The most informal hotel I've ever stayed in, they succeed in making guests feel relaxed and at home. Very helpful and friendly staff would also suit lone travellers. Very warm in cold weather,with great background music from dawn to dusk ( bedroom was however quiet),god vibe in bar and lounge and reasonable prices too. Great food,breakfast and dinner it's hard to tear yourself away. Superbly located for berlin's transport system ( similar to London tube map). Would certainly recommend it.
all reviews » Really excellent location opposite a Metro station and very close to the remnants of the Berlin wall. Quirky hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Room design was excellent - beds are in a loft section of the room. The downstairs cafe of the hotel is very welcoming with sofas and cushions and good design features. The breakfast buffet was very good. All in all an excellent hotel that I would definitely recommend! Obviously cool and hip as most of the men had beards!!!. The place with outstanding atmosphere-we found it due to Baumeister magazine recommendation. This hotel is a great fusion of eco-design,simplicity, sense of humour,initimacy and "young power" of both - the staff and clients. Big Lebowski would love it...It was our first family stay in Berlin /I traveled with my husband - an architect and 17 years old daughter/ and Michelberger will stay in our memory as the icon of the city. Staff was super great, we were able to get a late check-out and an early arrival. Location is excellent, right next to the station, short walk from East Side Gallery (Berlin wall). Close to the bars, clubs and small restaurants (Friedrichschein, Kreuzberg). Really liked the atmosphere and all the small details. Design-hotel for sure. I would highly recommend it and would stay there again. The design of the room was amazing. It was designed as a loft, so a lot of open space. Only the toilet was in a separate room. This makes it suitable for couples (because there is only a glass window pane between the bed and the shower, for example). Free liquor, brownies and water upon arrival. Amazing bar downstairs, though no noise hearable in the rooms. Simply reading the reviews and not looking at the pictures made a complete surprise out of me entering my loft room. Sleeping at the top bunk felt extremely comfortable, while the room blanketed me from the harsh winter cold outside. The over-all design felt very young and positively eclectic, and not over the top. The bar area was great- loads going on, warm and cosy, good drinks. The breakfast buffet was also good value and had an excellent range of food (breads, meats, cheese, eggs, fruit etc). Very close to u/s bhan yet quiet at night. Walking distance to lots of good bars. We had a family room with a sleeping-loft, and it was great. Spacious, cosy, fresh, inspiring. Kind of bare and clean but with nice details to make it cosy. Even though we didn't hang out there, the lounge/bar area was very inviting, cosy, relaxed and personal. This hotel is wonderfull, I love everything. The staff is wonderful, the room are perfect and the food is great. Location is also perfect, you have the trains 1 min from the hotel and Friedrischein is 10 min walk away, we just loved this part of Berlin. The Michelberger is the perfect place to stay in Berlin. Nothing!. The only thing I would change are the prices of drinks /might be slightly lower.../. Only negative thing was a really small room! But we didn´t stay there that much, so it wasn´t a big deal. And a see-through shower could be an issue if not traveling with a (good) friend!. no airconditioning. Breakfast at 11euros (outside of the room rate) is not the best option available. We picked a mezzanine room but the ladder up to the bed (which was 2 singles rather than a king) was a nightmare, especially during the night. Room pretty small. Bit hot- had to open the window. A bit to dark by the mirror. The doorknob to the shower door was loose. Nothing;) Everything is perfect. That we had to come home!. Annoying 'bouncer' type guy on the door getting funny about us eating curry wurst. Nothing. nothing. There were little amenitities in the room, and no traditional room service/ reception service etc. I had contacted the staff before our visit to organise champagne to be put in our room for my boyfriend's birthday, but this didn't happen as promised. Our view wasn't very good (over a rubbish tip and O2 arena). The rubbish tip was noisy for a lazy weekend morning!. Room was a little too warm- difficult to control the temperature. The rooms get very hot, although they do provide a fan. Temperature in my room. I feel a little bit hot. No fridge in the room. Wifi was weak. The bar staff could be very slow at times even though they weren't always busy. A very small point though!. The stairs in the room to the bed. Hectic :-). nothing....everything was great!. A little cold in the rooms (we we´re there in wintertime). The pillows. nothing !. Nothing!. Nothing. People being very loud in the courtyard in the middle of the night (only happened twice though). Wifi problems when I stayed there. Nothing. Superior room for 4 people, only one drinking glass. Wifi had lot of access points and one worked, others didn't. They have a great hotel/hostel for young cool people but they are too cheap or too stupid to provide great Wifi and internet... it's very difficult to get online with their idiotic nonsense passwords and stuff...change your provider and make it easy to get online.... nothing. The room was a bit small and it was not very comfortable having the glass window in the bathroom. having a voucher for wi-fi access. Bathroom shower had a see through window. Not ideal for mixed groups of friends. a bit noisy in the mornings. Noise outside (garbage station). Music for breakfast was a bit invasive The stairs to access the mezzanine were not very secure for people with little health problems. The cleaning lady nocked and ENTERED my room 6 (!!!) times, when there was a Do not disturb sign on the door!. nothing. Smallest two person room really is a small one, so if you are staying longer and have bigger suitcases with you - take the bigger room.
