Everything. I would advise anyone staying in Florence to stay at Hotel Santa Maria Novella. It was within walking distance to the train station. A beautiful hotel. The best breakfast we had in Italy by far. They upgraded our room to the penthouse suite with a terrace overlooking Florence. A circular window over the bed was positioned so the Duomo was in view in the window. Would stay again.

The rooms and common areas areelegantly appointed. Complimentary breakfast includes both hot and colditems in a beautiful dining room. Great staff arranged in advance formuseum tickets and recommended restaurants.I thought it was beautiful - the attention to every small detail was exquisite including the wrapper on the toilet paper roll ! The breakfast was wonderful too. I am an interior designer so I notice everything. The hotel is excellent and of a high standard, whilst the staff are welcoming and friendly. The room was superb. The hotel is in a good location for the Florence sights.This hotel was rated a 3. Our rooms were more a 4 rating. Absoutely beautiful and very grand room. Excellent location and staff. The Hotel is ideally situated close to the bus and rail stations and about 10 minutes walk from the main tourist attractions - Duomo,Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio etc This is a Boutique type hotel providing luxury comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished- we were especially impressed with the "Napoleon" themed Lounge and the art collection in public areas. Quiet and large with good bath facilities. Our trip was split, so we had a different room on our 2nd stay. It was smaller, more noisy, and the tub/shower combination was too small. Within walking distance of teh Florence train station and many tourist attractions. It felt like a 4 Star Hotel in terms of services and extras. The breakfast was excellent.Quiet location yet major tourist points are still easily accessible. The bar was a bit expensive.For some strange reason, although breakfast ran until 10.30am the kitchen staff never seemed to replenish the hot food after 9.30am which was annoying as the food was first class. Perfect. Costly, but sumptuous.The location was a bit noisey due to construction and traffic. The sign is quite small so hotel can easily be missed especially with the construction next door.Restaurants recommended by the hotel were expensive and a little disappointing. The Piazza where the hotel was located is under an enormous construction project. I would have liked to have known that in advance. Just the sight of piazza Santa Maria Novella which has been under construction for so long. Some staff were not helpful - we asked if tickets could be booked for the Ufizzi and were told it was fully booked for 4 days . We found this was not the case and booked them ourselves for the following day.There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom to use for a curling iron. Sometimes noisey on the square but it is a tourist city.The only draw backs were that this was a handicapped room but the mirror was way to high for someone seated in a wheelchair. Also, there was construction going on right next to the hotel so at times it was a little noisy. See comment on 2nd room.It was a little difficult to find as it is tucked away on the corner of a Piazza that was undergoing some construction and not easily visible. Although we knew we were close we took some time to locate it. Go straight out of the station through the main doors and not to the left- we were confused as our directions to get there had indicated we should go left when leaving the station. Room was hot upon re-entry as many European hotels now automate climate control with room key. Upon departure, cooling system shuts off.Some lights in the room were not working, but that was not essential. The construction taking place at Piazza Santa Maria Novella... dust level very high and allergies kicked in.Hotel corridors poor ventilation with bad smell. We were under the impression it had a guests' restaurant, however the restaurant was for functions only.Room was dark. Yes, There was a lot of building work around the Hotel and our view fromour room window was Scaffolding from another Hotel. We could not openthe window due to noise at times.too noisy. you can hear the cars from outside. and the noises of your neighbour.
