We stayed at Dunstane city hotel during our business visit to Edinburgh University. Hotel is located in very quiet area and at the same time is in walking distance from city center. Rooms are very comfortable, warm and clean. Staff is very friendly. Hotel offers full Scottish breakfast free of charge, evening meals is delicious and not expensive. I liked everything about it, the room was fantastic,modern,superb, thestaff you could not ask for better, it was our wedding anniversary andmy wife said she would only go back to edinburgh if we stayed in thesame hotel. It was a great weekend I will be back.

For £99 per night was really impressed all round. everything was wonderful, the staff were very friendly and helpful,room was lovely, and our breakfast was most enjoyable,would stay again,great that the bus stop was outside hotel,and so cheap to travel by bus to city centre. The decoration inside is a very pleasant surprise. Our room was beautiful, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom super clean and all in all everything was pretty new and very well kept. Loved this hotel. The staff were absolutely great really helpful and I also liked thecleanliness of the hotel as this is my main priority in booking a hoteland with it being recently refurbished I think that added to it.Lovely room, clean and very comfortable. Whilst sitting in the city hotel garden we were approached by 6 young lads clearly on drugs or high on alcohol who challenged me for a fight calling me a posh bas****.The room didn't have a bath, but that was probably our fault for not requesting one at booking. Actually cant say i did not like anything about the hotel .there was not enough parking space for all guests, though you could park on a side street from 6pm till 8.30am for free. But far from convenient I'm sure you'll agree. Also had to dine at their other hotel across quite a busy road opposite our hotel. But the food was delicious. The pillows are uncomfortable!. Having to leave!!!. it was further from the centre than i usually like but a taxi was only £6 and the hotel was opposite a bus stop so no problem with getting in and out. This hotel was beautiful and worth the effort.Parking was a bit tight - eight spaces. But only a problem on the Saturday night when the hotel was busy. No room service, reception closed early. A lift would be welcomed. The only thing we didn't like was having to come back home.We were not happy about the fact that there was £99 taken from our credit card for the first night, we were only told this when we were checking out - have never experienced this before, this is something we should have been told when we booked in. Also, we had drinks put on the bill so are been taxed twice on this as it was included in the VAT??. Car park quite small but expected for a small hotel.The waiter who served the breakfast was confusing orders and brought us a wrong order. However, the breakfast choice was good. The wait for breakfast.No air conditioning, no fridge in room.

Dunstane City does not serve dinner but guests of the hotel can take advantage of the proximity to its sister hotel, Dunstane House's Skerries Restaurant and Stane Bar, which is located directly opposite.

Dunstane City has its own bar with a range of malt whiskys, wine and beers, as well as a garden conservatory, where you can relax over a coffee with a good book or the day's papers.

When the new owners purchased the property for Dunstane City Hotel, little did they know that they were, at the same time, reinstating a historical connection between the property and Dunstane House.

It appears that in around 1867 one Archibald Shearer, a music seller in Edinburgh who was living at Dunstane House at the time, “erected a house or villa (now known as Number Five Hampton Terrace) agreeable to the plan approved of by the Feoffers of Trust and Governors of George Heriot's Hospital.” History has now come full circle, as the link between Dunstane House at 4 West Coates and Dunstane City at 5 Hampton Terrace is revived.

Set back from the road on Hampton Terrace, a mainly residential area, the hotel is within minutes of Edinburgh's business and conference centre and city attractions. Its location is also very handy for Murrayfield Stadium, home to Scotland's rugby team, as well as regular big name stadium concerts. Edinburgh Airport is a straight and easy 15 minute drive from the hotel, while the city's Haymarket train station is also nearby. And for exploring further afield within Edinburgh, there is a regular bus and airport bus service from right in front of the hotel.

From City Bypass and the M8:
- Follow signs for Murrayfield on the A8.
- Pass Murrayfield Stadium and Roseburn shops.
- Follow the road into the city centre for about 200 metres; the hotel is located on the right-hand side, coming into town from the west.
