Edinburgh Metro Youth Hostel is located in the heart of Edinburgh old town and is in Edinburgh University’s Cowgate halls of residence during the summer holidays. Edinburgh Rail Station is just 700 meters from the hostel.
The famous Royal Mile, which is popular with tourists and runs through the centre of the old town, is just a 3-minute walk from the hostel. Edinburgh Castle is less than a mile away and the historic Grassmarket, a market square which dates back to the 15th Century, is less than a 10-minute walk.

It has a good location, in the city centre, very easy to get to the shuttle bus that goes to the airport, near the hostel there are some nice bars with live music. You live in the room alone and share only shower, toilet and kitchen.
Edinburgh Metro Youth Hostel is at the best location of the city.The main monuments are at walking distance.The bed rooms are very clean and calm.The staff was very cooperative and friendly.I recommend for the traveler in future.all reviews »

The staff were great, really helpful and nothing seemed to be a problem, despite the fact that I kept making new last minute bookings to stay on another day!.

It was clean, cheap and cheerful - I was only staying a few hours as I missed a connecting train after my flight got delayed, so I didn't really get to explore the facilities!.

Trying to find the actual entrance in the dark when I was tired was not easy or fun, I had to walk around the back of the building between the building and railings for a site, it wasn't particularly friendly for a solo female traveller. Also there was a lot of noise coming from outside - I think I must have been backing on to a club or something, but it was extremely loud even with the windows shut!.
Difficult to find (I lived in Edinburgh for 3 years) - could do with more detailed directions with booking.

Trying to rest above a bar and in the middle of a building site.
Monday the cement mixer left at 7pm, the bar music was on till 3am Tuesday and the crane arrived at 7.30 am!! Impossible to have windows open due to dust.
The building works going on making much of the building/front area inaccessible, I walked past the cul de sac where the hostel was and had to ask somebody before finding it.
