A restored home of the 14th century, the Locanda De La Spada overlooks Venice's Grand Canal. The guest house is set on the top floor of Palazzo Contarin-Marin, in the picturesque Campo Santa Maria del Giglio square. The spacious rooms of the Locanda are elegantly furnished in silk, and feature an LCD TV with satellite channels and floors in Terrazzo Veneziano marble or parquet. Some rooms offer a balcony with full views of the canal. A sweet and savoury buffet is served daily for breakfast, and includes pastries. This historic building, with no lift, is just behind the Fenice Theatre, and 400 metres from Saint Mark's Square. A gondola pier and the Santa Maria del Giglio stop of water-bus line 1 are right outside the main door.

We let them know we were gluten free, and they had a special basket of breakfast goodies for us every day, in addition to their excellent selection of meats and cheeses. We also liked that we drop off the key whenever we leave the hotel. Their 24 hour staff at the front desk will give it back when we get back, which means we don't need to carry it around with us. The location was awesome. Very close to San Marco square, beautiful view out to the Grand Canal from the room where we ate breakfas.
all reviews » Everything was great. Very spacious room and a nice welcome with a bottle of champagne (we were travelling on our honeymoon). We enjoyed the view on a small romantic channel with gondolas passing by (there are some rooms with windows overlooking the Grand Canal). Excellent location, easy to find and get to (next to a water bus stop),and great for sightseeing and shopping (just a short stroll from San Marco with all designer stores on the way). The hotel was located 50 meters from the water taxi station, and was within close walking distance to many main attractions. The room was spacious and quite clean with a jet tub in the bathroom. The view from the top of the building was very romantic and gave you the chance for some terrific arial pictures of the canal. The hotel was lovely & rooms clean. The staff where very pleasant and greated each morning with a smile & hello at breakfast. The food was lovely and the views from the hotel balcony amazing. I really enjoyed my stay here and would happily return. The staff Gianpietro, Moktar, Massimo all very courteous. A very good hotel easily accesible from the Giglio and Good ambience. Breakfast was very well good , Rooms very new and good. Will definitely stay again, thanks for the wonderful stay... Locanda De La Spada had friendly staff; good location on Grand Canal, central to St. Mark’s and the water bus line. Moktar was especially attentive and kind during breakfast service and the views spectacular. We would definitely return. Beautiful marble building, clean and modern hotel rooms, big comfortable bed, delicious buffet breakfast, quiet and small but very pleasant, helpful and friendly staff. It is close to everything important, i.e: food, transportation, shopping. nice place to go but check if your not gonna find insect or scorpion.., close to everything..beside that it was perfect... The modern design of the room the fact you had free fresh fruit when you wanted it the range of breakfast available. All of the rooms are located on the 3 rd floor and unfortunately there are no lifts. So after a long day of exploring the streets of Venice it can be quite trying to get back to your room. Wifi in the room was very weak and worked well in the common area only.. Warning: Stairs are doable, but need to be aware it is a climb. Hotel initially quite difficult to find as the entrance is down a poorly sign posted narrow alley. All things was very good. find a scorpion in my room..but the staff told us that is no scorpion in Venise maybe the traveller before bring it..means the person who did the cleanning didn't see it..no ascensor...only stair...because of that scorpion I was unable to sleep the day after ....it an inconvenient...and the didn't offer anything in exchange of that problem...I decide to pay 500$ canadiens per night because I didn't want to have scorpions or nothing else in the room.. that there was no variety in the hot food for breakfast only scrambeled egg and hot dog style sausage. We experienced a problem with the heater fan that was noisy even after switching off. They change the room but the problem was still there in the second room. We didn't appreciate the reaction of one of the staff member not so polite (all the others were excellent I have to say). 88 steps to room were difficult after a long day of walking. Bed very hard. Many steps to get up to all rooms, on for us but would not be suitable for all. nothing. Nothing negative. Venice could do with a clean up. Less litter would be better and less of the aggresive street sellers. Also, who goes to Venice to buy a football shirt?. It was not easy to find the hotel location. Mosquitoes. Being obsessed about sleeping with the windows open, I shouldn't have unplugged the mosquito repellent. It's there for a reason!. needs elevator. Many stairs to get to the room with no lift. The main person at the front desk was quite rude. I didn't really like his attitude. He wasn't very hospitable and seemed very annoyed by my very basic questions. No elevator I paid too much for what I got, even more expensive than a 5 stars hotel in the same location. staff - impolite. wifi - poor reception & too limited supply. They charge a 4/5* rate but provide a 2/3 (max)* service. We really felt cheated! The room itself was not attractive at all, with very simple furniture, no feeling at all of being in Venice - when paying over 600€ a night, you should be entitled to expect a minimal level of luxury!. For a 4 star the hotel was basic has one English Channel which was bbc world news breakfast was served in which can only be described as a room with a breakfast table in it so you have to eat it in the corridor after leaving the hotel me and my partner are since now covered in bites from head to toe. Nice hotel but deffinately not worth the money. The man on the front desk was rude with us. Rude staff Lack of facilities for a 4 star hotel No lift No room service. No elevators The concierce not very nice No Iron in the rooms No air condition. One of the rooms they booked us in had not been cleaned. The bed with durty linnens! You have to walk many stais, but no elevator! they don't inform on the webside. During the night there was a tremendous noice of air, circulating under the door that kept me awake.
