Friendly, helpful staff, clean room and facilities, cheap for central location. The friendliness of the staff and their willingness to be helpful. Friendly Staff and centrally located. central, clean and friendly. Friendly staff, breakfast. The use of cybercafe. The hotels central location is fantastic for getting around and about in Manchester. The staff could not have been any better, friendly and helpful. Felt just like staying with friends. As a solo travel feeling comfortable in the environment was/is very important to me and the Merchants staff made my stay very enjoyable. very quiet,no disturbance, yet very convenient to manchester city centre. The place was close to the city centre. Excellent location, helpful staff. Attended conference. The hotel is is central to both the railway stations and there is a tram stop within a very short walking distance, i found the staff to be helpfull and friendly, this is a budget hotel, as long as it has clean bedding and sheets, which this hotel has i am happy, after all it is a room to sleep in, and as i have stayed there 6 times now i am happy with the service they have provided.Friendly staff. Claen and comfortable room. Good value for money. very close to station and helpful staff. very central, 3 minutes from piccadilly station. room was small and a bit cramped ,but had shower,t/v,sink tea coffee making facilities, and a clean and comfortable bed. if your looking for luxury this aint it. but if like me you want to be on top of what manchesters got,and for only £38 the merchants is totally acceptable..p.s the staff i met were lovely and v/helpfull. The hotel has a pleasant new manager with considerable experience in the field, and it looks like he is starting to turn things abound.it was cheap =) and right in the city centre, the stafff were friendly enough and it was clean. Close to station, management went out of way to be helpful.very close to train station.cheap, beds were comfortable. Well located for the city centre and transport links. I thought most of it was ok for the price. Location was very close to train station. location + availability at short notice. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly. Locality of the hotel. It was cheap, basic and based in central Manchester, but that's exactly what I was looking for, so it was fine. The breakfast was included in the price and was very good. There's also an internet cafe right there in the hotel which was very reasonably priced and convenient. It was very well priced and in the centre of manchester. Its not the most attractive hotel in the world, but you cant expect the Ritz for the price that i paid. Clean room, basic but tidy furnishings. Tea and coffee making facilities. Right in the city centre.Central location, cheap price. Booked room with shower which was basic but ok for the price. Friendly and very helpful staff. Clean room.Breakfast, shower and bed. Cheap and cheerful but adequate. Best value I have been able to find for a city centre stopover. Ease of use, simplicity, location (close to city centre and Piccadilly train station), privacy. Close to the venue I was visiting and the station. very basic but comfortable. close to te city centre. middle of city. I felt safe. The Internet cafe was useful and well equipped. The receptionist on duty over the weekend was very pleasant and helpful. Basic accomodation but clean and economical, with good breakfast. convience to location we were at. close to the city centre. Very convenient location. location. the location was good as its in the centre of manchester. There were a lot of stairs which would no be good for anyone with walking problems or a wheelchair user;. Stairs!. There was no light in the bathroom and toilet on the second day of my stay .To have an elevator. I think the hotel was ok, and the staff was great. The issue I experienced was that someone played music very loudly in the middle of the night. I think it was between 03.00 and 04.00 am :). the only down side of this hotel is you have to go up stairs to receiption. noise between 9-11pm!. not really, for the amount I paid I wouldnt have expected anything better. Felt we needed to be careful at night - a bit noisy.not the best room in the world but , shower would not heat up in one of our rooms,. very small bed. It could have done with a lick of paint. The window frame was loose and rattled. But for the price and for how long we actually used the room for you can't go wrong. Dont think its a hotel to stay in for more than 2 nights. My room had old ill fitting sash windows which didn't do a very good job of blocking out the noise of central Manchester. badly fitting lino in bathroom.Website said rate includes a continental breakfast, however at the hotel I was told that the special website rate doesn't include any breakfast. Lack of shower room on floor. Dirty worn looking entrance hall and dining room carpet. Lack of wholemeal toast. Pillow a bit flat.No double glazing or curtains - noisy bedroom. No air conditioning or fan so really hot!. Some part of the hotel could do with a degree of refurbishment. Rooms are a bit shabby and a few broken items in room (eg TV aerial and cupboard door), need updating and checking regularly. Rooms far to small need updating badly and continental breakfast is just not continental. A cooked breakfast would be far more welcome. The rooms are too warm and opening the window is not an option due to street sweepers making alot of noise half the night.the TV did not work in the room and the problem was not rectified, nor did i get a discount. stairs would need lifts. uncomfortable and old matress. loud place next to the hotel. The room was described as "small but modern", but there was nothing particularly modern about its basic fittings (bed and wash basin). No curtains!. not the repairing of the shower...went to a friends hotel to shower. Staff ( one person) very rude and unhelpful. stairs,. this hotel was very basic and wouldnt stay there for more that 1 night.
