All aspects of the experience were great. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room, though slightly small by US standards, was clean and well appointed. Breakfast was included and was good with variety. I would recommend Hotel Washington to my friends and would stay there again. Everything. We loved the room with its balcony and breeziness. Very convinient location if you intend to visit the museums or Concertgebouw (5 min walk). To get to the hotel from the Railway Station take tram 16 or 24 (15 min ride). Mind this: the staircase is steep.The hotel was an older canal-style home that had been converted to a hotel . Dennis, our host , greeted us with open arms and made us feel welcome . The room was on the top floor (4 story walk-up) and had a small terrace . The room we stayed in was in the basement which wasn't mentioned in thebooking - this meant it had tiny windows, no view and smelled a bitdamp.There were no facilities for making tea or coffee in the room andthis was not available from the hotel outside of breakfast.

Information about the area

Hotel Washington is set near Museum square, the biggest square in Amsterdam, surrounded by important museums such as the Rijksmuseum, which is the country’s national art museum, and the Van Gogh Museum, dedicated to the famous Dutch artist, not forgetting the royal Concertgebouw, the concert building. The square was reconstructed in 1999 and in winter it hosts an artificial ice-skating area.

The young, trendy and multicultural neighborhood called De Pijp is also at five minutes from the hotel; here it is possible to visit the picturesque Albertcuyp market and the Heineken museum, and there is plenty of nice, original shops, cafes and ethnic restaurants for all tastes.

By Plane:
There is a shuttle service from Schiphol Airport to the hotel (Connexxion Schiphol Hotel Shuttle). The service is active from 06:00 to 21:00.
You can take a train from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Central Station in about 19 minutes. From the station, you can take tram number 16 or 24 to the hotel and get off at the Ruysdaelstraat stop. From here, it is just one minute's walking distance to the hotel.
