The staff that were there were excellant and could not do enough for us.. Its situation to york was fantastic only a five min walk. The staff member we dealt with at reception was very friendly, helpful and always willing to help at any point.Service was brill, bloke was very friendly and helpful. Friendly staff. We were allowed to leave car in secure park for duration of our trip (before and after check in) Room was clean and comfortable. Shower was nice and powerful. Breakfast was delicious. Only a short walk into town. .

Not given a double bed, not served promptly at breakfast and didn't haveit explained - parts seemed to be self-serve. Staff overworked and couldonly do so much. Difficult to park in space allocated as carpark full,drafty downstairs - lots of doors and windows open. The bathroom,although clean it was very small.a possible health andsafety issue. Rooms where small and need and need refurbishing bably. Room decor was tired; lighting very dim; plumbing very noisy. Breakfast was well over priced and cold everyday of our 3 night stay. Cheap and rubbish sausage which we ate only because we were hungry and felt ripped off. Tiny en-suite and rubbish shower that felt like it was going to cave in, hard to regula. The breakfast supply of food, bread, butter, cereals etc was minimal and guests had to keep asking for more stocks! Weird place that I wouldn't go back t. Our hotel room was not cleaned during our stay. The bed was never made and clean towels never provided. The bathroom smelt a bit and the toilet did not work properly.we didnt think that there was enough staff on duty especially diring breakfast time, breakfast was not up to a very high standard. The room was filthy and shabby. All staff were obviously students employed as part-timers with the consequence of a lack in proffesionilism. No overnight staff member on site - so a lack in security as well.not enough space and a formal complaint has been submitted regarding several issues see above, several issues on HandS and Fire regulations. Attitude and actions of staff, compfort the list goes on.

Our cosy bar and lounge offers breakfast, light snacks and drinks. Our breakfasts are all cooked freshly to order, mostly with local ingredients. We also offer reduced breakfast prices for children up to 11 yrs old: £4.50 for a Full English and £2.50 for a Continental breakfast. Naturally, lighter options are also available and vegetarians are catered for. Our drinks include a selection of local beers. For a great meal, there is a wide choice of restaurants and bars within just a few minutes walk, catering to all tastes.

Important information to guests

In the case of group bookings the property requires one person to be personally responsible for the conduct of all guests in the group, and any damage caused. They may also require a 'good behaviour' bond along with payment in advance. For the benefit of all guests, in the event of persons behaving in an inappropriate manner, the hotel reserves the right to immediately cancel the entire booking, without refund. The building is set over four floors (no lift); ground floor rooms are available on request when booking. Please note parking is subject to availability, due to limited space and run on a first-come, first-served basis.

Travelling information

By Car:
- We are located on Bootham (A19), approx 0.5 miles from the city centre.
- Look out for a footbridge crossing the road - we are close to this, opposite a very old school building.
- Our car park is at the rear of the property, and accessed from Burton Stone Lane (this road has the 'Burton Stone' pub on the corner.)
- About 30 yards along Burton Stone Lane, you will see a large car park on the right-hand side. Enter this car park, and go through the gap in the back right-hand corner. Our parking is in the numbered spaces.
- Parking is first-come, first served. In the event that our car park is full, there is free on-street parking nearby.

- Be warned that the city centre contains pedestrian streets and one-way systems. For this reason, we strongly advise using the York Northern Ring Road (A1237) and approaching from the North. Coming into York along the A19 from this direction, (signposted 'Rawcliffe',) we are about 20 yards before the footbridge on the left-hand side.

By Train:
To walk to us from the station takes about 15 minutes. On exiting York Station by the main entrance (with the taxi rank), turn left. Follow the road past the Royal York Hotel and cross straight over at the traffic lights. Go straight on and through the gate in the bar walls (city walls). Turn left and cross the river. Continue straight ahead to the next set of traffic lights. Turn left and continue to the next set of traffic lights. Turn left again into Bootham and walk until you see a footbridge crossing the road. We are on the right-hand side.

A taxi from the station will cost about GBP 5.
