We are very happy to recommend this hotel which is a short walk (5-10 mins) from the centre of Tromso. We stayed in an apartment on the first floor (no. 16 upstairs I think) which was perfectly suited to our needs. The bed was very comfortable and there was sufficient space for two people to spread out all their winter gear. The kitchenette was well supplied with an oven, fridge, microwave and dishes etc. The staff were very helpful and you could make waffles in the reception area and help your.
all reviews » This is a really great place! We were a group of 4 friends spending a weekend in there. The first thing you notice is the extremely friendly staff ! there is also free coffee and tea at the reception and you can also make your own waffles during the afternoon. Breakfast was also great. The room was very clean and the location of the hotel is very central. The breakfast is diverse, healthy and plenty. The location of the hotel is good for reaching the bus stop(for the airport) or downtown. Coffee ant tea disposable all day long. The parking option at the hotel works great. It is very clean everywhere. In the apartment are great cooking possibilities and a very cosy warm atmosphere. I recommend them!. We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment which was warm, clean and well equipped. The bathroom had heated titles and there was central heating throughout. The place was perfect and centrally located. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definately recommend this apartment to others and will stay here again if i go back to Tromso. Very helpful and friendly staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there because of the numerous help we received from the staff, especially booking all our trips to see the Aurora, sledding with the dogs and reindeers,etc. It's a dream come true for us. We will use the hotel again. Many thanks. Room was simple and clean, no problems! The internet was good and fast (did a speedtest, download was about 3.3Mbps, upload was somehow 11Mbps!). Staff were very helpful and friendly with good english. Breakfast was simple continential but was tasty and plentiful. Good for filling up as much as possible to avoid Tromso expensive food!. Good staff. We had noisy neighbours and the night staff took immediate action to quieten them down. We slept soundly after that. Also I forgot a bag, and they called me, then organised a taxi to deliver it to the airport. Great service. Don't expect a five star resort. I wanted a solid, no-frills hotel, and that's what I got. The hotel has just been refurbished which meant that the rooms and the public areas were smart and clean but the biggest asset that the hotel has, is the staff. Every one was so friendly and went out of there way to help with anything. I would recommend the Viking anytime and will use it myself if I go to Tromso again. Hotel is very central to everything in the city. Staff were nice and helpful. Rooms are typical Scandinavian ie very small but cosy. Tromso is a lovely city but beware of the ice. Grampons are highly recommended. Just don't wear them indoors lol free tea and coffee and also waffles after 5 was a nice touch. I liked the staff, they were very friendly & helpful ! The studio apartment was very new looking, very clean & very equipped with kitchen items. It was also nice that the hotel lobby offered waffles,tea & coffee in the evening for a social event. Very nice place. Staff were fantastic. They were always super friendly, and would go out of their way to help guests at any hour of the day. Breakfasts were also great. And there were even free waffles in the afternoons which I thought was a really nice touch... Staff were really friendly and knowlegable and if they didnt know somthing they would look it up for you. Nice size living area with big flat screen TV and the cooking facilities were very useful. Comfy bed too. Walking distance to the MACKS brewery/pub. Short walk to downtown Tromso and the waterfront. The family room for 4 people was fairly large, clean and reasonably priced for Tromsø. Location is great, a couple of blocks from the very center of Tromsø. We liked a lot the free wafels at 5PM!. Only one criticism of our stay and that is concerning the pathway leading to our apartment entrance at the rear of the building. It was dangerously icy at times (made worse by rain) and the snow had not really been properly cleared. The management had put down grit but it was not sufficient to provide a good grip when walking along the path. I can't think of anything !. The single rooms should have some shelves or a shrank. In some mornings, the tables in the breakfast area should be supplemented with 1 or 2 more. Room was a bit small for 4 people plus baggage, but wasn't too bad. Breakfast is typical continental style. Don't expect a fry up ;) very small room. Just make sure you take plenty of cash as beer is very expensive as is everything in Norway as a hole. There is a spar shop near the hotel which is reasonable. There was a lot of ice from the lobby to where the apartments were, not well salted. Only thing that would improve the place would be some 'do not disturb' signs for the doors. Only a little thing I guess, but I was there to check out the northern lights, so was on a bit of a night-time schedule, asleep during the days, and it was kinda annoying that in the middle of every day the cleaning staff would keep knocking until they woke me up, just so I could tell them I didn't need a fresh towel. My room was next to the elevator. The was some type of structure outside my window that amplified the sound of the rain. Overall, it was just too noisy to sleep. all was great... Nothing. the bright blue standby light of the tv was like an x-ray beam in my eyes it was not the last room, but you gave me the least in the last edge. Rooms rather small. Breakfast only just about satisfactory. It's one of the cheaper hotels in Tromso but is still pricey even coming from London - but everything is in Norway. We stayed in a room on the top floor and it was slightly on the samll side. Narrow beds. House keeping just change the towel instead of a whole room cleaning. The bed was very comfy but even though the cleaning was coming in everyday the room was not cleaned (bed was made and towel were replaced but floor was still dirty and room becoming dusty. This time the elevator did not work. breakfast below expectation,. Old lift. Rooms a on the small is but normal for a budget hotel. The breakfast was not as rich as the breakfast we had from similar-price hotels. no room to have breakfast-we had to have ours in our room. staff need be more friendly and welcoming pls. Room was small Window didnt close, wind coming in. No hairdryer in the room. The beds were small and not particularly comfortable. Some rooms on my floor were being renovated ,so from 9a.m till 5p.m people working and making noise outside my room.My room was new,but windows were old, I was on the first floor, on central street,it was too noisy. For 150euros per night, there should at least be a hairdryer and a minibar in the room. Breakfast wad poor. Too expensive for what it offers. The room was too basic and the beds very uncomfortable. The hotel did not look at all like the pictures on the website and was very expensive for the standard of the public areas. Accommodation was fine but it is very expensive. dirt on floor at beginning of trip still there at the end. If you can try to stay somewhere else - this place is very old and needs complete renovation.
