staff were friendly and helpful location is great close to all the main attractions, most within walking distance, but a very quiet part of the city. we were in room 27, 1st floor opposite end from the hotel entrance. ok the hotel is somewhat dated, but ignore the old fashioned fixtures and fittings and you have a decent sized room, which was always kept clean, the bathroom, although small, was adequate, and again clean and tidy. the bed itself - big and comfortable-, and we had a ceiling fan w.
all reviews » We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Buchan Hotel. It is small, quaint and well kept. It's close proximity to Stanley Park was what initially caught our eye and we weren't disappointed. The staff was most accommodating...allowing us to check in early...(we had a very tired child with us) It is exactly as advertised...it's not your high- end, corporate hotel...so it suited us perfectly!! Some tranquility in the city! Thank all of you at the Buchan for a wonderful stay!!. The location is just great - either for shopping an Robson Street or sightseeing all over Vancouver! I went jogging in the Park Sunday morning - just perfect - and then out for breakfast to the Cafe Milano, right at the corner of Haro/Denman! The rooms are very clean, staff is friendly, it´s a nice neighbourhood, very green and calm! Old fashioned, but all you need - just no escalator, so come with light luggage! I loved it and I will be back!. I like that the hotel was built in the 20's and still has a little bit of that charm. The beds were very comfortable,rooms clean and a good size,staff was really nice, clean rooms and shared washrooms and in a really good part of the west end with all the locals. Quiet respectable and simple. its not really a case of things we did'nt like, more a case of being aware that there's no lift so if you have heavy luggage its down to you to carry it upstairs. The only thing I would add to the rooms would be a small fridge. Walls were a little "thin". Fortunately most guests were quiet and considerate. If I was striving for a complaint I guess the water pressure could have been better. Wi fi had to be paid for separately. There was a strange smell in the hotel room (perhaps they use too much of an air freshener?) No breakfast is included. Our room was SO hot!!! It was cool everywhere else in the hotel and outside (even though it was summer) but our room was horribly hot and did not cool down all night. I wish I had had the sense to ask for a room change right away but I thought it would cool down. coffee could have been better ... the quality of local coffee is much higher than what was at the hotel ... but this is just a little thing!. The mattress (room 48) needs replacement, could feel the springs No elevator, a bit of a struggle to go to to the top floor if you have heavy luggage. ( Although we did get assistance from the staff lugging the suitcases up to the room. TV didn't work despite complaining every day and numerous attempts to fix it - might have expected money off stay but not offered. Very noisy neighbours in room next door. No power point for hair dryer in bathroom and only one in room not near a mirror. The room was small and their was no in room safe. No bad points at all. Nothing. I knew what I was getting in advance, so there was nothing I didn't like for what I paid. Third floor room, no elevator. It doesn't make the most of its fabulous building. The renovation is ind of Motel 6ish. A bit of an investment in detail would go a long way. The price is right, so you have to understand that the décor is tired, plaster needs patching, etc. Not much at all. Was perfect after a long international flight. small bathrooms few tv channels no wi-fi. 1)Small room( it was the last available on the busiest weekend of year).2) Parking. Pay for parking ($10 a day). could've done with a fridge. slight smell in room, small windows. the doors were really hard to lock or open. No in room refrigerator, no air conditioning, had to be buzzed in after 11 pm. Rooms were pretty small. nothing. bathroom not entirely clean: old shower curtain with mildew. Hard to connect to wifi from room occassionally. Needs painting!.
