My friends and I booked this hotel as an overnight stop before visiting the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington. Having recently stayed in a number of so called high quality hotels (including one in Park Lane, London where most of the staff were rude, it took 20 minutes to check in & 20 minutes to queue for breakfast), The Minster shone above the rest. All of the staff were friendly, polite, helpful and smiled. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for any of them (in particular Stuart who I . all reviews »
I loved the fact we were made very welcome by the receptionist on arrival, a very pleasant girl who recognised us from last year when we stayed there. Also the lovely, pleasant man who I think was called Graham took us to our room which was on the top floor but had a 4 poster bed and was a lovely room, he also worked in the restaurant and he and all the waitresses were very friendly and attentive. Our electric went off the following morning after a fuse blew and we reported it to reception who c.
We received a warm welcome as soon as we arrived. We arrived early but we were able to park our car whilst we went shopping in York, returning later when our room was available. The Minster Hotel is literally five minutes away from York city centre so very convenient for shopping. Our room was spotlessly clean, the bathroom was pristine. Our room was very comfortable indeed and warm. Every member of staff we met were welcoming and polite. The breakfast was very good setting us up for the day! B.
Both my husband and myself was very impressed with the Minster Hotel in York.
As soon as we arrived the reception area and receptionist was lovely. very friendly and very helpful. We had wonderful stay the room was very stylist in the Decor and en suite looked recently done lovely. All the staff was really nice at breakfast or any other time of the day. breakfast was excellent. We have been coming for weekend or short breaks in York for more than 10 years now as we both love York as a cit.
I choose this hotel because I got a very good deal on it. I was spending a lovely of couple of days away christmas shopping with my mam so the hotel was mainly just a base as it was near to all the shops. However i was pleasantly suprised how lovely the hotel was and the staff that ran it. The rooms spotless and very warm and cosy, a little too warm as I Had to turn the radiator down! Better to be too warm than cold! The breakfast was very impressive and was more than enough to choose from an.
The friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff I had dealings with ,
the situation, size and furnishing of the room as also a well equipped
bathroom and extremely comfortable bed. This was an exceptionally
comfortable and pleasant stay and I did not feel penalized apropos room
size and quality as is sometimes the case in hotels if one has booked as
a singleton and is alone . The car parking was also a useful facility
which weighed with me after a long journey
. Above all though the outstandin.
On arrival we were greeted by a lovely and friendly member of staff. The car park was free and we were able to leave the car in there all day during our checkout day. Room was big, lovely décor and the bathroom was clean and newly fitted. We were pleasantly surprised to find we were given a room with a four poster bed! Breakfast was freshly prepared with a big choice. I enjoyed a full English, cereal, toast and a cuppa while my other half enjoyed a large bacon sandwich! The waiting staff were a.
The Minster Hotel is well named because its only very short walk to York Minster itself. Very close to the Walls and the centre of Medieval York. The staff are great, friendly and helpful, the room is comfy, cosy, and well appointed. There is free and easily accessed parking. Free wifi which worked in our room even though they said it would only work in the public areas. The breakfast was fabulous. Everything continental with a wide range of cooked delicacies from the local area. Just great.
Highly recommended. An easy walk from the railway station of about 15 minutes (for this pensioner). Car park at rear. A short walk along Bootham to the Cathedral and city shops beyond.
Charming and helpful staff at Reception and in the Breakfast room. Breakfast freshly cooked for you. My room smartly designed and well furnished. There are ground floor bedrooms, some above accessible by a lift, some not. Those with mobility problems recommended to specify their need when booking.
Warm welcome on our arrival. We requested two rooms next to each other which we goy in a lodge at the back of the hotel. These rooms were simply fantastic, beautiful decor and immaculately clean. Breakfast was delicious and catered for all tastes and it would be impossible for anyone to leave hungry!! All staff are pleasant and can't do enough for you. Would definately recommend this hotel to anyone as apart from being a perfect hotel, it's only minutes away from York Minster.
Lovely modern room, great location, free parking, friendly staff, great
breakfast, just a few hundred yards to the minster. Very handy for
getting about York. I was also given upgrade to room with 4 poster bed
in it which was a lovely surprise and an addition to a romantic break
away with boyfriend. I will always look at booking this hotel above
others when going to York. Really can't find fault with hotel. This
was my 4th visit to hotel. And have already booked my 5th!.
The staff were very welcoming and let us check in early so we were able to make the most of our time in York.
