The excellent attitude of the owner. It was our first night's stay inIreland and he was extremely informative. have stayed their a few times now and both service and confort improves every time!. Staff and managenent were very helpful and friendly. Friendly proprietor and staff and excellent food.Value for money and homely atmosphere. Lovely staff and helpfull.

There was only a shower in my room and no bath. There are no elevators (however a kind member of staff helped me with my bags).Full menu in restaurant was not available as it was Sunday. Advanced notice of this fact (as it apparently is a regular occurence) would have been appreciated. Also, if the hotel is basically empty, it does not make much sense to give out the one room that does not have a working Internet connection. Bathroom extractor fan went on with the light,and other occupants left them on all night which was very noisy and very hard to sleep with them. Perhaps they could be on timers after midnight..no lift. Tea making facilities in the rooms are not available.not great value for money in kilkenny hotels. thought 140euro was alot for the distance it was from city centre..lots of flys in room.there did'nt appear to be enough staff but it did'nt cause us much inconvience. I was disappointed that your website indicated that the hotel offered full bar services. Bar was closed at 10.30pm so I had to walk 15 mins to nearest bar for a drink. Had I known that your bar was somewhat "casual" on opening times, I would have chosen another hotel.This is not a complaint, simply an observation for your consideration. I made similar comments on the night.Hotel has no restaurant, bar food is only available until 8pm. Breakfast however is available. Room was very basic. The rooms were clean but basic. menu very limited. nobody at the reception when we arrived and gone... The smell of cooking grease in the foyer. No tea/coffee services provided in rooms. Remote Control only worked on some functions, Asked to pay upfront on arrival. No teaandcoffee facilities in the bedroom. Poor food at the bar. breakfast was poor. The fact we were required to pay upfront for the rooms the minute we arrived even though they had my card details via your website - not a welcoming/trusting attititude to take!. no soap, shampoo, tea making facilities. very basic. Its a distance from the centre of town, as it was raining we drove to town. also the reception was un attended at night. I found this unbelievable.No restaurant in the hotel, exceptionally difficult to find hotel (albeit perhaps not hotels fault - poor signage in Kilkenny in general), requested payment in full upfront, and demanded key upon departure (gruff man behind reception shouted one word - key). It had a musty smell. The bathroom was clean on the surface but a littlegrimey in spots. The reception and bar area is dark and not veryinviting. Breakfast was poor - 'fruit salad out of a tin' kind of place!No elevators so you have to carry luggae up 4 sets of stairs. Price ishigh considering the standard and that it is 5 minutes outside ofKilkenny City. Price does not reflect the standard.Asking to pay up front and no internet access in the rooms eventhough it was advertised in the hotel booklet!!. I had to wait twenty minutes for someone to come and check me in due to the lack of staff. Only one on at this time and he was serving in the dining room. The room was very basic with a wooden floor which made you feel like an Elephant as you moved over the floor.The staff were rude and made us pay on arrival. There was an awful odour upon entrance and the price was outrageous considering the run down nature of the hotel and lack of facilities. We only stayed because everywhere else was booked out. Much nicer hotels were priced similarily but were not available when we tried to book. The room we were given when we Booked in first was Dirty,horrible smellof smoke ,and the Shower Tiles were not clean,we were moved to anotherroom.No tea making facilities in the Room.No Top sheet on the Bed,Twosingle Duves on a Double Bed!!!!!!!!!.No products in the Bathroom,except a old bar of soap.I would not grade Kilkeny House as a hotel, it was a gloified BandB, in fact any BandB's that I've stayed in out of necessity, were far superior to Kilkenny House ******. my shower, my room, my breakfast, the attitude of the staff barely being in the door and being asked for money a disgrace if i wasent in such a mood the day i left i would have let people know.
