Everything was excellent. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff, as well as very efficient. The apartments were gorgeous - spacious, very well maintained and comfortable. The balcony (with table and chairs as well) - a definite plus. The apartments only seem a bit sparsely furnished because they are so roomy. In fact you will find everything you need. The beds were super-comfortable and clean, the clothes closet quite spacious. The kitchen was very convenient - this was the feature that attract.
all reviews » There are so many excellent things about the Apartments, but it would be difficult not to mention first of all the location. It is 5 minutes from the station and the Cathedral. Normally that would sound warning bells as many hotels close to city centre stations are in seedy areas. This is not the case here; the neighbourhood is a pleasure to walk around and entirely safe. The staff are extremely friendly, efficient and helpful. The apartments are very spacious with all the facilities one needs. Everything. After booking I found a review which mentioned the 'retirement apartment' aspect in a negative manner, I considered changing but we decided the location was too good and to take a chance. I'm so glad that I did - everything was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and spacious, kitchen spotless, bathroom ideal, location couldn't be bettered, I could go on. I've stayed in four star hotels which didn't match up to the Residenz am Dom. Highly recommended. The gym is very good equiped. The laundery (self-service) is for free and in very good stand which is very practical for journey longer than a week-end. The staff is very helpful. Do not hesitate to ask. The location is 7 minutes walk from the train station and at 2 minutes from the cologne cathedral (dom) : this is perfect. The facilities are large and designed to feel relaxed. The only surprise is to see in fact the apartment thar are for rent are whithin a pension for old people . Othewise i. It does share space with elderly housing but that did not bother us at all. Would definitely stay here again!. The place seem to be for the elderly, the rooms are okay the good thing is that the rooms are spacious. The toilet is average. this is not a hotel, these are serviced appartments. The tiny coffee cups are simply not enough for people who like to drink tea (or even larger amount of coffee, or cocoa). I also had to buy a non-stick pan, because the one that's provided is not appropriate for making eggs or lighter meals. I really did not mind, since I saved a lot more (including healthwise) by eating in, but providing that would not hurt. The only thing that I would suggest to management is the option to pre-order milk/bread to be in room on arrival - having said that there is a small convenience store on the premises. Not very comfortable couch for extra-person. Every day at 6 in the morning they take out their garbage loudly enough. Garbage station was exactly under our windous. Every day at 7 in the morning Dom's bells ring instead of alarm-clock. It's better to go to sleep earlier. I saw two wood-louses in my apartment. I saw spider's web in some corners of the ceiling. The appartment itself was a bit old-looking, especially the floor. Small desk and light in the bathroom was not totally fit for shaving. And the elevator is set at very low speed. A little noisy. Free wifi for only one device per room and any additional very expensive. There is no room service for breakfast. Wifi is for one user only!. I didn't like just one thing - our appartment was on a very noisy side of the City.... The fact that the previous user of our apartment did not wash up cooking equipment properly (not really owner's fault just inconsiderate previous tenant) and I had to re-wash things before we could use them. Stairs only lead to fire escapes so had to use lifts up to room instead of climbing stairs. Free wifi in rooms would have been good. Make sure you ask for an extra key if you don't like lifts: doors in each stairway are locked. No refills on free coffee. No air conditioning, and loud street noise in the early morning. Even cheaper then nearby options, the parking is expensive and a little confusing. The beds were not attached to each other, so they kept moving, being hard even to read in bed. Parking at 20e a day seemed a little high but it was well secured and very safe. One thing that would be good to provide is washing powder for the laundry, e.g. in a dispenser - it is excellent to have laundry facilities, but finding washing powder and reading the German packets is not easy for travellers. (Also, the instructions omit to say that the washing machine can only be opened when the dial is turned away from Aus.). What's not to like here?. Kitchen quite basic: would have been improved by the addition of a microwave. We need to pay for coffee bag inside room It seems no enough staffs for room service. nothing. there were emergency call buttons in the apartment - and it might be a good idea to have better identification of these as we inadvertently activated one late in the evening!!. Nothing, we thought it was ideal for our thee night visit. The bathroom is big but not comfortable. The whole floor get's wet and there is nothing to sweep the water away. Nothing, maybe staff need some smile. No free wifa in the room, expensive parking 20euros after 12hours per day, restaurants closed very early. Nois from the street, appartment a bit sterile. Shower is not very comfortable but I understand the reasons why it's designed like that. Not enough pots and pans for coocking when we arrived but maintenance staff were fast to bring us extra items free of charge. The slow lifts. Parking was expensive. One user for access WIFI only, it is not convenient for two devices. There was a problem with return back reseved money. It shouldn't appear in the hotel this level... Wifi is quite slow but stable. No A/C in summer time. The floor of the bath room is not smooth and it caused ponding when someone took a shower. Shower in bathroom needs to be more powerful TV poor for English channels. beds were a bit firm for our taste. Internet fees... Nothing serious. Choices for breakfast are modest, but food itself is good. Price. No microwave oven in kitchen. Beds were not as comfortable as I am used to, only quilts, prefer sheets and blankets. Terrible internet - very slow. lifts were very slow.