Car park was an added bonus!
Breakfast was great and the staff were always checking back to make sure we were ok etc.
Bathroom and room were lovely, big bath was good after a cold day as it rained a lot during our stay!
Staff were willing to recommend restuarants and give directions etc very knowledgable about the area!
We would definitely go back!.
The staff were all excellent, friendly, attentive and catered for our every need, nothing was too much trouble, even the bizarre requests at breakfast for green tea, decaff tea and scrambled egg whites didn't faze them!! The reception area was really welcoming and the bedroom size and furnishings all great. The location is perfect, far enough away to be quiet, close enough to walk to all the main attractions in the centre.
the staff, well what can i say, they where so friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble, always happy and polite, our room (rm 1) was a double and was surprised to see a 4 poster bed which was so comfortable, the bathroom was lovely, overall very spacious, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay we will be going back, thats a promise, thank you to all the staff at the minster hotel you do a fantabulous job :-) xx.
We have just spent three nights at the Minster hotel and loved it. It
was just a short walk to the minster and a little further to the centre
of York. Breakfast was super with plenty of choice. The staff were all
very pleasant. Car park at the back of the hotel was very handy and left
the car there for the whole of our stay. Excellent value for money and
would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
We love staying at the Minster and this time was no exception. The staff are welcoming and the hotel looks lovely following refurbishment. Our room was immaculate and the bathroom although small had a great power shower. The breakfast is fab and the staff waiting on extremely friendly and attentive. Great parking too. For us, the MInster makes our stay in York extra special.
My wife and I stayed one night whilst I was on a business trip to York. Our room was in a recently converted building in the rear courtyard away from the main building. The room was comfortable, clean, with modern furniture and a large en-suite bathroom with a separate enclosed shower. The breakfast was very good, staff very courteous, and overall impression very recommendable.
The location of this hotel is exactly right, far enough out of city for quiteness but close enought for walking access. The staff are all very friendly and helpfull. The towels supplied are of best quality (thick and fluffy) not like the thin ones at some other hotels that wouldn't dry a fly. Special mention of the breakfast servers who make the start of the day a pleasure.
My daughter and I found the hotel to be perfectly placed for York city
centre. It was very comfortable and the staff were very accommodating.
We found the gentleman that took us up to our room and subsequently
served us at breakfast and in the bar very pleasant, helpful and
friendly. Unfortunatelywe did not get his name but I would like to find
out what his name was please.
The Staff were really friendly, and polite. They carried the cases up to the room, nothing was too much effort or trouble. I wish I had found this Hotel years ago, I am looking forward to returning. The Breakfast was Great, plenty of choice and high quality produce. The Room was comfy, clean and with a good size TV.This has to be the best place I have stayed in York.
From the moment we arrived the staff were fantastic - very friendly, helpful and could not do enough for us. We chose this hotel because of the location which was excellent for all the sights. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Overall I thought this hotel was excellent value for the money paid. I have already booked again to return in March.
We liked the really helpful staff always friendly the two girls at breakfast where excelent The free car-parking, although we didn't use it on this occasion. The hotel is in a great quiet location with no noise at night unlike most city centre hotels in York. The breakfast was good and cooked to order. Towels etc where white fluffy and plentiful.
The location is excellent so close to the city walls, York Minster and the centre. A real plus is the car parking facility and the hotel allowed us to leave our car for the day after check out. We had a room at the rear away from the road which was very quiet. The room was comfortable. Breakfast was good with good service.
The Minster Hotel was within five minutes' walk of the walled centre of York - the staff were friendly and welcoming, bedroom at the back of then hotel was quiet and comfortable. We didn't have dinner there - but the full English breakfast was great. Service quick and pleasant - I'll definitely go back there.
The room we had was fantastic, rm 34, felt like we had out own little lodge with own front door from outside. Very luxurious. The staff were all very friendly, breakfast delicious and just 5 mins walk from city centre with their own car park to leave your car. Perfect hotel for a perfect weekend in York.
Room clean and has obviously been updated recently. Bathroom excllent and shower efficient and easy to operate. Ventilation was good......there was nothing to fault the room or the general bed and breakfast experience. Location excllent for the centre of York and no problems with parking, access etc.
From reception to departure we had a most splendid time. It's location is ideal for seeing the sights, shopping and access.
We certainly will want to go there again.
