The hotel building was very impressive, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was superb and the food was excellent. Ideally placed for us, as we were attending the March & Rally for Scottish Independence on Calton Hill that weekend. We only stayed two nights and didn't have time to use the spa/pool but it looked really nice. You can do it all from this lovely hotel - see the sights, do the shopping and relax - we'll be back very soon!.
all reviews » Very beautiful hotel in perfect location at the end of Princess Street and not far from Calton Hill. Ideal for romantic walkings around the top Edinburgh attractions. We spent there lovely 3 nights during Easter, everything was good, staff very polite and helpful. Beautiful room with all the expected facilities. I would recommend to everybody. Hotel location terrific...only a short walk from Waverley station, close to buses and only a very short walk to the city centre. Plenty of cafes,bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Rooms are great with a very comfortable bed and a very nice bathroom. This hotel is worth it's 4 star rating. A lovely hotel in a beautiful city. It has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The interior is modern, tasteful and comfortable. The service is attentive and efficient and the breakfasts are excellent. The location is perfect for exploring the city as it is close to the train station and the main shopping/tourist areas, but it is also relatively quiet. This is second time I've stayed there. Excellent location, very helpful staff. We stayed the weekend of a Scotland v Wales rugby match so the hotel was very busy and the bar/reception area was pretty noisy. However even though our room was close to reception it was very quiet, must have good sound-proofing. I was born in Edinburgh and I found staying in the heart of Auld Reekie (the name of the old part of edinburgh city, royal mile) at the apex hotel just delightful if was taking a step back to my childhood and just 2 minutes walk from hotel Carlton Hill with its views of the city was absolutely breathtaking. . Renovated hotel rooms, great for the price. Walking distance from airlink bus stop (bus from airport), waverly train station and old/new towns. Location is great. Overall room service very reasonably priced, but lots of eateries within walking distance... Just ask reception for guidance!. I loved the location. Just 10 minutes walk from Waverley Station. We had a double room with a great view of Arthurs Seat and a churchyard. The bathroom was great with a bath and walk in shower. We got great advice from Linda, the Porter on routes to Arthurs Seat and also where to eat. All staff are extremely pleasant especially the reception staff. The hotel is very pleasantly designed, clean and well equipped. The pool and gym provide superb assets especially when considering the reasonably modest rates. Food is also good at breakfast, in the restaurant and bar. A lovely relaxing place to end the day. Tasty, freshly cooked breakfasts, with excellent coffee. A comfortable bed and thoughtful refreshing cosmetics. A small but perfectly warm swimming pool haven to distress. The location is wonderful, particularly if travelling by train. Have stayed in this hotel several times.Staff are friendly & helpful.Hotel is spotlessly clean,Rooms are a good size.Breakfast is excellent.Would definitely recommend this hotel.Only downside it does not have private parking so an be a bit expensive if you do have a car. The staff was particularly friendly and accommodating. If one goes to the 0 floor, there is an exit which allows easy access to Waverly Station and Starbucks. To get back in the same entrance, one needs only to ring the front desk. Apparently there is closed circuit TV. Room was bright, airy and comfortable. Tea / Coffee tray included crisps & jelly babies as well as nice biscuits. Breakfast was cooked to order. All staff met you with a smile. Less than five minutes walk from Waverley station. Loved this hotel. lovely big room we stayed in, totally spotless, fantastic bathroom, loved all the small extras shower gel etc. have given little ducky to our daughter for her to follow the instructions etc as she kindly helped me book the room in the first place. I very much appreciated receiving an upgrade when we checked in. And having easily accessible outlets throughout the suite was great. Also, the bathroom was huge and lovely. The breakfast buffet was not extensive, but there was a good choice of hot dishes. The rooms were large and comfortable. 1. It is good to me for working by providing free and high speed wifi. 2. I'll request a room on the other side of the hotel next time!. Cold in bathroom, sauna was being closing at 21:30, but should be at 22:00. Breakfast tables are too small - we ended up having to put crockery etc. on the floor. Breakfast very expensive so we went to nearby cafe instead which was excellent.the rooms had no little balcony or terrace just walls to look out onto. maybe living in italy I am spoilt with terraces, umbrellas and surely lots of sunshine which surely entices people to sit outside for a drink on the balcony of their hotel. Breakfast in the hotel was a bit pricey, but many external places to eat. Our room air-con wouldn't work. The room felt a bit chilly but we didn't spend a lot of time in it. We ran out of toilet roll so had to ring reception for more. They took one roll up, which we then again ran out of by the next morning. The pool and steam and sauna aren't together. It was a bit chilly getting from one to the other. My wife and I stay quite a lot during each year. Discounted rates to reflect locality would provide a acknowledgesble gesture. Quite a pricey option. Some late-night noise from the nightclub nearby. Lack of parking facilities. The only thing we did not like was the cost of food in the hotel dining room. 13.50 pounds per person at breakfast is absurd. Swimming Pool a bit small and claustrophobic. Price is a little high, breakfast not included. The bottom piece of the staircase wall comes out pretty far into the walking space, so my boyfriend accidentally ran into it when the window drapes were closed, not realizing there wasn't that much space to get around it. There isn't much direct lighting on mirrors for makeup/etc. And the kitchen seemed a bit cold / lacking in color/character. Restaurant for dinner was not exceptional. We only dined once, but it wasn't strong enough to entice us back for more. It was good, but not great. Folks, this is the only negative. All in all it was terrific!. The bathroom design was not always conducive to good function. No towel rack by the washbasin, the soap fell out of the soap dish in the shower unless you were extremely careful. Lack of variance of food. Bar prices were high. Only comment would be they have a street access to the railway station when we returned we were not asked for our room number or name on the intercom. I would suggest a key code would give more security. Food is overpriced. Towels were changed every day even though they were left on towel rail and did not need to be. Pool is a tad on the small size and gets a bit cramped is there is more than 4 of you. On the other hand if you are up early you get to enjoy it to yourself!. N/A. The only problem we found was that the twin room we booked had a nightclub just over the road which played loud music until 3 a.m. each night of our stay. Our Son was running in the Edinburgh marathon on the Sunday morning and had very little sleep due to the noise. Was told at desk that check out was at 5pm (unheard before), turned out it was 11am, otherwise all perfect. Breakfast buffet with little variety but otherwise can order a la carte. Very expensive drinks prices especially wines, cheaper to drink spirits and cocktails than house wine!! Pity the Spa at this hotel doesn't offer manicure and pedicure treatments in their range. Nothing - it was one of the most perfect hotels I've stayed in. N/A. Heating in our 10th floor room was a bit slow to warm up the room. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. When it was time to leave. Thank you once again for a fantastic time with you. The Heating System Each morning the system is off until 7.00 A.M.It then has to be switched on by the room occupier.It takes at least 20 minutes to start working and another hour to get to temperature.A Hopeless system during one of the coldest weekends on record. The duvet was too small I thought, nearly didn't cover all of me. And I asked for a double bed but received two twins stuck together with two single duvets. the price is bit too high. Very dark - little natural light as room window looked out on to building wall. Very late in day making up room. room rather dark so needed to have lights on all time and view was not great but this was not a big problem as the room was spacious and comfortable. I think breakfast is expensive.My only gripe about our room was that I was unable to get a signal on my phone as we we're in a lower floor room. However free wifi so not a massive complaint!. We are a couple with a baby and we did think it might have been easier for us to have a larger room next time. Ideally would have liked a view, but we only booked a standard double room . Still very good value.
