When we first noticed the hotel flags we were impressed by the location. The hotel is so close to the hub and centre of Brussels, we were able to walk everywhere. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an incredibly friendly and welcoming recepitionist, she was full of smiles. The hotel was, in our view, was very luxurious. The gym and sauna were an added bonus and were free. The buffet breakfast included in the price was delicious, with a wide selection. The price of the accomodation was a bargain f.
all reviews » I've been in this hotel many times for business trip. The position of the hotel is perfect. Close to the city center (grand place etc.) and close to central station. Very very close to "La morte subite" serving the famous flavored beer and to the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert (glamour shopping arcade). Free wifi, clean room (I don't like the choice of the colors of some rooms... too brown, but it is a very personal judgment). Great breakfast! Many good options (and I'm Italian and picky!). Good breakfast - cold meats/cheeses/fruit/smoked mackerel. Cereal/breads/pastries/dried fruit. Some cooked food - scrambled eggs, bacon, baked beans, mushrooms, boiled eggs. Excellent location near to grand place/gare centrale and the metro that goes direct to midi. Fridge and hairdyer in room, good shower. Very friendly staff. Nice location near Grand Place and not as expensive as the hotels right by there. Turn right out of the hotel, down a few metres and you are left into the wonderful old shopping arcade. (Nice chocolate shops and other goodies!). Half way along the arcade and you can turn right to lots of tourist restaurants. Nice staff too. The breakfast is great, there is ample choice and it is well organized. The position is also perfect: very close to Grand Place and the central train station (and of course the metro!). Free internet available. The personnel is kind and welcoming. The room is with unexpected encounters, clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic, very near to the Grand Place and resturants, not far from the metro and buses run outside the hotel. It doesnt feel like a 4 star hotel, but for the price its good value. Nice breakfast and having Leffe Brune on draught in the bar is good, hic. The staff were friendly and were multi-lingual. Breakfast was excellent with plenty choice and time was allowed even when a little late. Baggage facility was convenient when we had checked out and had to await our taxi. The location allowed for a quiet night's sleep. There was an empty fridge in my room so I could fill it with the things I wanted.........like chocolates and chocolate milk and mineral water...........not alcohol, which I don't want. The spa was included in the room rate.........usually it is extra. Friendly reception staff, upon arrival, facilitating early access to our room. Hotel within walking distance to many city attractions, including the main square, where there were ample eating places. Also this hotel is in a small area so my room only overlooked the foyer, no natural daylight. You cannot keep the curtains open all the time as the lifts go right by. So it is a bit gloomy. Reflected in the price I guess...not sure if they have any rooms open to natural daylight. You could ask I guess. I can maybe suggest to improve colors in the room, substituting the brown with more bright colors. Internet connection was extremely poor during our stay. Maybe it was a problem of those 5 days we stayed there, anyway..And it's not convenient to take each day at the reception a new login / password for free Internet. My room (514) was next to the staff lift which was in use at 2am on Sunday night. I complained at recepetion and they said its only once a week. Other days it seems to be used from around 6:30am. The water wasnt hot in the afternoons, it was though they switched the heating off during the day. The positives far outweigh the negatives though. The bar area and foyer was confined and did not lend itself to late night drink or chat. The double glazed windows did not block out the street noise below, during the night. Rooms particularly bathroom a bit small (we had one of the bigger rooms), aircon struggled with heatwave during our stay (hottest days in Belgium in 10 years). Passageway carpets in need of cleaning or replacement. The breakfast was a bit untasty. Room was quite small with not much light. I realised in the morning my shower soap Was actually empty, and being Eco there were small soaps anywhere. The quilt on top of the duvet was dirty. There was smoke smell when entering the room. Nothing. Could not check in untill after 4pm. However this is a bag room. Kitchen is maybe not the best for dinner; but there are many options around, if needed. The air conditioning was not working while we were there. We had 2 rooms, and neither room had working air conditioning. After 2 nights, the air was fixed in one room. After 3 nights of no ac, we were switched to a different room for our last night. Both rooms then had working ac. I know maintenance was working on the ac during the day, but each night we were told it was fixed, when it was not. The place looks a little bit outdated although the rooms are fine. The only window in my room faces the bar so it's a bit dim, though most of the time I was outside so it didn't matter much. Room decor, bathroom tiles. There is nothing to dislike about this hotel. This particular time, room was small and couldn't say i got value for money unlike other times. Gym, although clean, could benefit from having more than just one bench and a few loose hand weights. Some cups for the water machine would have been helpful. facilities were just a bit worn down - carpet hadn't been replaced maybe ever. I arrived at 12 & my room wasn't ready, which is OK as I was early. I went back at 6 pm and was given a room, but when I went in I found that the bed had not been made up and there was a towel inside the toilet bowl! I was given another room immediately, but it was a bit annoying! The wifi was also quite slow. Nothing. Room was a bit small. It's hard to arrive by car because the hotel is on a one way street. We found parking about 5 minutes from Scandic called the "Grande Market". It took some time to have hot water in bathroom when taking shower. All details were OK. dark rooms and lobby. kind of expensive... Scandic do things their own way and try to be economical and environmentally conscious. You might find this hotel a bit more basic than expected for a 4*. No negatives. Small room. The ventilation system was working permanently and made much noise (5th floor room). Nothing really. Street noise.