We were not disturbed by noise, found the facilities clean and a room with a four poster-bed was the icing on a delicious cake!.
Its location and ample parking are a massive bonus. You can leave your car there even after you have checked out and collect it later.
Staff were very helpful and the area is very quiet. A great hotel within 5 minutes of the Minster. So get it booked for a nice city break in Gods own county.
Everything was fantastic, from the staff / welcoming, to the facilities available. The location was ideal, with the hotel being based 2-3 minutes walking from central York, along with on-site car parking. Despite being in York, the price was fantastic, and was value for money at its best!.
The car parking facilities! Staff always friendly and informative - they
took time to treat us all on an individual level. Great rapport -
quickly responsive to questions and needs that arose during our stay. A
repeat stay that wasn't disappointing and we look forward to our
next visit.
Everything about the hotel was A1. From the extremely helpful / friendly staff to the comfort of the hotel. Cleanliness was without doubt very good, food excellent. Close to the city centre made it ideal...We will most certainly return to the same hotel when visiting York in the future!.
Staff were friendly and helpful, location was great you could Ee
Easy walk into York, plenty of car parking, great security, great breakfast selection continental and cooked breakfast options. Rooms were clean and tidy and a good size. Would definitely stay again and would recommend.
The staff were so lovely. The room was spotless and very comfortable and well equipped. The hotel was 5 minutes away from York Minster and the shops/bars.Breakfast was lovely.
One of the added bonus's was a free car park at the back of the hotel. Definitely coming back. Thankyou.
My room was beautiful and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel
gives easy access to the old city and the hop-on-off bus was just around
the corner. The front desk staff were so helpful when I needed
information about services like a nearby laundrette and shopping centre.
small hotel, with a friendly feeling and helpful staff. Breakfasts good, room pretty and clean, good beds, modern bathroom. Little extras, like cookies each day with your tea was lovely.
Easy to walk to all shops, museums, and restaurants. Excellent place to stay, good value!.
We thought the hotel was excellent in every way--very well
run, spotless, excellent locally sourced breakfast with friendly
cheerful staff. We will stay again and recommend it without
hesitation. Also it is very well situated within 400 yards of the old
town and has a good car park.
The location is superb, just a few minutes walk from York Minster. The
staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel let us park our car a few
hours before check-in and we left it all day after check-out. The
breakfast was lovely and the room was comfortable, if a little warm!.
Excellent location for all the local sightseeing spots, carparking available behind hotel, really friendly and helpful staff-answered all our questions and gave us directions when needed. The room was spacious and clean. All in all a perfect hotel for our weekend away.
Extremely friendly and polite service. Were given an upgrade to suite with 4 poster bed. Clean and comfortable. Bathroom clean and modern. Free parking and close to town center shops and minster . Very good breakfast . All in all very impressed and happy overall .
The room was lovely and very clean, breakfast was great and the staff very helpful and friendly. Location was perfect and it had a good size car park where they were happy the car be left even before and after check-in and out. Would def recommend and stay again.
the staff were very friendly and helpful, with local knowledge and advice on York and what is going on ,the food was very good and the room comfortable ,the hotel is situated in an ideal location just a short walk to York minster and all of York's attractions.
The staff were friendly and efficient and there was a good atmosphere in the hotel. Room was bright and airy and car parking arrangements are very handy. Very well located with only a very short walk to the city walls and Minster. Overall a very pleasant stay.
Staff mainly.... all very helpful and friendly...food very good....bacon sandwiches a hit! ......the nearness to the Minster....good restaurants near by......parking behind the hotel...good looking hotel ....liked to have stayed longer.....will next time....
Great location to town, no need for taxis. Good car park. Within walking distance to all the sights. Very friendly and helpful staff. Large room, very clean. Breakfast selection fab! Fry up brilliant.
Overall very pleased and would definitely visit again.
Located 2 minutes walk from the centre, everything within easy reach. Staff were amazing. Breakfast was lovely and staff couldn't do more to help. Room spacious, extremely clean.
Absolutely perfect would certainly recommend. Will definitely stay here again.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left all the staff treated us with warmth and were very welcoming. The room was large with great colour co-ordination. The bathroom was very modern and spacious. Great breakfast choices and very attentive staff.
The location was perfect for access to York, the Minster and shopping areas in particular. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. The breakfast area and food were excellent. They were very helpful in moving us from one room to another.
what stood out the most about this hotel was the friendliness and helpfullness of ALL the staff. The room was very clean, and the breakfast was beautiful!! You couldn't ask for a better location as it was only 5minutes walk away from The Minster.
