Beautiful hotel with a lovely view of the hillside, quiet location yet close to the city centre. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful. Dinner was good although not a vast choice over the two nights. We will stay again. Everything. The staff were really welcoming and friendly and go out of their way to make you feel relaxed and cared for. Thank You everone at Holyrood for making our valentines weekend magical. We will be returning and recommending.

There was some mold in the shower, but the staff attended to this promptly.£20.00 valet parking a bit expensive. paying to park my car at a top hotel. a bit far out. The suite in which I was in had two single beds pushed together which made it uncomfortable to sleep in.Although a "mini-bar" is advertised, this is just two warm bottles of water. I was expecting a fridge which would have been handy. A mini-fridge is the only thing missing from my experience. Breakfast is good but overpriced.Dirty carpet in room, small tv and broken bulb in bathroom. breakfast too expensive. Wall socket at bedside was old fashioned, 3 prong rounded, and lamp didn't have an on/off switch. Apart from that everything was very satisfactory. television was down very low and the remote would only work if you held low to ground and pionted at telly. Channel guide said they had sky sports 1 but couldnt fing the match on saturday morning on any station. The room was very cold. The breakfast is too expensive, so I skipped it. The weekend before my stay, I was in a 4* hotel in the centre of London which charged only £15 for a breakfast (or £12.50 if booked in advance) so think the Macdonald hotel must be serving golden eggs to charge £17.50 per person, in Scotland.the lighting was exceptionally poor in the room. the tv was so low on a stand on the flloor it was very difficult to view. Public areas slightly tired furnishings..........Breakfast a bit pricey but nice if splashing out. Shame not included in room rate. Presented as more of a 3+ hotel rather than a 4*hotel. No hair dryer in the room, no "Fluffy Dressing Gown and Slippers". Wouldn't have been happy had i paid the full price of the room. More attention to detail would help.Extra £20 car parking charge. Trouser press in room did not work.
