Perfect location! Dead opposite Arndale Centre, Harvey Nics and Selfridges and located in the 'posh' area. Lots of great restaurants and bars nearby. I have stayed at this hotel twice this year; once with friends and once with my boyfriend and it's perfect for both weekends. Staff are so friendly, happy and helpful! If you don't like a buzzing atmosphere then don't stay here as depending on the time of year and what events are on, it's pretty busy all weekend with the bar/restaurant downstairs .

I couldn't have asked for a better location - very quaint and beautiful surroundings in the very heart of Manchester. The quality of the room was excellent, complete with nice toiletries - homely room with plenty of character. For what I paid, it's the best value hotel I've had the pleasure of staying in - we had a wonderful, memorable night, we would not hesitate to stay again - many thanks!. The location is brilliant as you are right in the heart of the City. The hotel has tremendous character and was very comfortable---great comfortable beds and also coffee making facilities. Very clean and good value for money. The highlight of this Hotel is the staff---true Northern Hospitality, they were friendly and funny and chatty--great team. I got a very stylish double room nr.6 with BIG flat-screen TV, the bed was extremely comfortable, the linen was super clean and fresh. Overall - an excellent stay, totally value for money! Will be on my list when I go to Manchester again. Fabulous location, really helpful staff (told us everything we needed to know to get the most out of our stay). Anyone who is infirm would struggle with the stairs etc - but this is an historical building and its quirks and uneven floors are part if its charm. Three bars including a residents bar open to the wee small hours - perfect access to all city centre amenities and amusements!. The hotel and staff were welcoming and friendly with location fantastic. Our room had a big tv ,modern decor and a large bathroom. Breakfast was offered on arrival although we decided to go to a nearby pub for breakfast. Staying on a Sunday the rate for our room was very reasonable although I don't think I would pay sat/event rates for the particular room. A very quirky hotel; if you like corporate "sameness", it's not for you! The floors slope and the beds are high and squishy! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is right in the middle of town, beside the Christmas Markets, the Arndale Shopping Centre and is a great place from which to explore the city centre. I've stayed several times at the Mitre since the 1970s with the BBC and have always enjoyed myself - also with my family. I think that in the 80s I had porage AND kippers. cheap, brilliant location, very central. staff very friendly. was no problem to leave our bags until check in time. lovely bar downstairs and great beer garden next door. lovely hot showers. we have stayed here a few times now and would happily stay again. We were fortunate enough to get the executive room no. 33 which was very comfortable and spacious. The design was quirky and the room featured a big screen tv, comfy bed and a gorgeous view on Manchester city center through large windows. Robbie on reception was incredibly helpful, welcoming and obviously hard working. The room looked beautiful and linen was very clean and fresh. I had the charm of an old inn with a slightly uneven floor giving the sense of an older building. Very comfortable bed. Nice decor. Good breakfast and friendly staff. It was a pretty building in a very nice and interesting area close to the Victoria train station, trams, the Manchester Arena, Arndale centre, Cathedral, good looking pubs and National Football Museum. City centre location - Fabulous summer atmosphere in outside drinking area. A boiling hot shower (just various degrees of hot water available), and creaky floorboards. Radiator did not work on the first night of a two night stay but this was rectified as soon as I brought it to someone's attention. The bed in our room was uncomfortable and the ensuite was cramped - but not to the point that we wished to complain. I couldn't get comfortable in bed at night and the bed creaked whenever me or my partner turned over during the night. The bathroom could benefit from an upgrade, but very clean. TV had no channels and did not work - nothing to watch. I could not find a hair dryer anywhere. I could have come to reception to ask about both issues but wasn't too bothered - but someone else might complain !. I honestly cannot find fault I visit Manchester quite a lot and have stayed in some very poor rooms but will always try to stay at the Mitre in future visits. Havent found anything I dont like about this hotel. Creaky floorbroads, I opened under sink cuboard and it wasn't a nice site. see porage!!. the room was a little warm but other than that this hotel was perfect for our budget. The bathroom was renovated but looked like it wasn't finished. Kettle a bit dodgy had to hold it down for it to boil!. A little noisy but to be expected from an older building right in the city center. No lift, need to climb staircase. Room just a bit small. Bathroom only OK. Thought the shared bathrooms needed a lick of paint. Didn't like that I could not order a vegetarian breakfast. My room looked out to a busy pub courtyard, so it was noisy until after closing time. The window really needed a good clean, too!. If travelling by car check out overnight parking locally. Can be more expensive than the hotel. The locks on the door looked old. TV should have been located on opposite wall to the bed, not the side wall. If it had to be on the side wall should have swung out so visible easily from the bed as only 1 chair in the room. Room a bit tatty, but clean. Cheap furniture, carpet poorly fitted.It would have benefited from a wall mirror as well as the small shaving mirror in the bathroom. But, was only there for one night so it didn't really bother me. Window wouldnt stay open. Smell of the kitchen coming up into the bathroom. When we came to breakfast in the morning everything was empty, still we came on opening time. We had to join the McDonalds team that morning. I´m an night person but downstairs there is a bar and around 03:00 am when the bar was closing the staff dumped big pile of bottles in to a iron container causing very loud noise when all the bottles broke. Hart rate of 200 for few seconds while figuring out what the he.. was going on. nothing. Nothing. What you see is what you get!. Room we stayed in was quite shabby! Wallpaper peeling, plaster showing in various places, enamel off bath in bathroom and flat screen tv only had good reception on music channel! We did not complain as only there one night and staff were all lovely!. Room (8) a little shabby (curtains hanging off, loose wiring, mould around shower) No bedside table or reading lamp bed - two mattress on top of each other so ridiculously bouncy and high! Poor service at breakfast by a dishevelled server... Kept forgetting tea and coffee orders, didn't explain anything or ask how we wanted breakfast...was quite unpleasant, unhelpful and rude. (There had been a burst pipe in the night but still!..) No lift or offer of help with bags. water from shower likewarm at best. The room was draughty and cold as the windows didn't close properly and one was broken. Also the heating didn't work properly. It was also very noisy as it backed onto an alleyway where bottles were thrown out all night and then emptied at 5.00 am!!! Didn't get a good night's sleep. Rooms are loud from the downstairs and outside bars. Our room appeared to be in the process of being updated and we had NO water pressure in the shower and the bathroom was very small. Our friends had a more updated and spacious bathroom, so it just depends on the room. Nothing that would prevent me from going back. The heater is not working... Minor improvements mainly to do with upgrading the older decor. Nothing that can't be fixed. Only other issue is noise in the back alleyway from glass bottles being disposed of - perhaps the bar staff could somehow do it at another time?. Well only we was told on arrival that our residents bar would be open for guests till 5am,but when we went at 11.30pm the guy behind reception told us he didnt have the keys to open the till so we would have to go back down to the main bar.
