Imagine a place where the boho chic of New York's East Village meets with the glitzy cosmopolitan self esteem of London's West End - and somewhere in the maelstrom, you will find Manchester's Canal Street - situated alongside the Rochdale Canal, as the name would suggest. Velvet Manchester has been instrumental in, and indeed integral to Canal Street's Cafe Society for more than a decade, maintaining its place as the Village's premiere venue to eat and drink, chill or party as the mood takes you, amidst the ever changing and evolving social-scape of this unique and exciting destination in Manchester City Centre.

In March 2009, the addition of the chic 19 bedroom Velvet Hotel, occupying the four floors above the Bar & Restaurant, will take things to a higher echelon, offering individually designed luxury bedrooms and balcony suites.

March 2009 sees the dawning of a new era for both Velvet and the Manchester hotel circuit, as Velvet sprinkles its unique chutzpah and creates the plush 4 Star Velvet Hotel. Hotel stays will be taken to an opulent new level for business and leisure guests alike. 19 fully air conditioned decadent boudoirs, individually designed with the utmost of tender loving care, will comprise all of the things you would expect of an exceptionally high standard of Bedroom, airy Balcony Suite and lavish Duplex Suite - digital TV, complimentary Wi-Fi access, in-room safe, bespoke tea & coffee making facilities, fully stocked mini bars, plus some things that you might not, like iPod docking stations, in-room cocktail and canapé packages and lovely Burt's Bees toiletries. Careful detailing and distinctive design elements will ooze from every crevice, creating a contemporary feel with a twist, and coupled with attentive yet understated service with a smile. A choice of Continental or Full English Breakfast - all locally sourced and with a few Velvet curveballs thrown in for good measure, will be served in the Velvet Restaurant on basement level.

The cancellation deadline is 15:00 (see the 'Cancellation' section for day). Guests booking Party Packages may experience noise at night due to loud music played at the bar. Upon check-in you will need to provide a payment card for pre-authorisation for the room rate, plus an additional GBP 200. Cash payments/deposits are accepted when accompanied with valid photo ID. The hotel reserves the right to refuse entry if these terms are not adhered to. Please note, the property may contact you after the reservation is made to provide payment information and instructions for check-in. Guests are required to show a photo identification and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply. Please inform Velvet Hotel in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation. A damage deposit of GBP 50 is required on arrival. This will be collected by credit card. You should be reimbursed within 7 days of check-out. Your deposit will be refunded in full via credit card, subject to an inspection of the property.

King Rooms are by no means standard, each offers at least 200 sqft of wonderfully decadent individual design, incorporating en-suite bathrooms and king or over-sized king beds, with exceptional quality bed and bathroom linens. Each room has its own rich personality, offering guests either their personal favourite on a regular basis or something different every time they stay.

The jewels in the Velvet Hotel crown are the Penthouse Suites, all of which offer at least 285 sqft of ultimate luxury and wonderfully decadent, individual design to the highest of standards. The abundant spaciousness of each Penthouse Suite is utilised to its spectacular best, with an additional mezzanine level for reclining in over-sized king beds, plus large, comfortable living and dining areas on suite level for working or entertaining. Both suite & mezzanine levels have large screen plasma tv and fully stocked mini bars for comfort and convenience. The en-suite bathrooms are adorned with separate baths and showers and feature double sinks with exceptional quality bathroom linens.

From the Airport:
Exit the airport and take the M56 motorway. Keep in the right hand side lane and follow signs for Manchester City Centre. At the end of the M56 motorway, the road turns into the A5103 Princess Parkway. Stay on this road and keep heading towards City Centre. Pass Asda on the left hand side and then at the end of the road / roundabout take the 3rd exit up onto the A57 Mancunian Way which would be sign posted Stockport / Sheffield. Exit the A57 at the A6 turn off – but take the sharp left following the signs for University of Manchester (keep in right hand side lane). Go up to the traffic lights and go straight through onto Sackville Street. Follow Sackville Street, cross over Canal Street and then turn first right onto Richmond Street. Velvet is located at the top of the street on the right hand side.

From the South:
Follow the M6 and exit at Junction 19 after Knutsford Services. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A556 headed towards Manchester Airport. At the end of the A556 roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the M56 heading towards Manchester Airport. At the end of the M56 motorway, the road turns into the A5103 Princess Parkway. Stay on this road and keep heading towards City Centre. Exit the A57 at the A6 turn off – but take the sharp left following the signs for University of Manchester (keep in right hand side lane). From the North:
Follow the M6 or the M62 and head towards the M60 motorway. As you merge onto the M60 motorway keep heading towards signs for Liverpool M62. Exit the M60 for the M602 heading towards Manchester City Centre and Salford. Take the M602 to the end where it turns into the A57 heading Manchester City Centre / Sheffield. Go up onto the A57 Mancunian Way which would be sign posted Stockport / Sheffield. Exit the A57 at the A6 turn off – but take the sharp left following the signs for University of Manchester (keep in right hand side lane). Go up to the traffic lights and go straight through onto Sackville Street. Follow Sackville Street, cross over Canal Street and then turn first right onto Richmond Street. Velvet is located at the top of the street on the right hand side.

From the East:
From the M1 or Sheffield regions, head for the A629, A616 or the A628. Take the Woodhead Pass and keep following the signs for Manchester. At the end of the Woodhead Pass follow the signs for Manchester City and enter the M67 heading towards the city. At the end of the M67 follow the signs for the A57 Manchester City Centre. Near the end of the A57 cross over the roundabout and follow signs for city keeping Esso Petrol Station and Tesco Express on your left hand side. At the next traffic lights go straight through. At the next traffic lights go straight through and pass under the Mancunian Way. At the next traffic lights turn left onto Whitworth Street. Go through the first traffic lights and pass Sackville Park on the right hand side. At the next traffic lights turn right into Sackville Street. Follow Sackville Street, cross over Canal Street and then turn first right onto Richmond Street. Velvet is located at the top of the street on the right hand side.
