Everything from the greeting from the staff at the reception to the layout and the quality of the room was excellent. Hotel is in a great location and as the building was a former period university building all the rooms will all have slight variation in layout and views! For the tall.... Beware there are a few " mind your head" areas dotted around the hotel too!. A comfortable hotel in great location ten minutes walk into centre of town but still quiet enough in the evenings.Attached bistro and wine bar underground was excellent and very easy when staying. Great selection of wines. Staff especially attentive and helpful -we recommend this one.

Superb city, hotel is in a great location walking distance to all the sights, shopping/resteraunts. Really lovely Hotel with character,we had a standard room at the back of hotel, which was a good size with French doors.Very nice. Huge room with rolltop bath in the bedroom, walkin shower. Separate loo and sink. Lovely Miller Harris toileteries. The room was at the top of the hotel so was really quiet. Would definately consider this hotel again. Well located for all Cambridge sights. Superior room was large and well appointed (but watch your ankles on the corners of the wooden bed!) Staff friendly and helpful, and always available. This was not our first stay and our previous experience encouraged us to come again. The service was very good and we were pleased with our room - it had character and plenty of room. The rooms are always gorgeous but the service was brilliant this time - the restaurant and bar could not have done more to help our group have a wonderful time. The Front of House staff were great. Minor observations would include overspray from shower finding its way onto the floor necessitating using all the bath mats to soak it up! But apart from that very little!. Not much. Generally a bit expensive but I guess worth paying that bit extra. Lack of onsite parking (valet parking £18 a night). Hotel's claim to always have cheapest online rates is untrue - I rebooked through letsbookhotel.com saving £40 over 2 nights. Always double check!. We were up fairly early and it was disappointing the find that at 8.00 am the water was only tepid. Lack of speed/quality of service at both breakfasts. Lack of imagination on the dinner menu (the HdV dinner menu seems to have been the same or similar for some time now). Apparent focus on only- expensive wines. Unavailability of English Sparkling Rose, but advertised on wine list. Not a thing. Everything was perfect. Heating in the room was difficult to control. Some traffic noise. I cannot say I didn't likely anything about it. nothing. My room was overlooked and yet there was no double glazing and nothing on the window to ensure privacy when curtains open during the day. This is an expensive hotel and yet I felt the decor of the rooms was a bit sterile. Attic room - sloping ceiling and leaking shower. We had to wait for one of the three rooms booked as it was still being cleaned some time after check in time and only after I complained were we offered complimentary drinks which should really have been offered immediately However the staff on reception were very helpful and polite. Smell in hall (damp old smell) Cooked breakfast tasted as if used very old fat may be related to smell in hall. Nothing but could there be a frequent guest deal ?. The breakfast was not good value for money- toast not toasted, one egg cooked, the other one runny, and not worth the money. Nothing. Could have done with two soaps in bathroom. No concierge to take your luggage upon arrival. Dismissive staff serving breakfast. I had to ask three times to be served crossoiants and was told to just make do with a soup bowl to eat cereal. The bistro could do with more serving staff at breakfast so that staff could be more attentive to visitors. No space in Bistro for residents on Saturday night due to function. Reserved tables for some "company function" in the bar which meant residents of the Hotel being moved out of the bar!!!. Lots of noise outside our room from quite early on. An irritating lack of shoe-cleaning material in rooms!. Room Service took a long time and they could not fit us in for Sunday Brunch. Toilet did not flush. The walls very thin, you can hear everything going on outside. Waiting time for breakfast. Cost. The room was rather small, especially for a Deluxe room. One had to sit on the bed for the other to pass and ironing clothes was a bit of a nightmare. The cooked breakfast was poor. got stuck in lift with aged parents for half an hour. asked before we went if suitable for the elderly and was told yes, but it wasn't. dispute about fathers bill. it was resolved but shouldn't have happened. Wierd set up in room and traffic noise. Expensive. The AC cannot be adjusted in my room. When I complain it to a staff, they said they will fix it and after two times the temperature is still a problem. Public rooms which were few were generally not available to guests which was annoying. Room on the front had quite a lit of traffic noise . 7 am Saturday was woken by refuse truck emptying bottles ! Book a room at the back. Unacceptable wait for main course at dinner. Having tried to book on the phone and told the hotel was full I went online and booked straight away.The decor was very tired, worn out and needed a new coat of paint. The bar staff rude and disinterested in any kind of service. The room was ridiculously small for the amount of money and no breakfast included and some very condescending staff in the Bistro. Ordinary buffet for Breakfast Excessive noise outside the back of the hotel, prevented sleeping. E-mails urging upgrades No parking, meaning £18 per day fee.
