I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in mid November. I have seen people raise there eyebrows when they learn this hotel is situated in Tenderloin area (which is considered a bit shady area). I too was reluctant to stay there but post my stay I experienced that it was not that badly located. Means this hotel on eddy street which is very near to Van Ness road (Just a block away). So when we walk out the hotel just go toward van ness street, immediately you are out of tenderloin. The bus stop is j.
all reviews » Staff is very friendly, location of the hotel is very good, just 15 minute- walk to market street, also if you have car, car park is very good and also there is a door between the car park and the rooms for the security(it's openned by the reception). The area is not secure especially at night but there are two routes which you can reach at the hotel, one is more secure.(the lady in the reception has explained us more secure road). Considering the hotel prices in San Francisco, the hotel is pre. The hotel was Near all the attractions we were out their too see, near by Walgreen and food (chines restaurant, kfc, Italian restaurant with a $15 large pizza with bread stick and 2 litter soda special) secure premises and free parking friendly staff. It's in a bad area if you plan to spend time their but if your like us and are their as tourist and 49ers game, your in prime location, we had a car but if your walking your close to the Bart (Bus, ect.) I like the place so much that I ask the lad. This hotel was great. Loved the location-super close to union square and japantown. Lots of restaurants nearby. Clean room with a nice little Asian lady at the front desk who was very helpful with recommendations of what to do in the city and gave us accurrate walking directions. Also, free parking on site. I would definitely stay here again. P.S. don't listen to people who say the hotel is in a horrible area. Yes, there are bums nearby but if you mind your own business and take a good walking. San Francisco is an area that you will be out and about all the time so you don't need much in your room so stay here I spent $297 for 3 nights as opposed to the $1400 it would cost to stay at Fishermans Wharf, Taxi was only $14. I admit it was a shock at first after staying at the Bellagio but realised what a saving this place was. They even give you a thank you gift when you leave some Ghirardelli chocol. The Motor Lodge is very good, we felt the second floor room safety, clean and quite large, reception lady Jane was very helpfull and told us where to go and where not to go. Free safe parking is exceptional in San Francisco. The Tenderloin area itself was a little strange because of many homeless , better use Geary street to walk to downtown or bus, the stop is near to M-lodge. The location is perfect to leave any direction by bus or by car. We liked it!. I stay in a lot of hotels cause I come to sf for 1-3 nights a week pretty much almost all year round so I have stayed at most of the places that are $125 or under. This is the best place in that price range inasmuch as you will get a clean, safe place to sleep and relax, the rooms are large, and there are no bedbugs which I have seen at all the other hotels in this price range - the Red Coach is clean. I have stayed at the Red Coach Motor Lodge for the second time within 6 months. Again, this place was simple but clean and very affordable. WIFI is free is works pretty well in the rooms. Parking is FREE which is a major plus in San Francisco. It takes between 10 and 15 minutes walking to Union Square which was perfectly fine with me. The owner of the place was very friendly, she helped us out a lot with where to go to and which areas to avoid. The place was also very clean and well taken care off. Clean sheets, towels and a clean room and shower. The place wasn't very noisy either, apart from some street sounds. It's also felt like a safe place to stay. Ms Jen, the owner, is a very kind person. She helped us with everything we needed. The localization is no the best (Tenderloin) but it was no problem for me. Just ignore the junkies on the street, don't walk towards the place where they stay (Ms Jen will tell you) and don't leave your bellongins in the car. You're fine. Love love love the Red Coach MotorLodge. It's totally a great value, the rooms are clean, and it doesn't have bed bugs which is more than I can say about most of the other hotels in this price point. The staff is super attentive and sweet. They really took care of me above and beyond the call of duty! Totally recommend!. I will only stay at the older motels with aisle/private balconies, refuse to stay in motels/hotels without them, or places where you can't even open up a window! To me, this is a 5-star facility! Close to everything, lots of restaurants nearby. Can't wait to stay there again when I return this summer!. The hotel is in a good area close to all the fun specially to the pier 39 and cruises to the Alcatraz.The area is pretty calm not too Many noises at night.Room was really clean, it provide clean towels on many sizes.Money was worth since the area wasn't ghetto like other streets we seen in our vacation. There are many homeless around the hotel and we heard many voices up to 2 A.M. at first night we stayed in. It was a pretty scared but if you choose the correct route and dont have a direct connection with them, no problem. Because they're everywhere, not just nearby the hotel. Also, no breakfast option in the hotel but there is a place just accross the street and its breakfast is pretty well. We done it in both morning we stayed in. Little noisy surrounding, sleep well with earplugs. It's all actually really great. If the location was closer to city center or something, that'd be better but having a clean, safe place with no bedbugs is my highest priority. The area (the "Tenderloin") is a little dodgy...but I had no issues walking around during the day or at night (although sometimes you really wander who is hanging around on the streets...). The neighbourhood wasn't too good, but if you stay on the main roads and avoid the area directly south of it you'll be fine. Upon arriving there, the owner will tell you exactly where not to go and which roads are safe to take. Is not the most super luxurious place in the city but renovations take money and they offer a clean and safe place to over night at a very reasonable price. I wouldn't change a thing. Despite the hotel situated just in the cultural center of sa, the area a pair of blocks from the hotel to the east could be not very safe at night, don't go there. Fire trucks use Polk St, not necessarily awful, but when you don't live in a city "city noises" make it difficult to sleep. The heating in the room could be better. Not for me but if you are chilly kind of person it could be cold for this time of year. No complaints about the hotel, but would advice anyone staying there and going on 4th July to Fisherman's Wharf to watch the fireworks, be prepared to have walk the don't know how many miles back to hotel, as streets blocked off ten blocks from the Wharf, and very few buses which are full.......... So just avoid 4th July.... Otherwise ideal situation of hotel. Nothing to dislike really. A good price for a city hotel. Pretty busy corner, there is indeed some traffic noise. But probably not in all the rooms. *No fridge or air con, but not a problem when we have been there in spring and autumn - may be more of an issue in summer *can be noisy - rough area nearby and on Eddy between lodge and Union Sq- *internet times out every 20 mins. Room was spartan, and seemed old and tired. Many homeless people around the hotel, but it is not a hotel minus. Area around the hotel (Tenderloin) is a bit dodgy but we had no issues whatsoever. Neighborhood edgy to East. WiFi to upper floors spotty at best. Would have liked in-room coffee. Not able to make coffee in the room. Not enough pillows!!! But thats a personal need!!. The drug culture around the hotel. From other reviews we took that the area would be fine if you were used to any big city in the world. I think that's stretching it a bit. Didn't feel in danger perse though. The shower head wasn't the best. Rough area, you would not like to be on the street after dark. Room lacked amenities such as fridge, clock, ironing, aircon, microwave. No fridgertor , better comforter. Tv a little on the small size. The room was a good size but a little sparse. Pictures on the wall would have brightened it up. Being logged off the Wifi every 20 minutes or so. Neighborhood, as others have noted, especially as you go east one or two blocks. However, the motel itself felt safe. A lot of noise from people running around late at night yelling and acting peculiar.....hard to sleep real well. wifi wasn`t working very well. Free Wi-Fi available, but it logs you off about every 10 minutes. It uses a webpage authentication instead of WPA, which is less secure, and times out. I stay here almost every week now so I think it's safe to say that I love the place. I'm not aware of any negatives. Bad neighberhood, edge of Tenderloin, can be noisy stepping over homeless, still I was not bothered by anyone but you need to be aware and not get involved with any street people . Parking is tight. No directory of TV channels. No breakfast, the area this hotel is in, looked a bit unsafe :) but only at night :)).
