The staff were very welcoming and friendly. As soon as we arrived we were given a complimentary upgrade to a Queen suite. The wifi worked perfectly which pleased my teenage children (and me!). We booked a taxi back to JFK at the front desk and a lovely Lincoln Continental arrived on time and made the journey effortless. There was building work being carried out, which was right outside our window but it was not noisy at all and never disturbed our sleep. The windows kept all the noise out. The .

The staff was MOST helpful (they turned our radiator off when it got warm in the room and also were smiling and accommodating with another small request we had to freeze ice packs in their kitchen freezer). We love this upper west side location, close to really great 'locals feel' shopping- not too touristy. Still some good street vendors nearby. Also an easy walk to the Natural History Museum and Central Park as well. We had a great ti. My room was comfortable and clean and not too small as I had expected. I liked the Bigelow Products, plenty of hot water and a very comfortable bed. The location of the hotel suited my needs, proximity to Central Park, museums & Harlem were important. I found the staff friendly enough, particularly the doorman and porters. Given the little amount of time I spent at the hotel I found it quite suitable. The people at the desk (and everywhere else) were friendly, efficient and very helpful. The lobby was charming and well-kept and the entrance was very pretty. It was beautifully convenient to the subway, buses, shops, everything. My first room was teeny and the bathroom was dark, but when I told them, they moved me immediately to a much much nicer room, at the same price. Friendly reception and good coffee in lobby. Prime location for everything good in Manhattan from Central Park and Museums to food. We had a King Suite which was right right off the lobby but amazingly quiet except for traffic which can't be helped. The bed was amazing and the room was great for the price for NYC. The staff were generally very nice and helpful, however we didn't really appreciate the man at the concierge desk trying to push us into pre-booking a taxi to jfk for $75 or private car for $80 when we realised we could flag down a taxi ourselves for $60. He was also quite rude!. Ongoing renovations at the corner - with street view windows it's getting noisy. The bathroom was small, really small. The shower was fine but it was hard to use the sink. lack of coffee machine in the room. The air conditioner was right next to one of the beds which made it uncomfortable to sleep due to the proximity of the noise and cold air. Construction ongoing gave room a slightly musty smell. Room floor didn't feel well cleaned. Self-parking car at lot down the street was a hassle and expensive. No coffee in the room; breakfast bar in lobby overpriced for the quality. The workout room was missing free weights in the 7.5 lbs, 10 lbs., And 12.5 lbs. Range which I, as a 77-yr-old, use. The Wi-Fi did not work on the 7th floor one morning and one night. The a/c system let the cold into the room at nights. The same with the heat during the last 3 hot nights. The pipes rattled since it's an old hotel. That's the only negative. I went downstairs for coffee early morning. Was the best coffee ever! And the price was right!!!. First floor room had scaffolding outside windows - a pity. It was a bit noisy due to traffic and building work outside. Try to get a room at the top floor. It would be nice to have a free coffee in the morning. Heating is old fashioned and was a little noisy intermittently. Elevator was pretty small. Toilet ran all night. Some noise in the evening/early morning from surrounding rooms. Norhing. Hallways were a little warm. I was there in July so I guess it is to be expected. rather tiny rooms, no breakfast provided. The room was extremely hot unless you put on the air con. The room was very small and cramped, but ok for the money I guess. air-conditioning system was extremely loud, though very effective - though it was so loud it became after a while like a force of nature one got used to! room rather dark. When I woke up I had 2 puncture wounds on my arm that were starting to get infected. We really loved the hotel but several days later that part pf my arm is still not right. I have no idea how this could have happened. O- our room had no top sheets. The mark on the arm looked like a tiny vampire bite. I would like to have a coffee maker in the room and a microwave in the lobby. there is no coffee maker in a room. Check in took a while because the staff at reception couldn't find my reservation. Noisy corridors. The concierge was not knowledgeable. When asked regarding restaurants he had to look on line and when I asked to cancel reservation he made he forgot. Why have one. Front desk knew more. Early morning traffic might wake you up light sleepers but that's expected since you're in the big apple. Rooms are a little on the small side i have to say but nicely setup. Free WiFi sometimes not available due to exceeding the number of users allowed at once. Construction and street noise audible through old, single-paned window (only bothersome on 1 out of 5 nights). Few wall power outlets (just 2 slots open in bathroom, 1 in bedroom). I thought I was going to have robes in the room. Rooms are comfortable but a bit on the small side. Our room (417) had not been "renovated" as claimed. The cabinet was old, and one of the drawers did not close.The room was drafty, because the windows did not shut fully. The price was too high for a "semi-renovated" room. Nothing really except small bathrooms but it is manhattan after all!. Air-conditioning unit was extremently noisy. It's time to change them out. There are many quiet models out there, and more energy efficient than the ones your have.
