- Location!! Walking north you´re in Chinatown. Southwards are all the designerstores you can imagine and Union Square. Going east you´ll stumble upon lovely restaurants and bars (even possible to sit outside!). Just across the streat is a Starbucks cafe and an minimarket! - The rooms are small and a bit outdated but clean. Staff very helpful and let us leave our bags there after checkout until early evening until we flying out. Very clean and big bed and plenty space in the room. Shower in bathroom great pressure and nice and hot. Would recommend for short stopover, certainly not luxury but adequate. The location was great. Right at the Chinatown gate, an easy walk to the piers. The $4 breakfast was better value than a café (juice, toast, bagels, boiled eggs, cream cheese, tea & coffee) and the wifi was good, but only available at two locations. The whole place is old, but clean. Excellent central location, a few minutes walk from Market Street, Union Square, Chinatown, Little Italy, the cable cars etc. This hotel is run by a friendly and helpful Chinese family, a nice change from some of the soul-less hotel chains with somewhat sullen staff. EXCELLENT VALUE, great location...basic rooms but what more do you need??? frankly we loved the big open windows and the old style fashion of this hotel...we'll stay again and definitely recommend it!. The noise from the street below was not a problem as I had ear plugs and could still hear the violin playing across the street - a nice touch. Yes it is outdated and it smelled a bit funny, but it's clean and you're in a safe and nice neighbourhood in SF. Perfect location to go sightseeing and enjoy the city. The elevator is old and the ride a bit bumpy, but it's checked every year so it should be safe (we felt safe anyway). Keep in mind you're in the citycenter, so there will be traffic during the night. It didn't bother us, but bring earplugs just in case. Decor a bit tired, just needs update. Didn't have plug for bath which would have been nice after a long day shopping. Water in shower took long time to drain away but not too much of an issue. This is an old building on a very busy street. The windows are single glazing and don't hold out any of the noise from the traffic, bars and people on the street below. Ear plugs are essential if you are to get any sleep before midnight, but if you are in San Francisco to party you will have no such worries. unfriendly folk at the desk...one nice guy but the others were scowling and somewhat rude loud bed that sounded like it was wrapped in plastic when you turned over...kinda funny but definitely annoying. It was old (but not in a good way) and I felt as though it was dingy not dirty though. I just made sure to wear socks or flip flops. Pillows were flat. There was not air circulation (i.e. fan or ac unit). Traffic noise. Would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in room- or even in lobby. everything is fine, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would definetely stay again. My friends top mattress kept sliding off. Mine was fine. Staff was not very friendly. the television is old and don't even have a remote contro. No wifi at every floor. nothing. Old, no coffee, no wifi in room. No Wifi in room. There was an awfull smell in the room, we had to buy an air freshener. The safe in our room was broken. furniture, decor and bedding very tired. Bathroom should be renovated. beds - very discomfortable, probably the worst beds i ever sleep at; the window were not able to close - very noisy from the street, poor parking facility, smell in the room and in corridors. Needs refurbishment. Change windows as main on the to-do list. Drinking Water Supply. No a/c, had to leave the windows open for ventilation and the room fill with mosquitoes. The hotel is very run down and is desperate need a face lift. Also, the bathtub did not drain well so you are standing in 3 to 4 inches of water while showering. Also, there is an extra charge on my account for $26.00 which I need to call about. No matt inside the bathroom, the odor of the room isnt nice. No air con. It was creepy. I'm sure there were bloodstains on the sheets and the t.v. was about 30 years old with no remote. The floors were weak. Bed squeaked, towels were yellow and the single-glazing made trying to sleep really hard in city traffic (and I can normally sleep anywhere!). Smell, decor, bedding, lack of ac, particularly humid and raining when we arrived, which is a healthy combination for mosquitoes, but literally couldn't sleep for having to slap them when buzzing around ears! Generally not a nice place to stay, even if it's just a base for when you arrive to sleep in before going out all day as we did. room smelled of urine. not well maintained. The furniture was very old and peeling. The dust bunnies under the bed were disgusting.
