What people say
it was clean, modern, lovely smell. the staff were very very friendly and helpful thank you sam and gang!!! which may a huge difference to our stay. friendly and helpful staff and excellent service. The staff were friendly and helpful, we did have a couple of "hiccups" but these were dealt with quickly and was mainly due to teething problems with the hotel being newly refurbished. all reviews »
The West End Hotel is a fantastic place to stay, I would highly recommend it. for a group of 10 lads, our 10 bed dorm was perfect. The staff member (Iona) was really helpful and attentive. Everything about the hotel feels new and clean. Drinks are reasonable priced (£2.50/pint). £6 in a taxi from Grassmarket or a 20 minute leisurely stroll (10 mins from top of Princess St, 15 mins from Waverley) Will definetely be returning here Year after Year. Friendly and really helpful staff, very clean and fresh decor, great location. Friendly staff, nice clean room. The hotel is lovely, clean, modern and well-equipped. The staff were courteous and very helpful with restaurant recommendations and other information about local services.it was clean. Basically the dorm rooms are the next step up from staying at a backpackers lodge! (cheap and basic). Staff friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfortable. Good location. very clean and stylish facilities, friendly staff, self catering facilities, pleasant bar. Friendly staff who were always eager to help. The hotel was very modern and clean. room was clean and nicely decorated. Hotel has just been refurbished and quality of facilities and decoration is very good.Friendly informative staff. Eye catching modern decor. Staff were helpful and friendly. nice clean new rooms. the australian girl in the bar was nice but all the other staff were rude and lazy. major lack of power points, and its diffieult in a room full of girls and no where to charge phons or hair dryer, straightners in the private comfort of your own room. Unfortunately due to the design with all the rooms being in one area, any noise in the corridors carried easily. Once people were in their rooms the soundproofing was alright.I honestly can't find anything negative to say about this hotel. If you're a group of lads/lasses and don't want to pay loads for accommodation this is perfect. No powerpoints in room.too many stairs!. I marked it down on comfort because according to my digital alarm clock (and my constant shivering), our top-floor room never got above 65 degrees Fahrenheit (on the night of 11 Oct.), which is too cold for comfort. I stayed at four other BandBs and hotels in Scotland during my visit, and the West End was the only one that skimped on heat!. 1/all the stairs.2/dim energy saving lights in the bathroom.3/The fact that we got bunk beds.4/no tea ot coffee facilities in room.5/no tv in room. 6/no electric point in room to charge mobile phone or use hair dryer ect?. didn't get told could order cooked breakfast; didn't get told about self catering facilities, bathroom lighting very very dim, no plug sockets in room, very squeaky bunk beds, shower power very low. The bedsheets were not changed everyday. There where no sockets in the room, the private facilities where verypoorly light, over 85 stairs no lift, no mention of £25pp security depand £5 for a towel. The hotel manager was not very Diverse using theterm "special guests only" made me feel inferior.breakfast was a bit chaotic when hotel was full, only ever saw 1 member of staff at any time. I was the first guest to ever stay at the hotel, there was absolutely no one else around all night, no staff or guests which made the stay somewhat spooky. The hotel was not yet completely finished so it is difficult to judge how nice it will be at the end. What had bbeen done so far seemed to be carried out to a high standard though and the one member of staff I did meet was very nice.lack of power points in hotel room. No hot water available at any time during stay.
Only bread available at breskfast was moulldy.Backpackers in dormitory rooms and in their night clothes at breakfast. Is this a youth hostel or a quality hotel experience. We were on top floor - the stairs are very demanding with no lift option. Hotel has just been refurbished and looks very nice, on the down side the heating was not working properly on the first night and we never had any hot water for a shower.a staff member walked into our room then had cheek to ask what we were doing there, turns out he had wrong room. didnt apologise. at 5am other people were trying to get into our room and the shower was only trickling. our room was at the top of the hotel with no lift so we had to climb 74 stairs, the shower was no more than a trickle, we had 2 sachets of coffee in the room for the whole weekend and on the sunday we were asked to make our own tea and toast for breakfast, the room was small and the two single beds in it were tiny, you could barely turn over without falling out.
