I checked into Grand Hyatt in Dec2013. I was pleasantly surprised by how big the rooms are; at least, twice as big as any other hotel that I have stayed in for a price around $400. The rooms are extremely good in terms of maintenance and all the facilities that you would expect of Hyatt. The property is brilliantly located in Manhattan with hundreds of restaurants, bars, road-side eating options. It is bang in the middle of great shopping destinations. We didn't use the restaurent or breakfast facilities preferring to eat out . The style and comfort of the room, which was excellent. Excellent service from the staff. This was 2nd time staying in this hotel...very happy each time. We got into New York early in the day ( around 10:30) and were Able to check in very early at 11am. Would come back when staying uptown in the future. the most quick checkin ever - not even 2 min, Great location, spacious room - we had club room on 36 fl, comf bed, big bathroom /for ny/, club lounge breakfast good quality, all very clean and new , well & modern furnished. We were offered a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival and free coffee vouchers which was an excellent start! Check in was seamless. Concierge couldn't do enough for us - extremely helpful. All staff we met were excellent. The location is fabulous, right next to Grand Central Station. Staff was very helpful with all questions and recommendations. Food was good, although pricey, but it's NY and you expect to pay a lot. The hotel is next to the Grand Central Terminal which makes its location central to many attractions and tourist areas. The room did not have a full-length mirror. None. heating system - a/c- would prefer classic heating or floor heat. On trying to use the restrooms then cleaner was vile and rude. I was told to leave the bathroom and the cleaner refused to tell me where another restroom was. The attitude was disgusting and ruined my stay. The elevators are slow especially in the morning!. Confusion over booking, charges to account without confirming, (not an error) but still charged before check. Very busy hotel, very busy lobby, doorman not very helpful, rude bell boys and silly charge to hold luggage not expected from this hotel. Some rooms have view on the nearby building just in two meters away.. So you don't see the sunlight at all. Ask for the room with cityview. no coffee making in room. Thought it was a bit mean that we had to pay for a glass of wine in the Club Lounge. Not come across this before in other club lounges. I booked a 4 sleeper for myself, my wife and two kids with letsbookhotel.com. On arrival I was given a 2 bed unit. The hotel was full and I was only accommodated on the second day. Apparently, there is a "glitch" in the booking system between Hyatt and letsbookhotel.com in that certain info is not transferred across. I was told this by the general manager of the hotel. Young folks partying in their rooms after midnight. Nothing. no free internet in the room the size of the room. Charge for inter-net. Not having tea and coffee making facilities in room, but the vouchers did help. Could improve pillows. Washroom and amenities. Washroom too small, quality of amenities can be better, now is 3 stars quality. Having to pay for internet. Small rooms and no coffee maker. Bathroom design...POOR. Small sink under marble sill which makes the sink impossible to use for everyday brushing of teeth and washing. Must have hit our heads a dozen times on the overhanging lamp in the seating area...any standing up person hits it. NO coffee maker in the room means no coffee while getting ready....BOO. $75 dollars to valet park. Private nearby parking garages were comparable. I would think being a guest of the hotel it woud be a little cheaper to park Some issue with the pipes in the plumbing kept me up all night..very loud and noisy. No coffee or tea making facility in room. No water supplied. The carpets in the passages and in the rooms were not cleaned properly and had stains on them which is unacceptable for a hotel of this standard. Am lot of the staff we came into contact with appeared to finf guests a distraction from talking to each other. Shower didn't work and it took 2 days to get fixed. i found the room not up to a clean standard (1638).the floor and two mats were covered in fluff and small bits,the top of skirting board in the bedroom and bathroom were covered in a deep fluff.the floor needed hovering and the corners of room needed cleaning.for the cost of room i felt the cleaning standards poor. Bathrooms are too small. The room proportion, bathroom is rather tiny and did not have the quality as a Grand Hyatt. we stayed twice in a two week period first room was ok but small on the second visit our room was not very clean and there looked like a coffee maker left in the hall way for all of the time we were there.the cleaners must have walked passed it every day .dosnot show a good attitude. very dissapointing view - there was none. very busy, chaotic lobby. the heat system did work poorly.It was very cold. They did not do the rooms because of the snow, terrible excuse. Everywere else everything was working. we could have gotten breakfast free, as compensation. Could hear people in other rooms and as doors heavy closing , had to sit in lobby for free wifi most hotels these days have in room even our tour coach did. price was a cheat. Very dirty. Help your self hotel No hospitality. The bathroom was dirty - hair on the floor; stained toilet. The pillow cases were dirty - had makeup on them. Worst of all, the room was freezing. I had the thermostat up to the highest it would go - 80 - and the room would not get warm. I called to change rooms - no answer. I called for maintenance - never came. It felt like I was outside. I could not sleep I was too cold. Awful experience. staff unhelpful, charge for internet, for leaving a bag, their only interest in the guests is fleecing them.
