My fiancé and I recently celebrated our honeymoon at the Shangri La. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We received an early check in which was greatly appreciated after 24hours travelling from the UK. We also received a complimentary bottle of champagne & chocolates to celebrate our special occasion. The door men were very helpful: recommending restaurants, travel advice etc. Their efforts did not go unnoticed. The pool/gym facilities were a lovely treat. Perfect location in .
all reviews » The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The concierge restaurant recommendations were perfect for what we requested, which we did three times. The hotel is perfectly situated in Sydney for people wanting to visit the local historical areas as well as the most well known sights like the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, all within close walking distance from the hotel. The bar on the 36th floor has an almost 360 degree view of the entire city - probably superior to the view one could hav. I love our stay it's exceptionally clean except for 1 thing...i was trying to ring the customer service line several times (from the moment i've stepped to my room 2pm to 4pm) - the line was engaged then i decided to go down i meet one of the staff and advised to dial 9 but guess what no one is answering so I decided to go down again. The reception told me he will report and ask someone to check no one turn up. Location perfect. Altitude bar/restaurant on the 36th floor has spectacular view, there was no window seat when we arrived for a drink and the waitress said she would let us know when one was available and true to her word she moved us twice and we ended up right at the window with a spectacular view of harbour. Staff were excellent and more than willing to help. Rooms were beautiful and immaculately clean. When we first arrived we felt like we were special. When booking a room above the 30th Floor I was delighted to learn we were entitles to Horizon Club benefits. Private Check-In and Check-Out (No Waiting) and the evening complimentary drinks was something I've never experienced in any other hotel. The views from our room and the restaurant were exceptional. You have to see them to appreciate them. Comments submitted after our first stay at Shangri-La when we arrived in Sydney the first time. This place was great, perfectly located, great views from our room, short walking distance to The Rocks, Circular Quay, Harbour Bridge and the Opera House as well as ferries to take you almost anywhere you want to go. The next time we travel to Sydney we already know this is the hotel we will book. I liked the hotel and the interior decor of its lobby and my room. I stayed in the executive room with Opera house view and loved the view from my room. The facilities in the room, hotel, and customer service from the staff were great too. The location is the best in Sydney as far as I am concerned.I simply loved staying in this hotel overall. The view was amazing. We move our bed to look out at the bridge and opera house, all night. The bathroom was excellent. Everything was clean and had luxurious fixtures and fittings. For a couple that has lived in Sydney, this room was great value for money but have us a view we'd never seen. the bed comfort. I attended a wedding at the hotel and was accommodated with an early check-in. amenities including a hair tie!. Room service- food quality and presentation was excellent and service was amazing excellent cocktails in the Lobby Lounge Altitude bar was amazing!. The View from our room was amazing; we stayed here to celebrate our anniversary and had a lovely surprise from the hotel. They gave us a bottle of Sparkling wine and Chocolates. Breakfast in the morning was great. Every staff member that we spoke to was really nice. staff were amazing very welcoming position was great-lovely and clean felt at ease as soon as we walked in door- after two nights my husband had a sore back as the bed was sagging- when we complained the situation was fixed with no issues fantastic. Great bar on 36th floor with a view across the bridge (and I mean across the bridge as the bar is at the height of the top of the bridge) and that view I've not seen before. Everything. The room was perfect, with a view of the Opera House. The bathroom was superb and although it is a 5-star hotel, the prices for food in the lounge area are very competitive. The swimming pool was also lovely. The rooms are modern & larger than other 5 star hotels in the vicinity in the same price range. Good size bathroom & every room has a view from my experiences. You really don't need to leave the hotel. Simply the most amazing panoramc views of Sydney from your own bedroom. Outstanding. Lovely room and wonderfully comfortable bed. Good service. The best porter service I have experienced. Room ready early. The extra's I asked for Champayne and Chocolate Strawberries were amazing and were in the room when we arrived. We were upgraded and had the most amazing views from the 22nd Floor. Will definately be back. The staff were very friendly! We got upgraded to an incredible grand harbour view room and when the reception staff found out it was my husbands birthday they sent up a slice of indulgent chocolate cake. Everything was amazing. I thought the resturant was alittle too dark, maybe a suggestion would be to supply little book lights on top of menu as you could hardly see it. To access on foot from George St, the number of steps and street steepness requires you to be fit. Nothing - everything was perfect. No dislikes. Pool should be open later than 9pm. Had a leak in the bathroom ceiling which was not so pleasant, but was dealt with fully and immediately (impressive). Other than a few minor human errors, such as our phone lines playing up and being mixed with another rooms which caused our calls to reception to be cut off and our late check out request didn't go through and we had to go down to the reception in our bath robes to fix it up so we could go back up to our room. Breakfast at $42 per person, which we didn't take. Cheaper and better to have breakfast downtown. On one day room was not made up by 4 pm, had to remind Room service. My flight from LA to Sydney was delayed a day by a mechanical problem. Even though I called promptly to alert them I would be a day late they were unapologetic about charging me for the day I was not there. The weather!. The bar on the top floor was not easy to access over weekend, and space bewteen bar and viewing windows is too narrow. Maybe the hill getting to the hotel. Nothing to dislike. the only down side was that the bed and pillows were too soft for my wife and myself, woke up with sore backs. Some of furniture looking a bit tired. Forgot to clean our room needed to contact someone,then were interrupted twice in sucession whilst resting in room to check &c if it had been done!Young girl who allowed entry to altitude bar wasn't welcoming or particularly helpful. Warm bath water - even though the engineer said it was 'hot' enough on putting his hand under it. Left contact lens (in clear case) in bathrooom - when rang hotel few days later they did not reply. Takeaway milk expresso coffee in G/F cafe not tasty enough/bit weak. We were a little disappointed with the Blue Bar upstairs, it was very hot and stuffy, so we didn't stay in there for long. The Food that we ordered to our room as late night service, wasn't what we expected after being so spoilt in every other factor. We just a little disappointed with these two things, but everything else was definitely A1++++++++++. My bags took a while to come up from reception and I was told that they could not be located!. Communication issues with some staff whose second language was clearly English. Asked at the front customer service desk to have a bulb replaced. Took 3 days. I had given up. Maintenance to the pool area was surprisingly poor in a hotel of this ilk and expense. Cant think of anything. Faultless. our luggage was damaged when someone elses luggage had an opened bottle of wine in their's & it leaked onto our bags. BUT the young man on the front desk contacted us straight away to tell us about the problem & the manager at the time was more than helpful & apologetic & offered to have the clothes washed or drycleaned we will definately stay here again ;)). The bar area is very popular and it's extremely hard to get a seat or table. It would be great if it was made bigger. Minibar was very expensive and the Altitude restaurant was closed on the Sunday we were there. Breakfast was not included in the rate. Nothing!.
