, also hairs on the glass. And they only change the towers everyday, not the pillow and blankets. And I don't think they vacuum everyday. The television didn't work. the cost to car your car. Vallet parking. The lift was not working. The rooms are old, need a modern update. The kitchen could have done with more pots, pans, plates etc. the bed was like a huge marshmallow! Too soft for me. The hotel is run down and has renovations taking place on the same floor as we stayed. Not very clean and not at all luxurious as claimed on the website. Furnishings are tatty, no French toiletries as claimed, shabby without the chic!. The cleanliness was substandard. Mould in bathroom and generally not kept up to standard. Maintenance issues such as floor in kitchen had nails sticking out. Property needs refurbishing Bathroom very poor for 5 star - cracked tiles and damaged/ warped woodwork on door frames. Curtains dirty &couch torn. Layout of 2 brm should be explained more as little privacy with each brm having open plan. The main lift was broken. We had to travel in the service lift up to the fifth level. As there was only one lift available we had to share the lift with garbage bins on different occasions. Not a pleasant experience. No milk in fridge when we got there. Had to ring reception. That there was no bath in the room as advertised. It was obviously a modified room for people with special needs, I did not request this. Spa was cold and pool not heated. Noise fro trains and room configuration for two couples. Poor service Dirty room. Lack Of Service And Deceptive Advertising Of What Was In The Hotel. The room wasn't made up properly the next day. There was still hair on the bathroom floor and in the bath tub. A touch run down in room light fitting missing crack tiles..
