The Dunstane Houses
4 West Coates/5 Hampton Terrace (Edinburgh) EH12 5JQ
Offering stylish bedrooms, an on-site restaurant and bar, The Dunstane is set over 2 Victorian townhouses on opposite sides of the road, in Edinburgh's West End. The property is located within 500 metres of Haymarket Railway Station and 15 minutes’ walk from central Edinburgh. The rooms offer free WiFi and free private parking is available.
The Dunstane was built in 1852 and still has many original features, including open fireplaces. The individually decorated bedrooms have Egyptian cotton bed linen, an LCD flat-screen TVs, tea/coffee trays with home-made shortbread and en-suite facilities with free toiletries. The Suites include features such as 4-poster beds, freestanding copper roll-top baths in the bedroom, or sweeping views over the Edinburgh cityscape.
The Ba' Bar & Lounge hosts all-day dining, as well as daily afternoon tea. It serves a great selection of ales from some of Scotland’s micro-brewers and has over 70 malt whiskies. It also has a food menu with local, seasonal Scottish produce.
Edinburgh Airport can be reached after a 15-minute drive. There is also a bus stop opposite the property, which provides bus links to the airport and the city centre.

What people say
We were celedrating our 5th wedding anniversary so had a superior 4 poster bed room which was superb. Everything we wanted and more. We had fresh towels every day even though we didn;t ask for them. The bed was King Size and very comfy. Lovely complimentary bath, hair and body lotions. Good supply of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and shortbread. Breakfast was smashing-everthing you wanted. all reviews »
Pretty close to the heart of Edinburgh but still nice and peaceful. Staff were excellent, very friendly and professional. Hotel itself is clean and well looked after, the furnishings look well kept and loving the Molton Brown goodies in the bathroom! Really good value for money. Everything, it was a lovely hotel that was even nicer than I had hoped. For train travellers I would suggest they get on and off at Haymarket rather than Waverley station if possible as it is so much nearer the hotel. Lovely stay I was sorry it was only for one night. The staff were extremely helpful and allowed us to check in at 12 o clock rather than the three o clock stated on the website. The room was ready at 12 and was extremely clean and tidy. The atmosphere of this hotel is second to none. Personal service and attention is assured. Staff are courteous and attentive. When I am in Edinburgh I always stay here. proximity to the city on foot, the attention of service personnel and the comfort of the hotel is the most outstanding and best value in the hotel. friendly staff ,clean room , good food . public transport from the door was great help . we enjoyed our stay with you very much . beautiful rooms done to a very high standard. Gave a very romantic stay.Friendly staff. Comfortable and elegant. Good food. Local to the centre. The staff were all very nice and friendly.Four poster bed - lovely. Excellent service. The staff were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive, the room was very well furnished and very comfortable. We chose the hotel based on the pictures of the rooms and were not disappointed. Our surroundings are very important to us and this made our honeymoon very special. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Room was great and clean. Restaurant was excellent. Our children colluded with the hotel staff to secretly deliver the lovely surprise of a bottle of champagne to our room on our anniversary.my single room was small but very nice. the staff were lovely. the food i had was excellent. really enjoyed my stay there. A very relaxing stay with excellent staff and service. All staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome. The friendlyness and helpfulness of the staff. All aspects. Superb friendly staff, nice service and good food. Especially Mr. Osman tries his best to make sure everything is in the right order. I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Walking distance to City Centre.Excellent room that was clean and quiet. Courteous, helpful staff. Nice restaurant and bar. Beautiful, historic building. Staff excellent, room very good, walking distance to centre of town. Cosy family hotel with good breakfast. Bus-stop at entrance. Nice, very clean, a little bit expensive though. Reception staff very helpful and always cheery. The classic style and excellent food. The four Post Bed. This hotel is very comfortable and a location is good.- Staff is also extremely friendly. I would gladly recommed this hotel and stay there in a future. The staff is very friendly and courteous while the facilities are comfortable and well cared for. The food was excellent
The staff were friendly and helpful without exception. Very friendly and helpful staff. Decor and comfort very pleasant. excellent staff and the food was first class. The Staff are very pleasent and friendly. Staff were very helpful and polite. Proximity to both Murrayfield and the City Centre, cooked breakfasts, free wifi internet access. Well appointed rooms, friendly efficient staff. The menu selection and quality, was excellent. friendliness of staff, excellent food. The pleasant manner of all the staff. staff excellent, food very good. Staff very friendly. Friendly cosy hotel. good restaurant facilities excellent bar food and first class breakfasts. Staff, close to city centre, restaraunt and bar. convenient situated and at the right price. hotel had a very grand feeling and service was good. Four poster room was really really nice though not the largest. The very friendly, honest and helpful staff. Good location, good food. Parking car was a bit small but we managed to park by the time we had booked in and the owner of the hotel was very helpful and friendly. No I liked everything. To be honest it is further than the ten minutes walk but it is a lovely, easy walk, very easy to find the center, also there is a bus stop right outside and the hotel will happily book a taxi for you.Absolutely nothing beautiful hotel a victorian gem!!!!!!. Breakfast was not hot. Disappointing and at odds with the level of service in all other areas, Was not asked on arrival if I wanted a newspaper and an alarm call. The toileteries were not replaced even when emptied. NO we had a great stay at this hotel. would recommend it to anyone.Overpriced by about 25%. In our room the windows did not open.Hot water too hot - scalding!. The breakfast quality could have been better - it appeared that the bacon etc was deep fried and there was no refil of coffee offered and no staff in dining room to ask. poor design of en suite. rooms too small and dull decor. The draught beer in the bar [however the bottles of Northern Light were very good]. I accidentally left my mobile phone in my room but following my departure it could not be found, which I thought was strange as it did not leave the room during my stay, so I can only presume that the phone was taken from the room during our stay or has not been found due to insufficient cleaning/ tidying. Disappointing. The room was very small. The breakfast no included. Pillows need replacing as they are flat and uncomfortable. The hotel internally required renovation to improve its appearance.Only criticism is that the bathroom was cheap and cramped and not in keeping with room and rest of the hotel. The first night we paid quite a lot for a very small room. Climbing stairs.

This elegant Edinburgh restaurant has original features combined with a genuine Orcadian atmosphere. Although the focus is on seafood, there are many other dishes, including prime Orkney beef, lamb and vegetarian meals.
The Stane Bar serves lighter meals during lunch and evening and has over 90 malt whiskys to choose from.
Hotel information details
Dunstane House was built in 1852 to the design of the famous architect William Playfair, who also designed the nearby Donaldsons' College for the Deaf. Originally Dunstane Villa, as it was first named, was the private residence of the Ross family, famous for their Edinburgh Castle Rock and other confectionery produced in Scotland. The bandstand in Princes Street gardens takes its name from the family. Our Edinburgh Hotel retains its Victorian architectural grandeur which, combined with an intimate country house atmosphere, ensures our guests leave with lasting memories of Dunstane. Crow step gables, archers' windows and ornate open fireplaces give Dunstane the atmosphere of a small castle.
