What people say
the hotel was great, breakfast was one of the best we have had, we had dinner there the first night and was amazing 3 course plus tea or coffee all for £19 +free bottle of house wine, the staff where very friendly and the room was great no complaints about anything. We had an unusual situation (disability) - chose a room for easy access. There were problems with room heat and hot water so the next night we got a different room that was very good in all respects. All the staff were helpful and pleasant to deal with.all reviews »

Quaint rooms full of character. Great breakfast. The staff were very friendly and always happy to help. The rooms were clean an spacious. An excellent location for a mini-break or weekend in York with the added bonus of the hotel being situated within walking distance of the main central attractions.Breakfast was lovely. Staff were really friendly and accomodating. As a solo traveller with a baby they bent over backwards to help. The bar staff and reception, remembered we had stayed previously, and were just as friendly and accommadating as last time.Stayed at the Newington as in York to see Paul Carrick at the Barbican - staff could not have been friendlier, room clean. very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel within walking distance of city.very good food. good location with frequent bus servic into centre of york. Friendly staff. The hotel facilities were very good and so was the helpfulness of the staff although we do think that the rooms were quite basic. We think that there is room for improvement with the rooms. Staff were friendly and professional. Hotewl was centrally located within easy walking distance of the city centre. Staff friendly and helpful. Bus stopped right outside the door and ran every 10 minutes into the centre of York. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms comfortable and warm.the space in the room was really good, good selection of biscuits!!!. We have stayed at this hotel before so have no complaints about it. The restaurant was excellent service and good value for money. the four poster bed . the nice friendly dining room .Walking distance from the City Centre. location was 5min walk to town center. parking available, easy to find. The swimming pool was enjoyable. room clean bed comfy food good. ease of access to city centre. Welcoming and friendly staff. Location and price. Food and company. location. pool. Pleasant staff. The staff were friendly and helpful. Off road parking in well lit car park. I would stay there again.Close to city centre. Staff very helpful. Our first room needs help. their was a stag party staying very noisy as our room was above the bar. Give it a little street appeal. The nosie from the cars but not a ploblem has I had ear plugs. we only found the problem on trying the shower (no hot water). The pool is good, but not heated or tepid so be ready for icicles.Outdated decor. . room was on top floor, wife is partially disabled, and would have preferred to not have to use so many stairs. Some of the decor and fittings were coming to the end of their useful life and gave an impression of shabbiness which was a shame as the standard of cleanliness was high. The pool was too cold for the little one.The television in the room did not work. Mattress was not very comfortable . It was middle September and the heating wasn't on. It was a bit chilly in the room early evening so had to go to reception and was given a heater. Other than that everything else was fine. Decor was somewhat dated and the cooked breakfast was of a poor standard. had a old musty smell as i walked in. the window's in our room ,rattled and where very draughty .the noisey guests that come in at 4 o'clock in the morning without any consideration for others. Decor in bedrooms a bit dated / no cable tv. traffic noise if the room faces the road. Rooms could do with a freshen up, hairdyrer did not work in room.Decor tired. Style old fashioned. Had to pay for cooked breakfast I didn't want. To use the sauna it cos an additional £5.00 and checkout was 10.30am which is quite early and breakfast finished at 9.30am which is again really early and therefore we missed it.
