This was our first trip to Edinburgh. We were hoping to book a hotel closer to the city centre, but as ours was a last minute booking, we were limited for choice. As it turned out, the Britannia was just perfect for us and we're now very pleased we chose it. We live in a very busy area of London, and our first night at the Britannia was the most peaceful and quietest sleep we'd had in years. Just lovely and perfect for us. The hotel itself is ugly, massive, chain-like, but people are okay, walking distance to town attractive, there is a park and a river road, so, I recommend this place!. I liked the friendly staff and the good value for money. My room was comfortable and quiet. It had all the conveniences I need, including a bottle opener attached to the desk!. Every spring in the bed could be felt, worst bed ever, no breakfast with room, since traveling round Europe have found cheaper hotels all with breakfast included, rooms on street very noisy. Only negative was my room was at front of hotel and road noise was very loud, lucky I am a deep sleeper!. we booked a twin room and received confirmation of this but on arrival, we were told that there were only double rooms available. Not very good wifi connection. is basic and a little far from town if you're not happy for 15 min walk. for price, happy with our stay. No complaints. Wi-Fi is bit slow. Radiator was very loud if set up to 3 - 5. 0 - 3 - is very cold for winter. paying for car parking i think it should be free this is one feature that would put a lot of people off. Reading light bulbs out, and when we left a note to have something done, it wasn't fixed. Location quite a distance from city centre and lack of amenities around the hotel Only the basics provided in the room, no towel rack in the bathroom, hair dryer, introduction leaflets to hotel and Edinburgh itself. It was hard to tell if we had arrived at the correct hotel as the signage didn't say the hotels name. Getting a drink at the bar was difficult as the night got later because there was only one staff member who was busy checking people in, so the bar was unattended as patrons waited for a drink. It was my first trip to Uk and I didn't know that euros are not accepted anywhere so at the hotel they didn't accept my money. I was to spent many hours waiting because there is no travel money open. At the end the new manager accept my euros as a deposit and gave me a room. Beside that everything's going find. I would have enjoyed a separate lounge area. Perhaps to the right of reception. Tried a meal. But I know the menu will get better. Needs redecoration but am advised that this will be attended to shortly. needs some t.l.c. rooms could do with a revamp. nothing. Room was very cold at night. I statyed in room 1 and electric heater was not substantial for room. Having to pay for parking. Building looks a touch tired from the outside. not 100% clean some staff disengaged but not all dining area and breakfast menu need sprucing up. Wi fi did not work. Bed too narrow.
