We stayed there as my friends were celebrating their wedding there onthe saturday. The staff could not have been more courteous and helpful.The food served at the wedding reception was outstanding - 5 star foodand service. They went above and beyond for everyone and I could notfault them. By far the best wedding venue I have ever been to. Relaxing and enjoyed the break. The barman made the best Irish coffee I have ever tasted. Excellent.

Children don't seem to be so welcome. Allowed in restaurant only until 7.00 pm and in pool only until 6.00 pm. We could deal with it, but were irritated nevertheless.Service was slow in restaurant. The bathroom. Did not get a chance to avail of spa so cannot comment. Overall I felt the hotel was extremely expensive as have stayed in more luxurious surroundings for less. Had a friend join us for dinner and we did not order any wine as even the starting prices were incredible. There was only 1 robe provided and there was a used cotton bud on bathroom floor. Not given or offered the wedding rate. Would benefit from air conditioning, it was especially hot in the breakfast room but also found much of the hotel too hot. Lights went in the room at 10pm and were not fixed by the time we left. going to the rooms thru the bar area was a bit strange; very little toileteries in the bathtroom.Bathroom needs to be updated. The shower lacked power.Bathroom looking tired. You were suppose to be able to check in after 2pm. We went to check in at 4:45pm and our room was still not ready. We did not receive our room until 5:15pm, which was very disappointing.The rooms are very tired looking and could do with with a soft refurbishment ie. rooms need to be painted, bathroom re-tiled and upholstery on chairs was quite worn and dirty. Bar area was a bit lacking in atmosphere. The room was far too hot and no air conditioning, I asked for a fan and was given a room heater and told to set it to the 'cold' setting... entirely unsuitable, the iron was clamped to the ironing board and almost impossible to use, and why the hell was there a bath in the middle of the bedroom?. The original house was simply the entrance... all the rest was an addition built about thirty years ago. Needed a bit of a facelift.The shower flooded the bathroom each time it was uased. It was extremely difficult and dangerous getting in and out of the bath/shower. The fairly light feature on the wall was nice but only half the lights were working. I thought the hotels location was not great, the staff were on the whole very polite and tentative but on dealing with my complaint I felt less happy.Bedrooms are dated. Decor dull. Bathrooms were shoddy - cracks on walls, broken tiles on floors.

By Car (from Cork Airport):
- Travel down Airport Hill.
- At the Airport Road roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Farmers Cross and the N27.
- Follow the N27 to the Kinsale roundabout. Take 4th exit onto the south ring road - the N25 East.
- Once on the N25, take the 2nd exit for Douglas, ignoring the 1st exit marked for Douglas West.
- At the traffic lights, turn right.
- At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit, travelling straight ahead.
- At the traffic lights, drive straight on, until you reach a 2nd roundabout.
- At this roundabout, take the 3rd exit off the roundabout (Douglas golf club is signposted).
- This is Maryborough Hill; the hotel is situated up the hill, on the left-hand side.
