The Barken Viking is very interesting being a converted old ship, it is right on the riverside and extremely close to central station which makes it quick and easy to get to if travelling in on bus from Landvetter Airport. It is also very quiet which is great for being so close to the city center. The breakfast was great. Overall the hotel was really interesting and worth it if you want to stay somewhere different to usual.
all reviews » The whole idea of a ship-hotel is pretty cool. It was a large and nice old ship turned hotel. Breakfast was included and plentiful. Internet is free and you can hook up any amount of devices, just change the email you register with for each one of them. Location is pretty good, next to the opera house and the ship museum, and at least a good 20 minutes walk from some of the nice streets in the center. The bed was amazingly comfy, the rooms beautiful but still keeping in touch with the feeling of being on a sailing ship. The breakfast was delicious. And the price reasonable considering the amenities being provided and the location right down by the central station and main shopping centre. Super good and different. Really cool staying on a real Windjammer Ship.Cabins were luxurious and cosy and beautifully laid out. It was pretty special to stay there. My son aged 12 loved it and gave it 10 out of 10 as do I. they refunded me the price of the two nights but the whole situation was a total lack of respect for the client, fortunately well managed by the reception staff who fully understood my complaint and was helpfull. Our room was spacious Excellent bathroom Good breakfast and comfortable lounging areas Even though fully booked, the hotel never felt crowded. Situated very well in the city. Almost everything was perfect. Good standard, charming sea-connected details, friendly staff. The breakfast was delicious. I strongly recommend to stay in this hotel. The location on the water right in the centre of town. The traditional wood panelling decor. And just because it features on lots of postcards of Gothenburg!. Well it's on a boat, very nicely made, very cozy rooms, good price, close to "Nordstan" shopping mall and then from there you can walk through all downtown. EXCELLENT value for money and not far from city centre, also GREAT staff.. will try and book there again next time I am in Gothenburg. Location-wise, it's not too nice at night, being at the port and 5 minutes from train station, is full of strange looking people, dealers and bums. Wouldn't want to walk after 9pm. The shower floor wasn't tilted properly and water tended to go everywhere. But that wasn't a problem so long as you didn't leave your clothing lying around. Since June, the owner combines hotel with renting the deck for parties. Impossible to sleep until 0:30 a.m. on Thursday and 2:00 am on Friday... when i complained on Friday they offered to reallocate me in another hotel (Palace) which belongs to the same owner, which has more than 200 negative comments in letsbookhotel.com. The hotel is currently under renovation, noisy and dusty. I refused and asked the complete refund of money. Never again in this hotel!. - No wireless in the room - Almost no power outlets in the room (in useful places) - parking nearby is expensive (150SEK/day), or information about reasonable parking is lacking. The connection to wireless in my room was good. However, the access to the internet itself has been slow sometimes. Breakfast very nice food, BUT VERY poorly refilled. Nobody checks it. When we came there no glasses, no knifes and almost no cold cuts, but after I went literally out to the kitchen to find some staff they started to refill. Nothing to dis-like. It would have been nice to have tea making facilities in the room. Restaurant wasn't open, but there are a number of restaurants nearby. Breakfast was almost in the dark. No one was around to guide me to the right place to sit or where everything was, no none said anything to me in the morning. And when I ran out of hot water for tea, they were not quick to replace it. Deck bar wasn't open yet - will be awesome when it opens!. Nothing to declare. breakfast spread could have been better. Relatively little choice for breakfast, compared to most Swedish hotels. a bit noisy when people are running on the deck where the bar is. simple standard breakfast, but ok. Too warm. A lighter doona or top sheet would be good. Internet in lobby area only, electrical outlets in hard to reach behind the bed. Nothing to add here. staff was unorganized and hurried. Seemed to be bothered by us somewhat. I fell down against the iron stairs, hurt badly, still resting on bed now. Breakfast. End of August there - and temperature outside was rather cold. However, no heating was working on the boat ... but in the end got a extra heater from the staff at reception. No facilities on board, no bar/restaurant. Noisy room with small windows unable to open. Not for people over 6'6" (2 m), small rooms, limited breakfast. No tea and coffee making facilities in room. No safe in room. No wardrobe or drawers for clothes. Our double room provided three hangers and four hooks only. Overpriced. I gave a time when we would arrive and they had given away the room we ordered; it had a double bed. What we were given was two rooms with single berth beds. We sleep together not with a wall between us.... Bar and restaurant were closed the whole time. Access to the deck, which is the best part of being on a boat, was consistently denied. Plus we got told off for bringing our own drinks there. All due to some interim issues following a change of owners, we were told, but not acceptable, especially at the price. Room had nasty uncomfortable beds and no clothes storage facilities, just some wall hooks. No control of heating or ventilation and portholes did not open.
