Everything was excellent! I have stayed in hotels price much higher that were no where near as nice as this one! It wasn't a luxury hotel of course, but as a home base for a city trip I couldn't ask for more. The staff was awesome, they held our bags for us on the last day in town, which was an incredible favor to us. I will be reccomending to friends and staying again myself. Thanks. The staff was very good, the location was great, the room was very basic but clean. This is a funky old art deco style motor hotel that is maintained to accommodate budget travelers-don't expect valet parking, or luxury amenities, but do enjoy the no frills quick check in, working ice/pop machines, in room coffee, and cable tv. And they have smoking rooms if you are so inclined.
all reviews » The location was perfect. Great restaurants close by.. A walk to the marina and Golden Gate Bridge as well as many other sites like coit tower and fishermans wharf. Beautiful view to the west from our room (302). lots of room in the family suite, two double beds plus sofa bed, a cheaper option in a neighbourhood that seems safe and is close to major attractions. We used to live in The City so we had an idea of where we wanted to be. It was inexpensive and centrally located for the Marina District. I liked how spacious the rooms were for my big family. We stayed in the family suite which had two beds and a pull out couch. I liked how we all fit into one room. Our family if 5, causes us to get 2 rooms at times. I liked the options. It was quite spacious for a family of 5. Kept clean & tidy. Very friendly staff. Close to all amenities. Good location, convenient to the city and a lot of eateries. Safe location, staff very friendly and helpful. Free parking is a huge plus. Breakfast not great, but decent coffee and cold cereal to start the day. Location 40minute walk to Fisherman's Warf. Very dirty rooms and poor breakfast!. nearest to the tourist destination/. I have no complaints!!!. Nothing. The owner and staff do a great job and provide a great value for on the cheap travelers. The biggest complaint we had was the wifi... We kept getting kicked off the wifi and when connected it ran super slow like a snail. I also thought the morning breakfast thing was a joke. I know you get what you pay for but don't advertise free breakfast and then only have packaged tiny pastries with one per person. LoL. Funky toilet flush system----worked okay, but had a 5-second delay after pressing handle. Our room key was given to another group by mistake--- glad we weren't undressed when they opened the door. Easily solved though. I didn't like the towels, they had stains and were very old. The carpet had a bad smell, it definitely needed a wash. The parking was limited. But it made up for in taking the bus. We still managed to get around without losing our parking spot. Pillows were ordinary!! Please invest in some new ones. Housekeeping didn't actually do very much but not a major issue. It was a little bit cold in our room. The rooms were a little small. The free breakfast. A box of danish. Dont offer that maybe a discount at IHOP next will work better. the lift is very old. 3 flites of stairs w/elevator @ opposite end. Slow wi fi, poor breakfast. Staying experience would be improved with the following: 1) Kettle in the room for hot water 2) Toilet is cold (winter) as there is a sunroof 3) Pillows are flat and too soft 4) Freezer not cold enough causing the ice-cream to melt 5) Internet is slow 6) Adjorning bathroom should have individual locks on the door so that the toliet can be used by others and there is a need to install towel bar in the bathroom. The room was quite dark and cleanliness of bathroom was poor . The TV was not working properly, though a new system was to be put in. Leaky sink faucet. Sofa bed mattress was old and did not appear sanitary. Tv remote was held together with tape! Parking was extremely limited and the parking spaces were made for mini cars!. The TV and/or remote didn't work. The main light switch didn't work. Only one sachet of coffee for 2 people. The toilet seat was broken. Bedside lamps were hanging at an angle. Some of the other guests at the Surf Motel were extremely loud and had a party in the parking lot all night. It was miserable. We will never stay at the Surf ever again. Lombard street is a very busy road. Thus noisy. Not a lot of choice for breakfast especially at the price we paid. Curtains and bedding had seen better days. Beds were as hard as sleeping on the floor -and very squeaky with every move. Tv was turned off at the wall with no directions how to turn it on. Called to the desk four times and no one answered. Shower curtain was moldy. Noisy street traffic all night long. 2 towels for 3 guests,bathroom door would not shut,wi fi a bit dodgy. Big gap in door outside. Small things requiring maintence - function of the had basin & shower mixer taps, hot when on cold, then hot when on cold, hand basin plug operation. Hand rails & bath drain control loose. Poor lighting above the desk etc. Elevator didn't work and , the although it said breakfast was included, it was over at 9 AM. No sign to indicate that. Even in our non-smoke room there was some noticiable smell that you eventually used to. Noise No fridge in room but ice available. The bed was like sleeping on a boxspring and pillows were paper thin and one each. Room had only coffee maker in it. No fridge/minibar or microwave. Breakfast place had only one big table with 10 seats. You have to wait in the line for others to finish and then sit face to face next to strangers. Bit uncomfortable and gives a feeling of a cheap hostel. Wifi was very very slow in our room. Had to go closer to reception few times just to get google few things. Very expensive for what you get. Cold. It was seedy. The people at the front desk were focused on other things as she was teaching another reception person how to use the computer. The parking was poor and the room was not as clean as it should have been. The mattress was old and hard. The towels were about the size of a postage stamp and rough. The internet connection was absolutely useless. The room didn't provide an iron, closet or enough towels. Room space is very limited. It was very dirty. I had to tell myself I was camping. The place was a bit of a dive. Not very clean. Loud. Mediocre staff interactions. The television was not working,the air conditioner did not work properly and the bed should be replaced. The beds were incredibly hard. The bathroom was very sterile feeling and cold, plus the tub was filthy. Also one of our pillows were missing and when I asked for more towels I was questioned as to why I needed more towels. Not worth money room smelled the sheet made us itch the shower was disgusting the lady at the front was an ass the floor had stains and felt dirty the bed was super thin that fact I could feel the springs when I laid down (room 212) This place was terrible I will never go back here sleeping in my car would be more comfortable. i didn't like the bed it looks like their'e not changing the bedding.the ref is not cold even the sink its hard to wash there.and the door its hard to get in to open we need to call staff and they keep us to wait.