We have stayed here a couple of times a year for several years. We see the same staff year after year, so unusual these days. They are all so helpful, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast is terrific, cooked to order. The car park is a real bonus.
The hotel has an excellent location and secure parking. Staff are very friendly and we couldn't fault the breakfast. After checking out, we were able to leave our car in the hotel car park for as long as we wanted on that day, which was a bonus.
There is nothing at all we could possibly say that is negative apart from there were no lifts for people with walking difficulties. This, however, did not bother us being on top floor but I can imagine some people would complain.
Nothing.
nothing we didn't like.
The cooked breakfast was disappointing, the bacon was brittle and hard
and greasy and the other items though ok were very standard -no kippers
or smoked haddock. The boiled eggs with soldiers looked nice and I
should have plumped for them instead of the bacon and egg with quite
horrid fried bread which was soaked in grease as if it had been deep
fried in dubious oil! I think the decor in the public ares was a bit
dull though not dislikeable.
The car park was very tightly packed but it was free unlike other hotels, so can't really complain. It was also fully booked which probably explains the full car park!.
A long hall to the third floor via multiple flights of stairs with a very loud creaky top flight.
Nothing disliked. I enjoyed my stay and would certainly return.
There's nothing I can find fault with!.
The weekend was too sort!.
Sound proofing in room 32 is not great. We had a family above us the first night and boy did we know it. Also, the carpet needed a good steam clean in the bedroom, there was an odd smell in the bathroom and the shower was not great for a tall person.
some windows are single glazed so may let in the cold, or be noisy if at front of the hotel, but i think i read that they are looking at sorting that out, nothing major at all to say really.
Twin beds might have been better for us, as the mattress had lost its
firmness, hence it tended to dip towards the middle.
On more than one occasion we have been given a double on the 3rd floor. Although this only poses a slight problem, it is a trek up those stairs (no lift). The view of the Minster from our bedroom window (with a slight crane of the neck) was worth it. Next time (and there definitely will be a next time) we may request a lower floor. No other complaints whatsoever!.
Nothing! However, the main hotel building is quite old with a number of more recent extensions and I suspect that the original rooms do not have the same level of modern interior that we enjoyed.
Not one thing.
The adjoining corridor was a bit smelly with the Drains, but that could be due to all the heavy rain and may be unavoidable.
Nothing.
The hotel lets itself down with little things like mould on the window and scuffed walls and paintwork. The bathroom was clean but the tiles near the shower needed a good clean as the grouting was stained with shower gel etc a little off putting. A shame in a lovely friendly hotel.
The only thing was the exterior corridor to the bedroom block which smelled of damp obvious from the stain in the ceiling. I am surprised this has not been fixed long ago.
Nothing to dislike about the hotel - and York is fantastic at any time of year.
Nothing.
Nothing.
Creaking floorboards.
The breakfast could have done to be a little hotter. However, there was plenty of food and coffee was always topped up frequently. So not really a dislike.
We can't fault our stay on any criteria.
There was nothing I disliked but I think that the Hotel would definitely benefit from a restaurant. Going off the breakfast, I would definitely eat in the restaurant at night.
It was a bit noisy at night because my room faced onto the street
leading into the city so there was quite a bit of traffic.
Nothing really Toilet seat was wonky but a bad design and fixed quickly
when asked.Water took time to run hot but this is being fixed by
installation of a pressurised system soon.
Nothing, I would definately stay there again.
There was nothing I didn't like.
Nothing of note.
Nothing.
cold in the corridors...wi-fi connection not good in the rooms....loo seat design to near wall... therefore leg burning against the towel heater so you have to sit uncomfortably diagonally ....9 inches to the right and that would have been fine ( room 28 ).
Bed was a bit hard. No extra blankets in room. Noisy floorboards.
Our room was located in the eaves, Room 12. We had to climb 55 stairs, the last 12 were very steep, so not suitable for mobility challenged guests.
We were originally given a room on the front of the property which in on a main road, very noisy all night and not double glazed. We asked to move and were relocated to a room at the rear of the hotel which was perfect, quiet, comfortable and well appointed.
Nothing at all!.
There is nothing to dislike about this hotel. Rooms/bathrooms have been nicely renovated/modernised, so that it's three star rating is more than deserved.
