Staff were most friendly from trying to locate a phone charger for me tobringing ice to the room. It was a great stay and on the merit of thestaff alone I would recommend, the hotel is lovely too. The room was lovely, particularly liked the free wi fi in the lobby. It was essential as I was working during trip. Staff very friendly and helpful and very hard working.The food and customer service was excellent. Rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Couldn't have asked for anything else.

Very large hotel but efficiently run. Had to use hotel fridge for storage of baby food. There was never any hassle. John the Head Porter was extremely helpful and knowledgable about the area.Evertything was very good. Food excellent. room and bed comfortable. Leisure facilites. The swimming pool. We found the hotel staff very friendly and helpfull and the location good will we stay again in the future. Comfortable and very quiet. No id reccomend to anyone. The drunken guests who woke us up three times in one night returning to their rooms, running down the corridor (we were in room 2072), shouting and singing. We complained when we checked out but the staff just seemed embarassed and looked at each other. Maybe this is common at this hotel.The appearance of the outside of the hotel in the non front areas was not appealing, they really need to keep the building looking nicer on the outside. The floors in the hallway were extremely squeeky. The coffee at Breakfast could have been warmer, there were two glass containers on a warm stand. out of which we filled out pot of coffee, maybe a boiler might be better, and in the bedroom there just two little saches of coffee maybe that could be improved on. Bar a bit small when busy. The food in the bar was mixed. Some very good, one dish not great. On a very minor note, the hotel did not have Setanta Sports on the TV. I(It was a Magner's League weekend.) Still very good value.The music in the bar wasnt very good. no everything was lovely. bar food was was quite cold and tasteless not a great choice of desserts in restaurant on set menu. Breakfast could be better - fry just warm. the bar food was poor, especially the vegetarian option which was tasteless, it would have helped if when checking in the receptionist hand mentioned you need to make a reservation for the restaurant. dont like being negative but here goes....one of the bar staff had personal hygiene problems. The breakfast, while certainly adequate in quantity, was surprisingly tasteless. I suspect the potatoes were frozen, which is a 'crime' for Ireland, and an Irish breakfast without potato bread and soda bread is not an Irish breakfast. hotel room was quite a long distance from both the main reception area and entrance/exit to carpark, also a long walk to get to the swimming pool and gym. The room was way too warm with no obvious way of turning down the heat. Terrible Pillows. I was very happy with with room and dining.

Renovated in June 2006, Leisure Club offers a range of facilities that are second to none in the local area. Facilities include a 20 metre indoor heated swimming pool, with the latest water filtering technology, toddlers and childrens pool, sauna and steam room. Also, within the Leisure Club we offer a fully equipped gym with top of the range Cybex equipment, aerobics studio and large comfortable changing rooms. Conference Facilities: Carlton Hotel offers nine purpose built conference rooms, equipped with Hi-Speed 4mb broadband internet access, LCD and drop down screen and air-conditioning, with capacities ranging from 120 delegates to smaller rooms suitable for a boardroom or interview style meeting. The meeting rooms are attended by our dedicated conference team who will ensure that your meeting is a complete success. Children's Activities: Our Children's Activity Programme, "Friendly Fellows" which runs at weekends and during school holidays, provides fun-filled activities for children over 3years, the Teen Club for older children includes activities such as air hockey, pool and karaoke. So while the children are having fun, the adults can enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the hotel and its facilities. During school holidays and weekends there is a childrens club ran in the hotel. There is a local charge per child per night and is to be paid at check out.

Travelling information

The drive from Dublin to Galway is 200 km and will take approximately 2.5 hours. From Dublin take the N4 to the West and Galway. The N4 will become the M4 which you will follow. Leave the M4 at Junction 11 which to join the M6 signposted for Galway. AT the end of the M6 bear left and follow the signs to Docks and Galway City East. Once on the Dual Carriageway you need to move to the right hand lane. At the “Martin” roundabout you need to take the third exit again signposted Docks and Merlin Park. Go straight through 3 sets of lights (past Galway Crystal) and at the Skerritt take go straight (2nd exit past GMIT), then straight through two sets of lights and Carlton Hotel Galway City is located on your right.
