The location was close to everything in Centruum with a major tram stop minutes away. The guest service agents and restaurant staff were friendly. Very interesting European hotel with a lot of character. Room and bed were comfortable with excellent housekeeping services every day. Luggage check room was available to store my luggage since I arrived early in the the morning (7:30AM). The location was great (about 2mn walk to Centraal Station, right next to the shopping area, restaurants and bars, etc...), friendly and helpful staff, nice varied buffet for breakfast, quiet hotel considering the location (even on New Year's Eve!), all facilities provided in clean and cosy room. We will definitely choose The Avenue hotel again for any future trips to Amsterdam.
all reviews » Staff were friendly and helpful, bedroom spacious and light, the cooked breakfast was up to the expected standard (ie slightly dodgy - haven't found a good english breakfast outside of england) but there was plenty of other options that were perfectly good. and there was a beautiful little kitten playing with the automatic doors!. The Avenue is a good value hotel which is very close ot the train station and all the delights Amsterdam has to offer. There is also a good breakfast. All important for all English travellers who will be currentlu experiencing the consequences of a weak pound.clean, close to train station, good breakfast, honest and helpful staff (we left our camera in our room by accident and it was returned to us!), comfy beds. It was gorgeous, our rooms were very clean and the breakfast was excellent. We appreciated the luggage room to store our cases after we checked out.very good breakfast selection for all tastes, walking distance to most of the tourist sites and 5 mins walk from central station. Good central location, nice rooms, good value. I arrived very late - night porter/manager was most helpful.The staff were excellent and nothing was too much bother and they were always smiling. A mix-up on the bill, we were charged for a triple when we had a single but this problem was quickly solved when I produced a copy of the reservation.Wouild have liked toast for breakfast but only bread rolls and bread was available, no toast or toaster. small thing, it was impossible to keep water off the bathroom floor when using the shower. The room is really small... but it's enough for me. If it had been warm, the room may have gotten a bit warm; but it wasn't, so everything was just great.couldnt faault the accomadation. My room was in need of decoration the walls were strting to look worn and dirty.Bath in the bathroom is very narrow, it's inconvenient for big people. Although it was in a nice area it could be a little noisy outside at night.will be even better when air conditioning is completed and up and running. The room was a bit noisy.breakfast was not the best.... Bathroom at 6th level rooms need renewal. The only down side is the fact that they have converted the old bar area into a guest room so the bar is in loby area which is not so good. However the barman (Tobi) is a great host and the price of a pint in the hotel was a £1 cheaper than in the pub across the street which is always suprising. the hotel needs to give more detailed directions from train station. it could be tough for first timers in the city.The air conditioning didnt work so the room was very hot and stuffy, also it was a smaller room than we had on a previous visit, with no mirror in the room and no kettle as we had previously. The carpet in my room was somewhat stained and probably should be replaced. The room was small, typical of European 2 and 3 star hotels.can be a bit noisy if room faces street but that is pretty much inevitable I think. A simple shower curtain would be nice to keep the floor dry. The large bouble window/doors were a little hard to operate but not too bad.The bed was very hard. not for romantic vacations. Rooms vary much in size, cleanliness, available space, etc. Some appear to have been freshly renovated, some are quite old and overall quite dirty (especially the carpet). We were given one of these "worst" rooms (205), but we kindly ask the reception to change our room for a bigger one, also because the babycot took up some extra space, and we got a very nice room with plenty of space (210). there was alot of building work going on in the hotel during our stay,it didnt effect our sleeping but it was quite congested in the reception area,but im sure it wont last to long.

By Car (from Utrecht):
- Follow the A10 Amsterdam West S116.
- Follow the signs for Centrum / Noord.
- Turn left at the traffic lights into the 'IJtunnel'.
- After the IJtunnel turn right at the traffic lights.
- Drive straight on to the Central Station.
- The Central Station is on you right hand side.
- Turn left at the 2nd set of traffic lights into the Martelaarsgracht / Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.
- The hotel is located on the left hand side (number 27).

By Train:
- From Utrecht / The Hague and from the airport you can take a train to Amsterdam Central Station.
- From the front of the station you walk into the street on the right, where tram numbers one, 2 and 5 go into the city centre (Martelaarsgracht / Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal).
- After about 3 minutes you will see Hotel Avenue on your left hand side.

By KLM Shuttle Bus:
- From the airport you can take the KLM shuttle bus.
