It was in a perfect location, quiet but near enough to walk to all the main attractions. The hotel had a lovely ambiance, very traditional with friendly staff. Our room was perfect for us and our young daughter with lots of space and a nice extra bed. A bonus is the complimentary buffet breakfast and evening supper-saves a fortune is super expensive Oslo. Oslo is an incredibly expensive city for visitors. But the Hotel Gabelshus was a rare bargain. I loved the free internet, breakfast, afternoon waffles and dinner buffet and would certainly stay there again. The front-desk staff were charming and helpful ... and beautiful, too, which is a nice bonus!.

The hotel is situated very conveniently near bus and Tram routes ( end of the street) and is only a 10 to 15 minute walk into the centre of Oslo. The food was simply but a good selection of buffet style hot and cold foods. It was in the residential area near to the Vigiland where we wanted to visit. We had stayed at the Ritz Hotel in 1977 and visited the Gabelhus and said that if we ever visited Oslo again we would stay there and we did and we were not disappointed. We had a very short but pleasant stay.The Hotel is very good: near the Center, very confortable and beautifull room, fantastic breakfast and the attendant Mat was so kind with us. We do really recommend this Hotel. It was a great choice. Very nice everthing was lovely. Very quiet location. Pleasant terrace at the front for the (all inclusive) evening buffet supper. easy to get around the city. nice sauna. The room which I was originally given was tiny, with a bed that was too small for me to lie in. But this was sorted out in minutes at no extra expense. So I have no complaint.Beds were a little too soft for me. the bathroom was the smallest i have ever seen. Oslo is over priced, which means even the good value hotel was still expensive by any standard. The only thing missing was not having a bar area to have a quick beer.....although you could get a drink via reception.No air conditioning. Room was too hot at night, even with window wide open, (but weather was exceptionally hot.). bathrooms were smaller than small. Price by booking.com was sky high. We found out that the hotel chain offered it half price... However we were up-garded to a suite, which wasn't our intention during our stay... the smallest bathroom (shower room - no bath) I have ever experienced in hundreds of hotel stays.
